I'd never thought anyone was capable to reach this type of greed. Its almost unreal like something out of a movie.
@danielhobgen61469 жыл бұрын
+Eduardo Blancarte It's not pure greed. It's supply and demand. If you want mega bucks, you have to exploit your fellow man based on wants and needs. That's why a lot of people choose to earn mediocre amounts of money, because they don't have the killer instinct. This guy is prepared for people to pay him money and live but also for people to not pay him and not live. That's economics which is based on the oldest principal of them all; survival of the fittest.

On health insurance, I live in Canada, make about the same amount as Ethan, and about $400-$600 of the taxes I pay every month go towards my healthcare. Sounds like we pay pretty close to the same for healthcare. But here's the kicker - my federal income taxes are actually slightly lower than Ethan's are, and my Provincial income taxes are only slightly higher. So, overall, Ethan is paying roughly the same amount of tax as I am, but then has to pay $750 for health insurance ON TOP OF THAT. It's actually insane. Then take a look at Sweden... I checked a while back to see if my taxes really would be higher in Sweden, since everyone seems to agree that the Swedes are being taxes through the nose. BUT it turns out that if everything about my life was equal, and the only difference was that if I lived in Sweden, I would be paying about the same income tax, and would be paying about $100 more per month in sales taxes (rough estimate). $100/month sounds huge, but I pay a minimum of $600/month to student debt. If I lived in Sweden, University would have been free, so I'd have $500/month more in my pocket. With that kind of money, I could have put a down payment on a house by now. "Higher" taxes are worth it for better universal services, IMO.

@Richard Davis lasik eye surgery? What are you on about? Higher taxes doesn't mean that the government is interfering in everything. Higher taxes means OUR taxes fund things like the hospitals and colleges INSTEAD of relying the government. And "herbal" solutions for cancer have literally never worked, but i guess it is a good way to weed out the stupid people. If taxes funded the hospitals, people would be able to AFFORD treatment for cancer instead of having to be forced to try herbs and religious "healing" as a desperate attempt to save themselves.

Healthcare in UK is so good compared to the USA
@thejollysloth57438 жыл бұрын
+Josh Shearer As someone who lives in the UK, healthcare is getting much worse over here. The thing is it will ALWAYS be better than the USA, because it's FREE for everyone. The last few governments have REALLY made a mess of the NHS, but if there was a government in power that actually cared about it, it would be amazing. We used to have the best healthcare system on the planet, and it was free for everyone, even visitors to the country. It is a shame it's going down the toilet because scumbag governments wont give it enough funding.
@thejollysloth57438 жыл бұрын
flyiNg Yes, and US citizens pay taxes too. What I'm saying is that the US governments could and should use those taxes to benefit the population more effectively. When there are working members of the public unable to afford even basic healthcare then the system is utterly failing, and the population should ask for a more effective system of government for themselves.

+SlothDance Party - In Scotland our NHS is a completely separate thing from the English NHS and it's run better. We're hitting our targets of 94% of people treated in A&E within 4 hours. We're hitting targets on waiting times. I was diagnosed and treated for cancer within the space of 3 months - 5 weeks of daily radiotherapy, 5 sessions of chemo, 3 general anaesthetic procedures, an overnight stay in hospital and multiple MRI & CT scans. Also all of the pain/anti-sickness pills I needed - all at no upfront cost to me. Here we also have enough money to give everyone their prescriptions free (because our government chooses to spend their share of tax money on it, not because we get more money that we should - England could afford it too if the Tories wanted to do it). The English NHS is not in a mess because there's not enough funding, it's because the Tories want to get rid of it and replace it with Private healthcare (which of course is owned by them and their friends). Just look at what they're doing to the Junior doctors.

@alexeysaranchev61185 жыл бұрын
@Richard Davis I don't understand your comment, I was merely pointing out that there's nothing free. No free food, no free clean water, no free air to breath, someone has to pay for it. Not always in straight out taxes, but in limitations to obey, like the industry must not pollute the water and air so we can have them drinkable and breathable. And those limitations come with a cost. Noone has their human rights for free neither, as someone must fight for them, and they either do it themselves, or someone _cough USA cough_ does it for them (usually in exchange for certain black liquids to export for dirt-cheap). So if anyone anywhere tells you about "free X" you can spit in their lying face.

