A cure for Bipolar Disorder? That sounds amazing to people like me who have struggled with Bipolar Disorder symptoms their entire life. A cure also sounds especially good to those having a hard time accepting a “Mental Illness” diagnosis.
I've had countless people reach out to Polar Warriors asking if there is a “cure” or “alternative treatment” for Bipolar Disorder. Some have even provided links to medical professionals claiming to cure their illness, so of course I had to research this more myself. The prospect of not having to take medications or deal with a very stigmatized diagnosis would appeal to anyone. If there IS a cure for Bipolar Disorder out there, I want to be the first to know so I can share this information with my fellow Polar Warriors!
PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING ON THE VIDEO:
-Below is a quoted section from the video which highlights the points I'm trying to make. Any comments that aren't part of a constructive conversation WILL BE REMOVED. That doesn't mean you have to agree with me lol... Just be respectful of each other. We all deserve that.
“There is a big difference between a “cure” and a “treatment...” I'm NOT a doctor, I'm not a drug-pusher, and I respect that everyone has to find their own path to wellness. I'm not here to tell you that your “favorite KZbin doctor is bad” or that you need to take medications. I don't sell anything and I don't even talk about specific medications on this channel. I'm simply trying to appeal to people's common sense when assessing a very serious, potentially life-threatening illness... We're all looking for answers and trying to live our lives in the best way possible - for us. I get that. I also get how hard it is to hear a doctor say the words “Mental Illness” because I live with it myself! I've really been there. I know how appealing it is to think that we might have an “out” for the diagnosis, but that's simply not realistic in today's world. We are still far from finding a universal cure for Mental Illness. The brain is a very complicated thing and so are we. I just hope that after watching this video, you'll consider taking a good look at the treatments that are showing the most promise for treating Mental Illness, instead of gravitating towards enticing words like “cure” or “alternative.” Are modern treatments like meds and therapy perfect? Of course not! If we go back to the 1-in-5 number of those who don't survive Bipolar Disorder, I don't want you to place all your bets on something where the odds aren't entirely in your favor. Stick with what's been shown to work for the largest number of people - at least at first! Once you get a handle on your Bipolar symptoms, it's up to you and your team of care professionals to decide the next step. Just be careful out there Warriors and I say everything in this video out of love.”

Sarah, hi! I am also a follower of Jesus. He did cure me of alcoholism but not bipolar. If I had not stopped drinking I would have died. I don't think there will ever be an actual cure of bipolar disorder or alcoholism, etc. That's how I know Jesus cured me because I literally lost all desire for alcohol. It's been almost 20 years since I have drank. And believe me I have found other ways to self medicate like nicotine (I haven't smoked in almost 3 months!) caffeine and prescription meds not prescribed for me. It's a daily fight because I don't have insurance right now and I have been off my meds for 4 years! Except for the time my church helped me get to my family doctor and got 2 months prescriptions. Anyway, sorry for rambling on. But, just wanted to let you know I understand!

@@bloodmoonvampire6632 Lamotrigine works wonders for bi-polar disorder. It can cause a potentially fatal rash in extremely rare instances & dosage has to be increased slowly for that reason. That's the only side effect, though it is admittedly a severe one. That said, I've taken it for over a decade now & nothing else has ever been anywhere near as effective & there's no druggy feeling whatsoever. My dosage is 100mg twice a day. That said, doctors can be hesitant to prescribe it due to the potential rash so you may have to push hard for it. Also, there are tons of free prescription cards available online that bring the cost down to almost nothing. Good luck.

I have severe bipolar. It has been life long, and just got worse and worse. Frequent mixed episodes, psychosis, etc. Several people have told me that it's caused by my diet, lifestyle, etc. It's so defeating and belittling to hear. I have a great diet. My blood work is fantastic. I go the extra mile to make sure I'm physically healthy because it makes my well being so much better, and therefore my illness is more manageable. But it's not a cure. I still have bipolar disorder. Medication is crucial for me. I hate that I need it, but I do. I can not function otherwise. I did have a complicated journey finding the right meds, but finally I am functioning better. I might have a normal life some day. Also, I learned about micro dosing from your channel and asked my doctor about it. It has made a major difference. Thank you.

