In March 2018, Glenn Close and Anthony Powell sat
down for a conversation about Powell’s career, their shared
productions, and the creative work that is at the heart of
costume design. Their first film together was Hook (1991),
and their joint credits include Andrew Lloyd Webber’s
Sunset Boulevard (Los Angeles, 1993, and Broadway, 1994)
and the films 101 Dalmatians (1996) and 102 Dalmatians
(2000). Filmed at the Coliseum Theater in London with
the support of the Indiana University Foundation, the
conversation presented here is one shaped by a decade of
sustained collaboration between two artists committed to
their crafts.

I cannot thank you enough for posting this incredible interview. Glenn Close has such incredible respect for the artistry that is costume design. How I wish I could have attended the exhibit; it was my plan to fly to Indiana the week of October 18th for a few days, but I cancelled the trip due to COVID. How I hope there will be another Glenn Close exhibit in the future!!

What a delightful interview, it felt so natural and earnest, you could tell they have a long history, two amazing artists, the best in their respective crafts.

Anthony was my kind friend. In all the time I knew him he was EXACTLY as he comes across here: kind, intesting, interested and witty. We all miss him. Christmas for me always began when I met him in the kitchen of my friends house each year on Chrismats eve, sitting on the same stool. I shall visit this video at Christmas to remember him.

Simon, I can only say that I'm terribly sorry for your loss. It's going on 3 years now but we never truly "get over" losses, we simply push through them. I would say you're very lucky to have known him, but I'm sure you're aware of that. I'm a young actor myself and can only dream to work with someone of such talent and passion for his craft. Best wishes this coming Christmas season.

I remember the story he told about the costume that Kate Capshaw wore as Willie Scott in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). Before the production could shoot the opening dance number, he had to file a claim with the insurance about the dress Kate Capshaw had to wear being torn, due to an elephant eating it. He had to write the company that the reason for the damage was "dress eaten by elephant". One of the funniest behind-the-scenes stories I've ever heard.

Anthony Powell is a popular costume designer for his career to make Cruella De Vil's red and black fur coat for Glenn Close in the Disney film 101 and 102 Dalmatians 👏
