this is a total grail i never knew i needed. I love that style, the rich, messy black and white like a Motherwell painting. the chipping paint makes it even better to me; it'll slowly reveal the patina underneath, making it never look the same for long. true art

Do those vints actually have the scratchy feel, or is it just the sound? It would be so wack if people paid for vint blacks and they weren't smooth, like just buy Hyperglides?
@shentobento1079
@shentobento1079 6 ай бұрын
Yes, I harvest vints and some are just that scratchy. Others are pretty smooth but so far I've never seen a batch of vints that don’t have some audible scratch. The reason one would buy vints over hyperglides is that they sound deeper and way more consistent.

Never been a fan of the Unikorn--just seems so generic. But this build, with that artisan Enter key... God damn.

will millmaxing the PCB work with the o-ring mounting? I was always under the impression that the force from the o-ring will pop the switches+plate off the PCB because the sockets aren't strong enough to hold the assembly together.
@adrian-yt4hc
@adrian-yt4hc 8 ай бұрын
If you use 3305, it should be fine. The 3305 are keyboard-spec, meaning that the tolerances are perfect. The lip of the millmax won’t lift the switch and the length of the millmax is the same length as the switch’s pins. Though, I’d recommend 5-pin switches for a stronger connection between the switch and the PCB compared to 3-pin switches.

@@adrian-yt4hcdoes it only work for 0305? i have some 3305 on hand.
@adrian-yt4hc
@adrian-yt4hc 8 ай бұрын
@@fallasleeq It depends on the board. I personally don't have much knowledge on the Unikorn's tolerances and clearances. However, I do know that the 3305 are keyboard-spec and should work with boards with strict tolerances. 0305 have longer legs which can restrict bottom-out travel distance. It can also lift your switch from the PCB a bit. These can be problematic if your keyboard is designed with strict bottom-out clearances. 7305 lift switches a little less than the 0305, but still lift them in general. However, they have short legs which is good. 3305 acts as if there's no millmax there. It's perfect and won't affect anything. I'd recommend researching Unikorn users who have tried the 3 different millmax sockets and see which fits best for you.

@@adrian-yt4hc I see. i'm actually asking for the navi60, which is another o-ring mount board. but i will see if i can get hold of some 3305 sockets. thanks so much for your help!
@ImOnMy116
@ImOnMy116 7 ай бұрын
@@fallasleeqI’ve used 0305 and 3305 mill max sockets both, I’d say either are fine for gummy o ring, even with a softer plate for most switches. I will say if you are using the specific combination of a soft plate, a higher durometer gummy o ring (say 70a), and 3 pin switches, you may have a crappier time with the gummy o ring getting in between your corner switches and PCB, but otherwise, you’re probably fine! Also highly highly recommend holding the sockets in place with tape and not switches, accidentally getting solder in a switch plugged into a millmax socket is the worst!

hi guys, hi Alex. I'm new to the keyboard world. Can someone please explain to me why do people usually use custom cable with a GX12 or GX16 connector in the middle of the cable? is usimg normal type A to C not good? Because recently I purchased a keyboard (Cloudline) and there is some delay when I type on it. The seller tell me to try different cable with GX12 connector instead of A to C cable that I have right now. Thank guys.

I could never see myself ever spending a single dollar on something I would never look at. That weight is as useless as a Fortnite skin. Yes, Unicorn boards are very nice, and I would spend the money on one. I would also pay for an automotive paint job with a badass paint like House of Color. But to custom paint a weight on the bottom of the board is nonsensical.