My perception of you is that you are a very genuine individual and I like that you speak in a "matter of fact" way... Not given to overt excitement and enthusiasm for your own sake. I watch several other channels whose subject matter is mental illness and there is this performer mentality which I do not like. This is a serious subject and the last thing I want to see is faux smiles and laughter (usually those persons have guests but still...). So I really enjoyed this video. I don't know if I have the disorder, I've not been diagnosed but my son was seen by a doctor or two and was told he had the dx many years ago but I am not sure that it was a good dx !!!. They put him on lithium and some other mood stabilizer and that was disastrous. That was 20 years ago and he hasn't been back since ( stopped the meds after about 2 years), so he's suffered, his relationships have suffered and he is currently hustling lawn care and salvage jobs to feed himself. He hasn't seen his children, whom he adored!!! for about 3 years now. His children's mother ( they have three together) is a totally self absorbed, childish woman who never understood his mental condition and refused to accept anything but top notch support from him whether they were together or not. He could not sustain her and she was rotten to the kids so he moved back to his home state to live with me, Mom. He behaves in very erratic ways, weed smoking, whatever else to self medicate. Lashes out at me one moment and then checking in on me and telling me he loves me the next. And sleeps like a homeless man, in his truck or the work shed when he can, he has destroyed the inside so that's not really inhabitable now. I try not to be passive aggressive when he does this but some times I can't hold back because he is so over the edge with mania one day and depression the next. I had a tiny lump in my throat when I saw the notification for your video and of course soon realized it was just a warning against charlatans. But I do appreciate your warning and as always, your delivery. I know you work so hard. My son is a tireless worker too. It must be a trait of the man afflicted. Waiting for your next... I've accepted my illness and I've gotten to live with it. It has been rewarding and challenging at the same time. It's like that Kanye West album cover "I hate being Bipolar. It's awesome."

I hate big pharma also but have tried the “special cure” and still find myself having to take some medication. 1 in 5 bipolar commit suicide. Y’know the most important thing I’m hearing from this video? It’s the fact you said that our condition is a degenerative disorder. It’s 100% true; my psychiatrist told me this years ago and it’s taken me to the age of 41 to realise this. It’s SO important that we BiPolar dudes and babes understand that. Only then can we adjust and manage ourselves and survive this bitchin’ thing. As ever, thank you, Rob. You’re fucking awesome. 💕

I feel like your chemistry is your chemistry. Medications can help with the swings. But using tools that you learn over time is the key. Not to a "cure", but I feel it's the biggest part of "medication". It's about learning through experience. You can't change who you are. Your brain is a powerful thing. I feel if you are bipolar. You need to feel your swings coming. Find ways to ride through it. If you aren't feeling the swings. You are most likely over medicated. There will never be a "cure". It's a life long lesson. Thank you for this. My dad was mentally ill ‘Christian ‘ and he chose to dive deeply into evangelicalism.. read the Bible every day (as his cure )and berated me and my sister with the verses and horrific stories every day . Told us horrible things about our bodies and how we were born in ‘sin’ because of his religious madness . He beat me continuously from a baby to beat the devil out of me. He called my sister jezebel and street walker because she wore pants in the 70’s . She overdosed at 21. Religious faith in the mentally I’ll can kill entire families . He even took us on a late night canoe ride in a small lake body and stopped near the rapids .. our small canoe was packed with our whole family , 5 people, a ice chest and various other things .. when he stopped he stared at the rapids and my mom screamed at him to move us away from the rapids.. I think he wanted to drowned us , but somehow he lost his nerve . Faith in the mentally I’ll can cause extreme damage to families and especially to their innocent children IME

I read a paper about the molecular biology of bipolar disorder and the first thing that was said was that there was no thing as bipolar disorder ie there is no underlying unified pathology that every person with bipolar disorder has. It is very complicated, so I'm very sceptical of the mainstream psychiatric profession because they don't really understand it themselves, despite having access to a bunch of facts. I have had benefits from supplements and my light box, but they're not perfect and I'm certainly not cured. I am much better than I was, and I'm not on those horrible meds with all the awful side effects. Even so, what works for me, may not work for someone else.

Dear Robert, Thanks for the video. I am bipolar. I have been severely biipolar for more than 25 years. I have recently found something that does actually help me although I would not call it a "cure". I have been following a low oxalate diet for about 6 1/2 months. My mind is calm and relaxed all the time now. Within 24 to 48 hours of starting this diet I could feel sort of a fog lifting from my brain. It helps me sleep better. It helps me more than any pill I have ever taken. There is a place on the internet you can get a 150 page list of the oxalate content of foods based on laboratory testing and it does not cost anything. The foods you eat are regular foods that are not expensive.

