Ehh honestly there were a lot of good releases in 2020. Greyview got my AOTY but there were this album, Loathe, Virus by Haken, Caligula's Horse, Trivium's WTDMS, The Ocean and Indistinct's first album... Arguably a better year overall than 2021 and, probably, 2022. Though '21 had Vildhjarta, Indistinct's 2nd album and Jinjer and several really good EPs (Lorna Shore, TDWP, Inv-Animate...) Regardless, yeah, TWIE is definitely a metalcore hood classic though probably not as much as TPIFS.

This album means so much to me man. It came out right as I went into one of my deeper and darker throws of depression. How I Fall Apart resonated (and still does) so deeply with me and is one of the few songs that's ever made me actually just sit there cry while listening to it. Even now hearing it in this video gets me in the feels, every time I listen to it. The musicianship of this band is absolutely incredible.

I was one of the comments that was like: He probably won’t like Currents (The way it ends) because he doesn’t like Polaris. To me, they don’t sound the same but they evoke the same feelings. I am more into sound spaces, than into the technicality of music. That is where I come from. Thanks for explaining your point of view. For me it is the oposite. I love metalcore (and post-hardcore) and sometimes I dive into prog and djent-y music to add some flavour. So, I now know where you are coming from. Prog is a lot more unpredictable and experimental and I enjoy it sometimes but I prefer the steadiness and more clear and straight forward approach of Metalcore/Post-Hardcore. And as far as I know, Core music originates form Punk, which is not very known for its finesse. It is more emotions and lyrics. (But that is a whole nother topic for another day - I am not too deep into music history though.) I love when music brings people together. I can see now, that your brain likes to be tickled by unpredicability of music. To me it is the energy that both bands bring to the table. Polaris is modern metalcore but it is not the flat, poiished version of Metalcore, that is also out there and boring to me as well. I can see that your brain doesn’t agree with me. My brain is put off by to much distraction. That is why I don’t listen much to Prog and Djent-y music. I hope, I can get my point across. This is the first time I have ever thought about this in depth. But I love it. This album reaction is challenging me and I like that. But I agree: This album is an absolute banger. I listened to it before I watched the video to refresh my memory and my thoughts around this album and my verdict was: Phenomenal. And it gets even better with the lyrics on screen. It jumped up a few notches - from a 10 to 12+. Through your perspective and explaination I could hear details, I hadn’t noticed before. They are hidden in plain sight (and not distracting at all to me). Good! I can see now that Polaris and Currents are not similar. In my head the both have albums out that resonate with me on a top tier level. But I haven’t found an answer to the question, what I love about Polaris. (Now I’m gonna go back and listen to Polaris with my full attention). Maybe it is because I enjoy the -core genres very much. (Edit: Yes, it is the same energy that is created by different things musically.) Currents’ playfulness (in compairison to Polaris) is not distracting. Thanks for pointing out the unpredictability of this record. I am more on the even side, you maybe on the odds side but we agree that it needs both to shine and to create the tension that our brains seek. So, thank you, Drew, for this incredible experience. At first I was a little bit down but (because I love Polaris a lot). But you made your point and I agree with you to a certain degree. And the best part is: You know, when the lows are lower, the highs become even higher. This reaction is a perfect example. Thanks for sharing it with us. I would love to suggest you more bands and albums but I am not sure, if this will satisfy your brain. - Caliban (German Metalcore band, around for a long time), The Opposite From Within (2004) - it is old school Metalcore. - Ill Nino, US Metalcore with strong latino influences. Earlier albums like Revolution, Confession or One Nation Underground would be my picks. I don’t know, if they have a chance to win a patreon poll, since both are 2000 music. But I leave them here, just in case you need something to react to. I don’t have the money to subscribe to your Patreon on a monthly basis. So, I end this here and hope that some more albums I enjoy, get reacted to. I saw Allt on one of the polls. I am looking forward to this reaction. Cheers!

What a comment - so much to digest but I took it all in my man. Appreciate how much effort went into that. That’s the beauty of these videos! At the end of the day, it’s all just opinions & they vary over time. I’m yet to go back to that Polaris album, but it was by no means a ‘bad’ album, it just didn’t click with me instantly like other records have(case in point; this album) As for the requests, I’m currently on the mission to get through all of the current(pun not intended, lol) ones we have running. But, the massive positive to all of this is that I’m not going anywhere and time is on our side my man. Again, appreciate the love & don’t stress about the Patreon membership bro. Glad you're finally checking out Currents. IMO their album "The Place I Feel Safest" is even better if you can believe it. Same tone and sound but a lot more diverse and technical. Should also check out Shadow of Intent's "Melancholy" album. Chris is the guitarist for both Currents and Shadow of Intent and they share some vibes although SoI is more deathcore/death metal. The technical section at the beginning of How I Fall Apart is basically if Chris wrote a Shadow of Intent song for Currents.

