I used to live in California back when they had Republicans in charge, so before the big government liberals siezed control. And I can tell you in some places running and Jay walking CAN in fact get you arrested or at least a fine. If u run in some areas its assumed ur up to no good especially if u dress a certain way. Don't underestimate the ridiculousness of California. If it was that bad THEN I can imagine it's even worse now. I left right around the time skaters were really popular, in the mid 2000s. Skateboarding was pretty much illegal everywhere, if they bothered to catch you. Even dressing like a skater or dressing like you listened to hip hop, baggy pants, beanies, that was enough to get some yuppie to call the cops on you. My new York friends say it's even worse out there. It's not that running is expresslyillegal, its that they use other disruption laws to fuck with you if they don't like you. Which means if ur under 30 or dress like ur under 30, they WILL assume you are running from a crime. In California schools they have what they call "noon duty" it's parents and shit who volunteer to walk around the school and make sure kids are behaving impeccably. I remember many times getting sent to the principals office for stepping on grass, or an empty plot, or because me and my friends were pushing eachother or rough housing. There was always a "noon lady" lurking around every corner. Often a white Karen or Vietnamese woman with a heavy accent. They were like the gestapo. I remember getting the cops called on me for taking my asthma inhaler. I was like 12 so I still had that attachment, that little chamber thing. And it broke, so I threw it away and the cop saw me. I guess my friends were giggling and making jokes while I was in the bathroom puffing, and a noon lady called the police and the school cop roughed me up and searched me assuming we were smoking pot. So yeah the moral of the story is. Don't assume what is legal and illegal. I know this is a video game but I feel I have to drop some knowledge on you lest u find urself in a big city one day, getting the shit kicked out of you by police for jogging down the wrong street.

He is technically identical to the players robbing casinos with heavy weaponry. The question is: is he trying to avoid committing crimes, or is he trying to avoid getting caught committing crimes? Because willingly taking any action that you know will lead to another person's death is premeditated murder. If he incorporated self defense he'd have a stronger justification for their deaths, that's ignoring that his actions prove he was bounty hunting without a license anyway. - And who paid for his racing license!?

To elaborate on what our friend here is saying. GTA 5 is set in San Andreas (though this time it is only Blaine County and Los Santos County). San Andreas, in the real world, is in California. However, in the GTA universe, it is it’s own state likely somewhere between California and Texas. Probably around the California-New Mexico-Nevada area. So he wouldn’t STILL be roaming the streets of California as he was never there to begin with.

The bounty pier drowning thing, despite being done in the interest of committing no crimes, feels like a literal serial killer modus operandi; It strikes me as the kind of thing that new laws would be made for after someone actually did it and acted like a fucking batman villain over it, I just imagine a complete sociopath with a wry smile waiting at a police station to be let free as an angry, unhinged detective/interrogator is informed by the pier drowning bountyman's lawyer that he has, in fact, committed no real crime. It's not even manslaughter.

In bounty hunting, the target starts to attack you without provocation, self defense isnt a crime. Different from the tutorial mission, which was clearly a gang dispute, the bounty hunting was legal and the self defense after an unprovoked attack

I'd say it depends. Self defense is a thing but there are rules to it. If someone punches you once, you can't pull out a gun and shoot them in the head. The actions need to make sense for the circumstance. So for the bounties who punch you, you'd need to be getting beaten to death or pinned down for it to be justifiable. The ones with knives on the other hand are fair game.

Under CA law, the following GTA guns are legal to own •All melee except for knuckle duster, switchblade, and stone hatchet (Native American artifact) •double action revolver (considered C&R handgun) •flare gun (not considered firearm) •marksman pistol (manual action handgun) •navy revolver (not considered firearm) •pistol .50 (on handgun roster, 9 round capacity) •stun gun •vintage pistol (C&R weapon) •sniper rifle (bolt action, 10 round capacity) •bullpup shotgun (tube mag shotgun) •musket (not considered firearm) •Pump shotgun (tube mag shotgun) •marksman rifle mk2* (no pistol grip, no flash hider, no adjustable stock, 8 rounds) *someone has pointed out that M1A archangel stocks are actually considered to have pistol grips, so this one is actually illegal. Out of all of these you can basically only carry the knife and stun gun on your person, but you can RP running back to your personal vehicle to grab any of those guns out of the trunk if you’re in a self defense situation and still be legally in the clear.

In self defense situations, especially in places like California, the law becomes very gray. If someone were to respond violently to assault and battery or assault with a deadly weapon, instead of fleeing, it wouldn't be a pleasant case once you're in court.

@@Steven-cf1ty yeah, but being put in court doesn't mean you're guilty. If you can look at a situation in this ((video game)) where it is definitely a case of self defense, it's pedantic to sit there and just assume court = guilty. He could, if he wanted at least for the sake of the video and entertainment purposes make a point that he had to go to court to "prove" his actions just and legal. Also what he was doing with bounty hunting was arguably more illegal than beating up the wanted person and taking them in.

@@IEatPooPooForFun what you saw 90% of the video is bounty hunting, which is a legal profession and as far as we know you are being employed by a bail bonds woman. You can legally defend yourself against someone who is wanted for jumping bail. What he's doing by luring them into dying is literally more illegal than beating up a bail jumper who decided to attack you on sight, whether it be bare handed, knife, or gun. Manslaughter (or even murder if enough proof is given) for purposefully leading someone to their death vs. Beating criminal up for attacking you

But honestly, a premeditated staged accident probably still is a crime in the first place, just with more steps, so that whole bounty hunter thing was definitely iffy... I mean, I couldn't rub a chair in peanuts and then invite someone to my house, which I knew had a peanut allergy, and then when they died from sitting on the chair, just go "Well, I didn't do it. He sat on the chair himself" xD But it was very creative and fun to watch!