I can't find it right now, but a British dietician had a 'cure' on his facebook page. It was for severe mental illnesses like Schizophrenia and Bipolar. I very nearly tore into him there and then. I've bought his diet books and am going to follow them (low GL, decent healthy eating plan as well from what I can see), but to me, there is no cure for Schizophrenia or Bipolar. If there was a cure for Schizophrenia, I'd have told my Mum about it! 36-37 years she's had schizophrenia. As soon as she wakes up, the voices are there. They're there constantly until the the moment she goes to sleep. It pisses me off when people claim to cure Bipolar. As for those who have disliked the video, I'd like to know their reasons for it. If it's because you're a scientologist, I have two words for you. The first one starts with 'f' and the other word is off. Do these people actually think we enjoy having Bipolar and enjoy having to take all our meds every day? I HATE taking meds. I want to come off them, but I know deep down that they're the only things keeping my stable at the moment. If it wasn't for the medication, I wouldn't be holding down the job I have right now.

It’s deeply confronting to have something that can’t be cured, I think the recovery model is a better one, in that model you continue with your treatment and also work on relationships and living your best life. To recover does not deny the continued existence of the illness and its potential to impact you.

I have Bipolar Disorder type 2 and follow a whole foods, plant based, minimally processed, no sugar added vegan diet. I try to exercise regularly and get enough rest in the dark at night and get enough sunshine during the day, drink plenty of water, speak to loved ones and therapists openly about my condition, breathing exercises, meditate, take a multivitamin that includes Vitamin D and another for Omega 3's EPA and DHA. I quit drinking and ingesting marijuana substances 3 years ago, I quit caffeine around the same time. I do not take medication. I quit ingesting hormonal birth control pills in 2014. I tried joining various 12 step groups, tried aligning with a higher power through prayer and religious community. I tried positive affirmations journaling, forming a daily routine, gratitude journaling, rant journaling, writing letters I don't send to people I have felt distressed by our interactions with, cried alone countless times, screamed in the car or into my pillow to allow my emotions to come out in a safe private space, I've tried reading, coloring, scrap booking, singing, dancing, anything considered a "healthy" outlet. After all of that, here I am, 29 years old, broke, in debt, with past due bills, just received a D in my Cognitive Neuroscience class, living at home being supported almost entirely by family except for doordashing a little here and there for my healthy food, etc. And I'm laying in bed, completely exhausted for no reason, BARELY able to muster the energy to call my *very loving and supportive* mom back or roll out of bed to shower and go Christmas light show walking with my *also very kind and supportive and fun* friend. I feel like I've tried everything and it's like beating my head against a wall. It's just me alone, exhausted physically and emotionally once again in a dark room where I could sleep for 3 days straight if it weren't for a little thing called bills and responsibilities and house maintenance and self care and studying for a degree I probably am too far gone cognitively to receive and a job I probably won't be able to sustain for more than a few weeks or months to afford a place I'll probably end up getting evicted from or couch surfing off of my family for eternity all because I am bedridden for weeks then impulsively make and spend a tiny bit of money for 3 days straight then it's back to bed for another month after my *exhausting* 3 days of working and studying and impulsive harmful choices before going back to bed for another month!🙇‍♀️

