I remember reading an article in one of the prevalent gun magazines decades ago about an Officers 1911 comp made by Richard. It was very interesting, especially how he worked out the ports on the comp. It was a beautiful compact and I think it even had 20 lines per inch checkering on the front and back strap. I was in my early twenties and would hover over the pictures just aching for me just like it. State of the art at the time. It was so clean and detailed and I wanted one so bad. I don’t remember how much it was, even if I had the money, it was never going to happen. A young family was the focus, so instead, a few years later I opted for a two tone 5” Springfield Armory 45 ACP that I saved up for. Never forgot that beautiful pistol from Richard Heinie though. The comped pistol shown is a craftsman’s masterpiece pistol showing the careful attention to detail.

I'd forgotten about Miami Vice and can't really remember what guns they had but I do remember that Tubs often packed a sawn off style of shotgun which I think was double barrelled and almost certainly 12 Gauge although I suppose that it could have been a 20 to make at a bit easier to hold on to.

I have a Para Ordnance framed pistol with a similar slide, barrel, and port setup made by Safari Arms in the 1980s. It's Government length overall, so the barrel is about Officer model length. It never functioned reliably in this setup, but surprisingly I have gotten regular Officer, Commander, and Government length slides and barrels to work on the Para frame. A few years ago the Hawaii 5-0 armorer contacted me about acquiring it for an episode of their show if he could get permission to ship it to he Islands. I guess he wasn't able to because nothing more ever came of it.

@thomasgonzalez9175: Producer Michael Mann requested that Crockett carry a state-of-the-art handgun, hence why he used cutting edge semi-automatics, a Sig Sauer P220 in the pilot, the Bren Ten in seasons one and two, a Smith & Wesson 645 in seasons three and four and a Smith and Wesson 4506 in season five. Tubbs carried a Smith and Wesson Model 49 Bodyguard across all five seasons. This was chosen to better reflect his "from the streets" background, having accesses to cheaper readily available weaponry.

by the way that actor, the guy who played General Golgo from James Bond, and the Specter agent in From Russia With Love, Walter Gotell and that very same set show up on knight rider at the same time, as part of that episode was filmed in California, including the scene where the daytona gets it, its actually on a beach in cali and the model maker for its blow up scene, was the same guy who worked on knight rider for the blow up scene, just for safety's sake, as you dont want that stuff coming towards the actors and it also ties into why the testarossa was black, it was fresh off the boat, and not in miami yet, and they even had one of the promo photos they did of it in the california hills with both of them wearing their outfits from that episode, and I gotta say, that original color on that car, if you ever see one in that OG color Nero Daytona Metalic, it is fantastic, it has a dark purple metalic hue to it, really beautiful, and honestly I kinda wish they had left it alone, as theirs not many in that shade, and metalics are hard to layer to look like that which might explain the respray just from a maintenance perspective, but DAMN If it wasnt beautiful also gotta say this isnt michael mann's first work to have a custom longslide in it, Thief, with its music done by Tangerine Dream had a Jim Hoag longslide in it, so I cant say I'm surprised these and the detonics scoremasters kept showing up in vice back then, which fits as the patent on the 1911 had finally run out around that time, 75 years I think, and other people besides colt were finally able to make them and do their own custom versions of it using things other than the colt heck I half wonder if that's why they reintroduced the python when they did, it was getting pretty close lol also see thief and manhunter, they are really REALLY good frigging films, and Dennis Farina, a real life chicago cop is in both, one in a small role, the other big along with William Peterson actually, and actually, that film is why Tangerine dream got called in to do that fully interactive score with GTA 5 back in the day the highest selling form of media to date, so they gotta be happy with the returns on that also to live in and die in la is another banger too, like William Peterson was the GOAT back then, like from Manhunter to that damn was that a good era for films, the 90's was good too, but you had that mix of 70's rawness with the new film techniques and music which really set it apart that's not to say they didnt have their trash too like any era, but it far outweighed the garbage,

@Kristian-vb5dk7 ай бұрын
Bren Ten was too unreliable with blanks (it was converted to .45 ACP, so it was not 10mm Auto version). That is why they switched to S&W 645 after the 2nd season. Ant then to S&W 4056 in the final season. If you mean what happened to Bren Ten in story/canon of Miami Vice universe, it was never explained. Perhaps Crockett just liked 3rd generation Smiths better.

More than a few episodes. Sonny Crocket/Don Johnson choice of handgun in Miami Vice pilot was SIG Sauer P220 .45 ACP, rest of the 1st season: Bren Ten ("10 mm Auto", but it was converted to .45 ACP), The first episode of 2nd season: Some (probably series 70/80) Colt 1911 .45 ACP , rest of the 2nd season: Bren Ten "10 mm Auto". Season 3 and 4: Smith and Wesson model 645 .45 ACP Season 5: S&W model 4506 .45 ACP. Backup guns in ankle holster: 9mm Detonics Pocket 9 (pilot episode), .45 ACP Detonics Combat Master (seasons 1-3) and 9mm S&W m6906 (seasons 4-5).

I was binging Miami Vice a few months back. Always noting their weapons. Crocket mostly carried a 1911. Tubs always carried a dinky little 38 snub nose. The show always embellished their weapons capabilities, like Tubbs and the lady cops shooting their widdle snubby at sniper distances . And in many episodes uzis and Mac 10s were considered the ultimate state of the art weapons. If I were Philip Michael Thomas I would’ve protested for a bigger more impressive weapon. Not only because Crocket the Pocket Rocket came off as the lead character when Tubbs and Crocket were supposed to be equals, but that doofy little snub nose kind made Tubbs look slightly emasculated next to Crocket. RIP Elvis. Elvis was the true ultimate weapon on the show. I’d trade half my arsenal for a boat alligator

Michael Mann hired Jim Zubiana to teach Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. Jim said Thomas was not into guns at all but when he had to use them, he preferred the small J frame S&W’s and the short sawed off double barrel since they were less menacing.,
