I don’t know if i’m stupid or just missed it but can someone please explain why grey doesn’t just return to ironrose cause he’s friends with rhen?? like I genuinely don’t understand this problematic/plot (i know he’s the heir but still he doesn’t want to rule and nobody else knows so why leave?!?) Please somebody help i’m so confused haha

Hi, I've just finished reading the book and I am thinking about the same thing...maybe he's just afraid that if he returns to the court, Karis Luran would reveal his true identity even though he doesn't want it to be revealed? Because Lilith got the information about him being the hier from Karis, right? Just guessing :) I hope I am going to learn more about the reason of his decision in the second book :D

@genevieve Hi, I know I'm late. I think it's because syhl shallow needed the alliance with rhen (For their trades via the water-routes of Emberfall). And rhen is against the alliance. even after Lia Mara became the queen, he didn't accept the alliance. Grey knows that Lia Mara wants to bring peace to both kingdoms and they're in a relationship. So he can't just abandon her. Also if he does, syhl shallow still needs those water routes so they'll have to go on a war with Emberfall eventually. And then doesn't have enough forces to stop them. Also I think after the thing then did to Tycho, torturing him to get the truth out of grey drew them apart. Grey doesn't trust him as he does Lia mara to bring peace.
