I’m not Australian, but when I was on Manly Beach back in 2008, some Aussies… much more “fluffy” than I was at 6’ 2”, 240# were saying the same things about me. It was my wife, me vs. 5 A’Holes teasing us when they were way, WAY fatter than we were. BUT… there was more of them than us. That and other experiences we had made me swear I’ll NEVER go to Australia or New Zealand in this lifetime unless I get paid a whole bunch of (American) dollars to do so.
@gerardroll64685 ай бұрын
@@enigmawyoming5201 … It sounds to me like you encountered some “over-privileged locals” & by that I mean those who take offence at anyone visiting the beach (it’s wide open to the public) who DOESN’T live within 50-100 yards of the beach. They’re everywhere & VERY easy to spot & very easy to “shoot down” 😈😈😈. By your description, it sounds like you met some local “sides of beef” (the local herd) who should’ve been getting dragged into the water by GreenPeace & whose butts would’ve caused a lunar eclipse in 3 states if they bent over. We’re not all like that but I hope that 1 bad experience doesn’t put you off from simply considering a return trip. I’m guessing they were probably intoxicated as well. @@gerardroll6468 I’m sure you are correct. I met plenty of good Aussies… but because I was not familiar with going into the back country, I got into a pickle because I could not fill a jerry can with petro and had to pay a guy to siphon gas out of my vehicle to fill the can so I could get to my next stop. One of many examples…. Gas huffing locals almost made me get stranded. BUT…. I’m just in a bad mood today. Catch me tomorrow and I’ll give tons of accolades about your area. I even met Manu! My wife thinks he is so better looking than Pete Evans. And I almost cried when I heard about Jock Zonfrillo passing away at his ripe age.
@gerardroll64685 ай бұрын
@@enigmawyoming5201 … I’ve also met Manu (quite by accident) as we literally ran into each other at an event in Sydney involving the My Kitchen Rules team. We momentarily collided & I began to apologise profusely & he was cool about it. Pete Evans on the other hand is the complete opposite. The looks & attitude I got from him were unforgivable. I went to “mouth off” at him (curse him out) but my girlfriend at the time (who’s now my wife) & Manu himself held me back & calmed me down. Yes, it was sad hearing that Jock passed away as we enjoy watching the cooking shows here like My Kitchen Rules & of course, Master Chef. It wasn't my choice, but I have a PhD, and when you are as bilingual as I am, this guy is DAMN funny!! This is not to toot my own horn, but when you get it, you get it! I wish that your comedy was as hysterical for me as it could be for the rest of the world if they only spoke more languages and tried to get a grasp of more cultures. God bless you!!
@ogi224 ай бұрын
Don't worry, there are people from other countries, who also know other languages and cultures. I'm from Poland and I use English language for a bit over 30 years. And as much as I don't like Polish standup, because it is still mostly political humour, I love American, because it's mostly about life. My first standup comedy I have seen it was a "Blue collar comedy tour". The worst for me to understand was Larry the Cable Guy 🤣 But with subtitles, watching him a few times I finally picked up his accent and I was fully able to appreciate his shows.

@@ogi22I guess I should have been a little more clear regarding the “people” I was talking about. I meant Caucasian Americans. Naturally some people learned in school like I did, but the vast majority speak only English and have no desire to speak another language. I just think it is such a shame, because you really miss out on meeting so many people and finding out so many new things about the world when you are monolingual. I have friends from Belgium, Holland, Japan, Singapore, Philippines, etc. Every single one of them speaks a minimum of two languages, some of them speak up to six. I am in awe of those people! Europe and many places around the world are so good about making sure they are multilingual. It always helps if a country is somewhat small and is bordered by countries that speak other languages. One set of my great grandparents immigrated to the US from Luxembourg around 1900. My grandfather did understand them, but they were shamed by others in the US for not speaking English at that time. It got so that if they spoke German at all, it was only at home… basically to each other and not really to the kids. Therefore, by the time even my father was born, he learned no German except when he learned some in the war. By my generation, we only used maybe six words or phrases in German. It is such a shame to have those gifts die out in a family 😢. It is very interesting to me what you say about Polish stand up! Another comedy I learned to love when I was a teenager was British humor. The first time I ever saw Monty Python, I could not stand it and I did not see what was funny about it. Little by little, I figured it out and now I think that kind of thing is hysterical. Absolutely Fabulous and programs like that just crack me up now! Cheers to you, and thank you for replying to me. It is always so interesting to hear things from other people’s perspective 🎉.