Everyone pays taxes so everyone can get quality health care and if you want to step up your game, you still can get privat health care. Those taxes doesn't affect you that hard as many people think. It's a good system. But i also can see how this system isn't really compatible with the american mindset. I envy your gun rights. Wish germany had it like that. Gun rights are human rights.

Get the hell out of New York! It's the most expensive place to live and it isn't even nice there. Any other state would be cheaper except Certain parts of California. NYC is the worst place to live
@TPQ19808 жыл бұрын
+Jak2bossbf3 A quick Google will tell you that New York City has the highest amount of Jewish people in the US. Just over 2 million people (around 11%) are Jewish in NYC. For contrast, Tel Aviv has 3.2 million Jewish people, which is around 42% of Israel's entire population. Just a guess, but maybe those figures factor into the decision to live there? Like you said, there are much cheaper places to live in the US, so maybe cost of living isn't as big a factor as there being a large Jewish community in NYC? Also, with 750,000 subscribers on one channel and 250,000 on another, living expenses shouldn't be an issue at all if videos are monetised.
@therealteal6208 жыл бұрын
+TPQ1980 One million views is about a thousand dollars, usually a bit less. Subscribers help, but views are where the money comes from. And he gets NO money from people with Adblock, so that subscription with Adblock is nearly worthless to him. He says he's pulling in 50k, which is pretty darn good for a youtuber, but keep in mind, his paychecks are not a steady amount. He's gotta hope people keep watching him and plan his life around the gamble that he can remain relevant.

Your struggles with health insurance are pretty much one of the same major factors that shaped my childhood & early adulthood. I got into a car accident when I was 10 years old, right before Bush became president. There was no Obamacare back then. So from age 10 all the way until I was 22 & got married, no health insurance would cover me because of my pre-existing conditions. It really amazed me how people & even children who are rejected by all health insurance companies really are treated as second class citizens by the doctors, the rest of the medical industry, & by even their own family. And I’m not the only person that I’ve seen this happen to. I’m convinced that there is a serious eugenics agenda by the fact that people are being denied health insurance, & I firmly think it’s one of the leading factors that tears family’s & communities apart. Thanks for the great work bro. Namaste.

yeah man I'm really considering not living in the US anymore. I'm an immigrant already so i don't have any ties. I came here for school and college and now that I'm finishing school, I'm really seeing how difficult it is living here, financially, socially and spiritually. this place is not a first world country. most of the place falls as a developing country, if you ask me. and I'm an artist, so I don't get income on a weekly basis from what I've studied. And that's fine, I work part time in a Cafe. but $8 an hour is NOT enough money to cover rent, utilities, renters insurance, health insurance, HEALTHY food, and art materials. it doesn't cut it. i mean, I COULD move to a $500 a month apartment. but my $900 STUDIO has cockroaches, ants, etc. a $500 apartment in the shady part of town doesn't sound too attractive to me, because I know that it'll be riddled with pests. And I live in Philadelphia, where the prices are not as bad as in other cities. if you want to live in DC, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, well you're gonna have to pay a LOT more. it's absolutely insane. That's why I'm probably going to South America to get a Masters degree and then stay there. and Washington DC is total shit. don't live there.

There was a time when America was actually the most affluent country with the highest standard of living, when working a minimum wage job for 40 hours a week afforded you a solid living with plenty of leftover if you were practical in living expenses.
@kavanduboise85068 жыл бұрын
Well a $15 minimum wage is a joke. It creates inflation and it also kills private small business while allowing public shared corporations to survive through stock exchange. What you have to do is simply be more successful, sorry but being an artist probably wasn't the best financial decision, you should've gotten a career and done art on the side. As far as rent goes I am a real estate investor and those prices seem terrible. $700 studio is way too much especially if it had pest which your landlord is responsible to have taken care of assuming you have a valid legal contract... I have tenants living in a small house i built for $800/month and it has no pests because I am required to take care of them, you need to find a better place to live. Also I'm in Austin TX so it's not like we have cheap living here either.
@ReySyndicate8 жыл бұрын
well, I'm not gonna stop being an artist because the 145th person told me it's "not the best financial decision". Art takes 50 hours a week or you're not going to get much accomplished. you can't just do it on the side and do it seriously. this IS my career. there are other countries where people treat artists better, where people are more interested in spending time in galleries and museums. in Ireland Artists get 50,000 euros exempt from their annual sales taxes because they're seen as a valuable cultural asset. that doesn't happen here or will ever happen here. I'm just going to leave this rotten country.