I have Bipolar 2 & I saw & have listened to Dr. Daniel Amen who has been on QVC & other talk shows as well. He swears that Bipolar, Depression, Anxiety & major other body ailments are curable completely & that have to do with the food we eat & supplements & by getting expensive brain scans. For a little while I kept on listening to him & I almost bought into all of that, but thought to myself all the hundreds of dollars that I would spend which I can’t afford anyway would probably be & put me at the same place. That place is to mentally find your inner center & meditate & things that I already knew already. I think people do things with good intentions to a degree but I think there’s so much out there that promise you pie in the sky results. Take this & you’ll feel this, take that & you’ll cure this do this & everything will be OK & you’ll be OK. it’s definitely unprecedented, how much mental illness is out there and how much is brought to light. It feels and seems like everybody has something today. I gather it’s from the air we breathe, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and of course things brought into the mix by hereditary. I struggle every single day, in waves of deep emotion that has put me many times at the brink of losing my purpose here on earth. It is absolutely the worst time in my life, and it is a chore, not only to stay connected, but to live in the conscious and present of what goes on with me on the daily. Still, I am so glad I found your channel. I know I’m not alone and that’s a good thing. Of course you’re not with me 24 hours of the day, but I will say that hearing your thoughts and your feelings, and overall views on what you’ve accomplished, and what you’ve done and what you share puts me in a place that I do want to listen. I don’t think anyone has all the answers but it’s good to know that there are people like you out there that are absolutely trying to show light and love to others that are struggling as well. It also helps that it’s coming from you as a source that has bipolar. It’s very hard for other people who don’t have bipolar to give you suggestion when they haven’t really walked in your shoes. Thank you for your continued support. The vibes that you put out into the world is tremendous. I don’t know what’s in store for me, or how I get through each moment, but seeing your channel, hearing the subjects that you say, giving advice and taking stock in some of your methods of dealing with what we all have to deal with incites me to stay put and stay on this earth a little longer to find out if there’s more to just the struggle but a means to survive. So thank you. I would like to be at some point in my life a polar warrior. Right now, I’m just trying to be someone who gets through each moment.❤

Some of my friends don’t understand that I will have to battle my bipolar symptoms my entire life... I went to a PHP and improved a lot. I’m on meds and in therapy. But they don’t get that I will still deal with certain symptoms. I’m a Christian and sometimes people say to “fight those thoughts” through prayer, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in spiritual warfare and prayer but I wish believers were more educated on mental illness so they could know the difference... I actually get sad when people act like I’ll be “healed” because while it’s possible, it isn’t likely and I’ve accepted that. I’m “okay” with that... I don’t like it but it’s manageable, and I try to look at it as a challenge-something that forces me to grow in ways I otherwise might ignore (example better sleep hygiene, eating, etc). Plus it allows me to be more compassionate and relate to others who suffer-no matter what the reason (physical/mental/financial/etc). Plus, suggesting I need healing/a cure implies I’m not good enough just how I am... As long as I manage it, I can still have a fulfilling life. I wish more people understood that. Thanks for your videos!!! 💙

Hi Sir, i just want to ask about myself. I came here in your channel because one video i had watch about Cyclothymia it seems the symptoms is happening to me. To start with i can't sleep at night so many things in my mind, i can't even figure why those things in my mind. Like i am thinking that i have a superpower that i will all the needy person. It seems many stories in my mind that at the end i am so great, perfect. I have that feeling also that when i am angry i can't control what words i will say, i cannot also speak my words clearly and if i am typing my hands is shaking that i cannot type the words properly. Also sometimes i felt so depressed just for nothing. And the worst is i am shaking when i saw blood, both in actual and in photos i am shaking. To stop my shaking I stop looking at it. Also if someone will tell something about diseases i am also shaking upon hearing it. It seems i am internalizing the disease in my body. So what i am doing to continue my shaking is to stop the person or i will divert the convo into different topic. I never consulted a psychiatrist as of now.

So I am a Rapid cycle Bipolar. I do believe that we can rewrite our brain with my many different tools, including percrptions. Fitness, nutrition (most important part of life), balanced life (family, self love, emotional support and work). For me I tried to commit suicide July 21 2018 and since then I have quit drinking 100%. Changed the how I earn money (new job closer to home) learned how to love myself and how not to beat myself up when I fail, which is a learning opportunity and build inner strength. Thank you for this. Wonderfully stated about spiritual leaders try to convince the mentally I’ll that faith can heal your chemical imbalance or brain damage etc‘ .Religious leaders and their flock have a vested interest financially in convincing people to trust their particular faith. They aren’t just doing charity work. When I had cancer , some told me I just needed faith . I told them to get lost. My doctors saved my life. When anyone tells me I need to do what they say, I ask myself , do they have any expertise in this field? What are their qualifications? What’s their personal investment/reward ? Yes , doctors are rewarded , but they also go through decades of training and study . They also get sued a lot. They spend the largest portion of their lives attending to the care and healing of others . Faith leaders spend their lives on a fund raiser campaign telling people they were the voice of ‘god’ or ‘Allah ’ or whomever and we need to listen and by the way , pay $$$$ because this sh*t ain’t free lol 😂.

