As a Tokusatsu fan I'm loving SSSS Gridman. While I haven't seen the original Gridman or Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, I was at least aware of them and their history prior to both the anime expo short, and the announcement for the anime. This definitely feels more like a Tokusatsu anime more so than what the Garo animes were doing. Hopefully the upcoming Ultraman anime in 2019 keeps it going. Part of me does hope that after this, anime fans will check out some Tokusatsu shows as I personally feel it's an underappreciated part of Japanese media.

It'd be easier to get into toku if it was more widely available. Shout! Factory has been a godsend with Sentai, but there's no Kamen Rider here in the west at all, outside of an out-of-print run of Masked Rider: The First. I don't even think Dragon Knight got a dvd release here in the states.

Yeah me too. Seems I can understand the whole concept of the series without even watching the tokusatsu series. For me, it's more like an original anime rather than adaptation of a tokusatsu series because the concept they brought are extremely different

Another member of the staff that should be noted is head screenwriter Keiichi Hasegawa, who's had extensive involvement in various tokusatsu series, most especially the Ultraman series. As someone that loved the Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad show it blows my mind that S4Gridman spent four episodes recapturing that saturday morning feeling I had before I realized it. Not to jerk off the show but it's a strangely nostalgic feeling watching this show. Like revisiting your elementary school and seeing it's got a new coat of paint. S4 Gridman is familar and comfortable, yet also new and exciting.

I really hated the way the new Ultraman show looked. I mean, the manga looks super great, but the Netflix anime just couldn't really capture the same feel and the way everyone was constantly moving made a lot of the characters look really weird and plastic-y. That show really could have used a better director and maybe a different style of lighting or something.

GOD I AM SO FUCKING HAPPY RIGHT NOW, I used to think Super Human Samurai (and the original gridman toys) I had/watched was all a fucking fever dream. Then a few years ago I saw that Studio TRIGGER short and man it got me good, and I wished for an anime, and only just found out today that it actually happened!! I was also trying to find images because I knew he used to have a dragon (Of which I had a toy of) and found Dyna/Drago, AND THEN saw a picture of a toy-gun version of Dyna's canon mode that I completely forgot I had, but then came rushing back with a shit load of memories from my childhood and taking that thing everywhere.... today has been one of the best nostalgia trips of my 28 year old life lol.

well, Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad is the US adaptation of the original japanese tv series Denkou Choujin Gridman. just like the Power Rangers are the US adaptation of the original japanese tv series Super Sentai. and SSSS.Gridman anime is actually a direct sequel to the original tv series Denkou Choujin Gridman. :3

Only some references. For example, in episode 8, when Yuta and Sho were hanging out in 7-21, the ending of Ultraman R/B started. Also, the fact that Sho and Akane are Ultra nerds are undeniable
