Steps for installing the custom Obsidian theme, "Soft Paper" Preparation: Consider downloading Ideaverse for Obsidian first: start.linkingyourthinking.com/ideaverse-for-obsidian Try to install the theme in that vault as an experiment. Step 1: Open Obsidian, go to Settings, click Appearance, then Manage. Search for AnuPpuccin, and click Install and Use. Step 2: Go to Community Plugins, click Browse, search for Style Settings, and enable it. Click the Style Settings options. Step 3: In Style Settings, click the Import button. Step 4: Go to this Google Doc. docs.google.com/document/d/1PoxFmdT9ZSoiU51GMAzLK0Pj4JuecVT3rLP76vK45BA/edit?usp=sharing Step 5: In the Google Doc, click Edit, Select all, and Copy. Step 6: Return to Obsidian, paste the copied content into Import settings in Style Settings, and click Save. Step 7: Go to the Apple Fonts page. developer.apple.com/fonts/ Step 8: Find and install the New York font. Step 9: Open Obsidian, press Command+P (or Ctrl+P on Windows), type Reload, and click Reload app without saving. Step 10: Quit and reopen Obsidian.

@@linkingyourthinking I had the same question, thanks @chadarmstrong! The only catch with this fix is that it makes New York the default font for all Themes (unless I'm doing something wrong). So it makes the context switching between Prism and Soft Paper less seamless. Is this something we would have to ask the AnuPpuccin developer to "fix"?

I have three different themes, because I have three different vaults so, like you said, it helps immediately identify which one I'm in. I have one for recipes, one that's an inventory of my papercrafting supplies, and then my regular Obsidian vault. For my regular vault, I'm currently using Dayspring, with some custom color tweaks. But I actually chose it for very much the same reasons you designed the one in your video (I have a softened background so it's not so harsh a contrast, with some bolder color for heading, etc. for visibility at a glance), so I'm probably going to switch. My recipe vault is Maple. It's also pretty simple, without too many bells and whistles, but it makes the overall vault turquoise so it's really easy to tell apart from my main vault. And my inventory database is pretty utilitarian, so it's just set to the default theme.

I find the concept of having different themes for different tasks and mindsets very interesting because I cannot relate to it at all. Having one centralized and global "feel" that I recognize and feel at home with is key for me. Instead I gravitate towards hiding elements and using "focus modes" for different mindsets, for example using the Typewriter plugin + hiding all UI elements other than my current note. I really appreciate how you articulate and explain the reasoning behind your setup, because even if our approaches differ it makes me think and articulate my reasoning which in turn deepens my understanding of why I prefer some things over others.

From the very beginning the only Obsidian theme that's really worked for me is the legacy theme Pisum. I believe "legacy" implies that it is no longer being developed/supported. A pity, since it struck me as such a warm, inviting place to work in from the moment I first installed it and has never lost its appeal. Pisum simply gets out of the way and lets my mind get lost in the content. But Soft Paper is a new fave. Thanks.

Nice. Thanks for this. I'm using the dark version of the theme and that required tweaking the colors a bit. But I found a good combo and really like it. About the New York font -- it is pretty sweet, but doesn't work well outside of the apple-verse. When I copied the fonts to Linux they did not render well at all (very thin). But on my system there was a font called Noto Serif and I found that works will. But how to get a shared vault to work across macOS and Linux? You can specify multiple fonts in the settings. Changing the Font Family settings for Live Preview and Reading modes to: "New York","Noto Serif" works great ... on my macOS it finds New York and uses it ... on my Linux system it doesn't find New York so it looks for Noto Serif, finds it, and uses it. Having said that, I don't think we are supposed to be using "New York" in this way. Looking at the license for that font, Apple says its use is restricted to making designs and mockups of products to be delivered on Apple devices; it is not licensed for general use. That said, you can probably get away with it for personal use, but there are plenty of quite good serif fonts out there that you can use instead. So I'll be switching to a different serif font on macOS, real soon now.

I recently switched to the Border theme because it gives me the color that I want (colored headers, bold, italic, etc. which helps me when scanning long texts) as well as the focus and anti-distractions that I need: a highlighted center panel, auto-hiding buttons and tab bars, stuff like that. It replaced another theme whose functionality I liked - but I couldn't figure out how to change the background color, which actually gave it kind of a depressing vibe. I'll have to revisit this video though, because I want to think more about having multiple themes ready for different states of mind. Until now I would uninstall themes and plugins I don't need because it slows down start-up time (which affects my retention of quick/rough/fleeting notes). I've been avoiding relying on another app for that, but it looks like I'll have to keep it in my toolset.

I have been watching your videos for a few months now. Let me tell you in the two ways I know how, to be concise and not to bore you with a speech (although it may have been necessary). you are very good at explaining and the presentations you make are highly recommended, I wish I knew English in the most fluent way to understand at first the Obsiadian.md subject you deal with!!!!!

I like many parts of the Soft Paper styling. I do find that the "paper" is too dark for me. Which line of code is for the paper color? I would like to lighten it up. Thanks.

I installed your mods to AnuPpuccin and have been finding myself using it frequently. 🙂I appreciate the work you put into the mods and the video. I was wondering if you could help me make 3 changes to the light theme. I would like to make the milky overlay less, that is, more transparent. I'd also like to make the note text font a bit darker. Both of these would help my old eyes see things better. Is there a way to make these changes?

I can follow you better now that you are calming down. Personally, dark themes are much more chill than light themes. Is there some way that I could remove the overly flashy yellow in LYT dark view and highlight the folder that I am using without confusing yellow on other folders. I wish your LYT theme had more of the calm vibe. The over use of bright yellow bothers me the most in your LYT theme. A less vibrant color would help. Is there some way for me to use the style setting plugin to make that change?

It would be amazing to have Style Settings options for LYT Mode. That's beyond my abilities, but if someone out there magically wanted to help, that'd be pretty cool

The one teeny problem, if nobody has noticed, is that the first two folders seem to always have the same colour. Trying to modify them doesn't work too well either. Mauve and Lavender end up being the same, as do some others in the blue-green spectrum. Am I doing something wrong?

On Windows it is possible to install the font by opening the Apple Installer package in 7zip and then drilling down the actual font files (there are a whole bunch of them), extracting them, then selecting all fonts and right-clicking and "Install" or "Install for all users". However, the font does not look the same for me as it does on Nick's screen. Regular text appears much thinner and not comfortably readable, even when zoomed in. The font possibly needs different configuration on Windows, or as @harikrishnasuku has said, maybe a different font recommendation for Windows.

@@linkingyourthinking Regarding the font readability on Windows, I think I have solved that. If you change the font in Style Settings to "New York Small", or "New York Medium" (depending on preference) rather than "New York", then it looks much more like your setup Nick. This doesn't solve the switch back to default on Reading Mode though.
