After watching the World Championship races at Mont Sainte Anne, we were pretty curious about what it was like to actually ride the race courses. It turns out the XC course is a lot gnarlier than expected!

It’s a lot different when your racing, you have a ton of riders dragging mud and water ect on the rocks and roots ect. It gets messy really quick, plus the pace your riding is twice what you’d do while trail riding with no breaks after climbing your legs are stiff on the descent it’s very easy to make mistakes.

Those crashes could have been avoided only if they had a dropper post. Its an added weight but would help them a lot on technical sections.✌🏾

Yeah I can’t believe they don’t overlook the small weight savings for the benefits that a dropper post offers, seems crazy to me.
@lupitlupitan
@lupitlupitan 4 жыл бұрын
It was explained by Jolanda Neff that the benefits of having them is not that good unkess you can climb strong like Julien Absalon (he used dropper post). The extra weight is a huge burden in climbs and can give you a deficit in time vs the amouny of little second you gain on descending with dropper post. That's why these guys are practicing with high seat posts on descents which is so high that even pro down hillers are scared them.

some things have easy explanations when in a race, you have to recover once in a while. regarding the dropper, it really depends on the bike. newer trail bikes with 76 degree seat tubes cant be run without a dropper, older slacker (73 degree) seat tubes on xc bikes combined with short reach dont feel uncomfortable with static seatposts. xc tires dont exactly have side knobs to take advantage either, so more angle on the bike doesnt give that much more grip.

Because there were so many riders and stages on course you never knew how you were doing. So I just kept passing who ever was in front of me. My team riders kept telling me on lap passes I was way back. Jerks. The leader and I paced off each other whole race (I knew him) he was 3rd in norba points I was 5th. We ended up with a 5 minute gap over 3rd. Haha. Big shout out to Tommy Carr back then for going all out in the infamous naked criterium. Lmao.

It’s just about which way is faster, but which way consumes more energy; yea, smashing through a rock garden may save a second in the short run, but the energy wasted after doing that 5-6 times can make you lose 20-25 seconds in the long run - there is also the matter of conserving momentum.