They try to “sell” their reactions with this stupid front that’s so fake because they never acted like that with their old stuff and now all of a sudden are because they’ve gained a following. And then they like every single thing they react to. And it’s just so fake just to please an audience. But you’ve remained genuine and for that - thank you! This album is similar to a confused person lost in the woods at night. At one point, the person hears a roar echo in the forest. Upon looking in the direction of the roar, a giant wild beast appears and starts to run towards the lost person at an unnaturally fast speed, destroying trees and boulders on its way. The person has only enough time to feel an ill mixture of primal fear and surprise before the beast makes its way to them, grabbing them in one of their hands, big enough to ragdoll the entire body of the lost adult. The person feels slight pain on their sides from being squeezed, and for a short moment, they are able to look directly at the beast, as it holds them on its hand. The beast is suffering, with tears on their eyes and a mortified expression. The beast also appears to be mortally wounded, with a big, gaping wound on its chest. For a short moment, the lost person and the beast stare at each other eye to eye, just to be dropped down to the floor. The beast then takes a few steps back and proceeds to have a violent breakdown, falling to its knees, hitting the floor with both its fists. The beast convulses and shakes a couple more times before collapsing down to the floor and finally dying with a soaring, ear piercing roar. This is what i feel this album feels like.

And besides living in tragedy on the new record, remember me is my favorite.

So glad I found this video in my recommended... "The Way it Ends" has been my favorite album since it's release and I think watching you listen to this for the first time reminds me of my first listen. The album for me is like a book or a movie, everything flows from start to finish and it just makes sense. You can't take one song out, you can't change order of a song, this album was so well crafted. The feeling in the first half, djenty riffs and breakdowns, then kill the ache is a heavier ballad leading into let me leave... perfection. The last 2 songs are by far the highlight for me. How I fall Apart could have easily been the album closer, but they jump right back in with Better Days and how after the bridge the riff gets layered with a breakdown layered with the clean chorus layered with the screaming prechorus as it all culminates into an end is simply perfect. 10/10

Yeah that riff in Better Days is absolutely fucking mindblowing. Was probably one of my top 3 riffs of 2020 together with the final breakdown in Monarch by Invent, Animate. Also there's a lot more of that kind of riffs in Currents' first full length. First example that comes to mind to me is the second verse in Shattered. Just thought of this, in terms of replayability and being "satisfying", you have to check out Fit For An Autopsy. Honestly any one from their last 4 albums is amazing.

I actually listened to both "The Way it Ends" and "The Death of Me" in the past 10 days because they weren't on Apple Music in my country so I had to find them in other ways, and I agree with you 100% when you say that this album is much better, and I really liked "The Death of Me" as well. It's just that Currents' album has this specific atmosphere all throughout while being diverse. It's hard to put it into words but it's just a step above in songwriting and structure. However, I have to say that I loved "Masochist" sooo much as a track, the riff leading to the bridge and then the powerful emotional screams with the guitar in the background always get me. Also, please listen to Lovelorn by Before I Turn! I find it similar to this album, and it's soooo good and underrated

The beautiful thing about music: First play-through is nice, second play-through you listen to the lyrics, third play-through you hear the riffs and start understanding all of the instruments together and finally it hits you. This band and breakdown of sanity will be my all time favorite

Honestly best album ever from start to finish. No bad song at all everyone is a banger. Seeing the joy on your face from listening to how I fall apart and better days is just how I felt as well

The Place I Feel safest is straight up in my top 6 albums of all time and while it took me a few listens to really vibe with this album it definetly grew on me a ton and ended up being in my top three albums of 2020. Can't wait for the next album.

Between Shadow of Intent and Currents, even Our Eternity, Chris Wiseman is a fucking genius

Yes!!! Really glad you liked this one Drew, easily one of my favorite metalcore albums too (and maybe one of my all time favorites overall). Currents is such an amazing band, really recommend their other albums and the new single "The Death We Seek" (Cant wait for their next one). And I really do agree with your vision about Currents and Polaris, such distinct bands and I didnt really understood why other people were putting them in the same "basket". Dont get me wrong, I think Polaris is amazing and I listen to "The Death of Me" from time to time because is such an energetic album. But Currents in general has a much more complex approach to their music in general, and their riffage reminds me a lot of Keaton Goldwire writing too (Invent Animate lead guitarist, wainting patiently for you to react to their album "Greyview", the riffs in this album are stellar). Besides that, thanks for the great reaction! I hope you keep exploring these newer albums, there have been some amazing stuff being put out in recent years.

Watching you just sit with the end of Better Days as it unfolds is hilarious and relatable. It's like "Jesus Christ, hold on! this is too much!"

'The place I feel safest' is insane. First time i listened to it was in an airport and I lost my shit haha. Way more technical and creative as far as riffs go. You'll love it!

Currents is an amazing band and you identified something I have always been amazed at which is how natural they are at their songwriting. Nothing is ever forced, it all comes together so (seemingly) effortlessly. And that sound is helped a lot by their A-tier mixing which creates this beautiful brutal wall of sound that delicately incorporates the ethereal/electronic/or lighter elements that they sprinkle throughout to keep things fresh. And yes, that freshness is a hallmark of their sound you also mentioned where they're unpredictable; as soon as you get on their groove, they toss in more and more riffs, and then bring it all back together with another twist or element. And even when you have an intuition the breakdown is coming it always delivers and is so good it doesn't matter you've predicted it. Lastly they are a band keeping the guitar solo alive, and they do it so well. Not to hype you up too much, but I honestly thought this was the more formulaic album compared to The Place I Feel Safest. Not in a bad way, since it's obviously an amazing album, but they honed in on and perfected the sound that they really carved out in TPIFS. Kind of like what listening to Alien was like after Obsidian. That said, I think TPIFS is such a good album you'll definitely enjoy it as much if not more than TWIE. Cheers mate!

Monster probably my favorite song by these guys. But also I thought that The Place I Feel Safest was overall a bit better of an album. And I LOVED this one!