Hi Robert. Once again an exceptional video. Great job in remaining objective in covering so many facets of a very complex and hot subject. You obviously know your topic first-hand. I really appreciate your humility, emotional honesty, and transparency it solicits one 's trust along with your exceptional ability to articulate some of the very subtle aspects of this spectrum disorder. In fact, when watching your videos, its easy for me to forget that you struggle daily with this illness yourself given how effortlessly you communicate the nuances of how one is affected. Sure, there's post production, lol. However no amount of editing would give your work here the qualities of authenticity conveyed. These are all topics I myself have explored in trying to determine the root causes of the "illness", "disease" or "disorder", let alone "the cure". I'd love to have this conversation some time sitting around a campfire when we were both in a good place. Just an encouragement and affirmation that what you are doing here is incredibly valuable. Thank you!

The brain is the organ that tells my finger that i have a papercut and that it hurts. Just because my pain is invisible does not mean it doesn't exist. Cancer can't be seen either.

Has anyone of you tried to use homeopathy for helping you bipolar swings? Could it be supporting to use it together with meds and for example because of it's good effect even reducing a bit of the meds or maybe even not taking meds at all after some time (obviously with the support of the qualified homeopathy doctor and with the knowledge of the psychiatrist who gives you medicines as well)? I've read few articles on that topic, but I wonder has anyone of you have some experience with homeopathy and could share some thoghts on it?

Medicine/treatment is very important. Ive been diagnosed since my young 20s and i am 37 now. I have been stable for years with a treatment of depekote/risperdal. May scare or give anxiety if you read about the side effects that may or may not happen. But the postives FARRR outway the negatives. Regime of hydration/gym/wals/meditation. If i die from the medicine so be it to live my life normal.

Whether it's real or fake, I do think no one should have a cure pushed on them. In a lot of cases what people need is 1) patience and understanding from others and 2) forgiveness and acceptance of themselves.

All of us (or have loved ones who) have BP wish there was a cure. Maybe in time GOD will actually give someone the knowledge to actually cure MH issues. Until then we(or loved ones)had better take our meds as prescribed, as well as take care of our bodies by proper diet and exercise. My faith in JESUS has been the biggest help. Knowing that I have His love and that of my wife and a good friend is what made we want to get treatment/help in the first place. It is all of that working together that is what is going to be what continues to work. In my opinion, I will not be well without my meds, working in conjunction with the love of JESUS CHRIST, my wife, and my good friend. May GOD be your help in troubled times, and may GOD bring you to the proper meds as well as people who love you.

In my opinion, CBD has the ideal profile for treating bipolar- it has very few side effects, low toxicity, calms the immune system, is an anti-psychotic as effective as conventional drugs, is an anxiolytic, an anti-depressant and inhibits GSK-3 like lithium which accounts for some of its mood stabilising effects.

Unfortunately I haven’t found CBD helpful for me. I have Cyclothymia, a less intense version of Bipolar disorder, with anxiety/ADHD. Regarding mood, the mineral over the counter supplement Lithium Orotate has helped me significantly, with an almost non-existent side effect profile, except feeling a little flat. Just a thought if anyone is checking out alternative methods.

I went to my first psychiatrist and saw “Christian psychiatry” on the door. I am an agnostic but I don’t discriminate against religious people. I gave her a shot. And she gave me a long list of medications she could not prescribe due to her beliefs. I got a second recommendation from my therapist. As you said, they mean well but I refused to let someone else’s religious views get in the way of my mental health. I wish her luck but at the same time o feel sorry for her patients because they could me missing out on living a better life because she won’t prescribe a lot of medications.

A structured lifestyle change is definitely imperative for bipolar disorder remission. Pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet, the use of water, trust in divine power-these are the true remedies. Using these remedies is how I currently get victory over the diagnosis. I no longer have a need of man's prescription of wellbutrin and depakote to maintain the disorder but instead taking God's 8 prescriptions to overcome the disorder. Also, due to the wholesome plant-based diet, I no longer have imbalanced hormones (that dairy loves to contribute to) which contributed to the mood disorder. Sometimes imbalanced hormones can be misdiagnosed as bipolar disorder due to similar symptoms.

I was very suicidal until I had my son, it's not really a topic that pops up in my brain anymore. However, I still self-medicate, with alcohol and medical marijuana. I quit drinking liquor, that always put me in handcuffs. But a few beers and a bowl will calm you down quicker than anything. That being said, I'm over this lifestyle, put petrified of the thought of taking a bunch of pills like my mother. I just found this channel out of nowhere on my feed, any advice???