So I looked into it, and it turns out this pharmaceutical guy isn't bad at all. He only charges the price hike to insurance companies and gives it for free to those without insurance. And he's running a loss too. The money he's making goes into research for a improved drug as the one he's pricehiking hasn't been changed since 1930. You get can get sicker from the drug, but no one cared to improve it as it's not profitable enough. This guy is alone in the struggle. Thanks for bashing him, not.
@christianbannister94698 жыл бұрын
Dude you're high on something. The company that previously owned the patent for that medicine sold it for $13 dollars a pill and still made decent profits. Especially since they cost less than a dollar to make. And "research" is often what they claim the extra money goes to, but a majority of pharmaceutical companies spend their money on marketing and administration, with only 15%-20% of their budget going towards research. Not only that, but the research he claimed it was going towards was a "better" medication for the same ailment, despite the fact that the one he just hiked up works perfectly fine. Now, hes created a dilemma for those needing this medication, either having to spend thousands of dollars on another medication, or kicking the bucket.
@Chiszle8 жыл бұрын
He didn't buy a patent; Daraprim is what he bought, a medicine brand. Patents for medicine's from the early last century don't last this long. The patent is in public domain. He bought a medicine that has passed testing and FDA approval. If you start from scratch on a medicine you need to go through tonnes of test and costs first. Now the guy is redeveloping the drug into something new so he can take the old one of the market and replace it with a new one. No one has missed out on this medicine, not one. You cna even tweet to Martin if you want it for free when your insurer won't cover it. Aids medicine that are being redeveloped are priced near the thousands of dollars. Insurance companies spend tonnes more on marketing useless tablets that all do the same. This guy goesa against the grain and spends proportionately more on research than the other firms. And he's doing it. No one else was out there making the drug better. Don't ask him to cut the price down unless you're aware fo the damage this drug does versus his decision to give patients better options. The old medicine is only a lesser evil to what it cures. These price hikes happen all across markets and industries. From mobile cell phone plans to interests on your savings being cut. And the established industry top will try to squat people like this Martin fellow, which is the only reason he's being covered by media. Some higher-up pushed this into the spotlight and Martin isn't buckling.

'Healthcare isn't free. So naive' funny how they don't know they're getting screwed and it is free because you could legit just reallocate taxes from their military spending to healthcare without having to raise it and give healthcare to everyone but no we're all just stupid naive liberals.

+Yellow Bellied Slider Sure there are high taxes, but it contributes to all our social programs, health care and infrastructure. You can't have those things unless you pay taxes. Personally I'd rather pay them and if anything unfortunate happens I won't have to fork out thousands of dollars in order to get proper treatment

No one gives a fuck about taxes the taxes go to things we all inevitably use regularly, and doctors and nurses are still living good because theyre government paid.

+Yellow Bellied Slider the thing is everybodys equal even u dont money you can still get good healthcare not like on US where if your ring finger and middle finger got cut off u need to choose which one to put back because u cannot afford both of them.

Being British it's seems insane to me that you have to pay for medical care. I know a lot of Americans are against it, but I can't understand what the argument against national healthcare could even be. The taxes we pay for healthcare are relative to income so no one really notices it coming out of their pay packet. You'd have to be very selfish to be against national healthcare I think. If I was rich I really wouldn't mind paying more taxes so others had the opportunity not to die
@lunelilyonrunescape5 жыл бұрын
Katie God I wish that was the majority’s attitude here. Instead we get incessant chanting of “taxation is theft” and “why should I have to pay for somebody else” 🙃

Nobody is saying he's a commie, he's just completely wrong about his American healthcare politics. He's a good guy, he just obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. Anyone who thinks universal healthcare isn't complete garbage, just doesn't know anything about healthcare. It is what it is. America will never have universal healthcare though, so the sooner people get that through their heads, the sooner we can stop wasting time telling people how stupid it is. We get it, people on the left have a serious problem with actually having to pay their own way through life, but that's the way it is. If you don't like it, go live in whatever terrible European country you'd like, or Canada.
