Oh my goodness I love your version! I love the colour and the bodice skirt combination. As usual I'm so thrilled you found my videos helpful ☺️ and the hat! I have some similar 60s patterns and now I want to make one!

As a schoolgirl during the '60s and '70s, I sewed many of my dresses, skirts, and tops. One of my favorite pieces was an a-line swing dress, short sleeved, stitched up in a white "border print" complete with embroidered daisies around the hem. So chic! Much enjoying your foray into this period!

Your sewing machine is so cool! I had a chance to use a chainstitch machine once, not an antique one, and it was super-super-smooth. You successfully dodged the "put sleeves in wrong armhole" curse by not having sleeves 😉... and instead got struck with "sewn the skirt to the bodice backwards"!🌩 It's neat how three in a row of the Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pattern have chosen to make green dresses, but in different shades and fabric weights as well as the different choices made with the pattern itself. The dress and hat both look very comfortable! I like the cozy fuzzy look that brushing the wool achieved.

Love the fabric you chose for the dress, which came out really nice. The hat is a great touch to your overall complete 1960s outfit!

I really enjoy your videos! This dress came out so cute! For sewing fabrics that aren't slinky (light silks, rayons, some cottons and anything with stretch) you can usually get away without pinning before you sew. I've found that for fittings I can hand-baste in really large stitches faster than I can pin and then unpin, and I only pin seams for sewing if they're very curvy or the fabric is difficult to work with. It takes a little practice, but once you get used to it it's SO MUCH FASTER and a lot less annoying. I hope it helps you enjoy sewing more!

I love your Wilcox & Gibbs sewing machine. This has been my unicorn for several years now and I am so fortunate that one of my amazing friends is selling me one of hers 🥰😍❤ I love how your dress turned out.

Also, maybe it is not as historically accurate, but I feel like the slightly dropped waist looks super cute on this model and on you. It's a great silhouette~

This is so fun! I've really appreciated your detour into more modern vintage. And that moment you immediately lost your tape measure was too real it hurt! 😅I've only sewn one garment so far, but I feel like I learn so much from watching you and Claude and other costubers, just by osmosis - like a kid watching their grandmother sew. Even a mistake, like sewing the skirt in inside-out, can teach!

I love the dress! How cute! My sister and I just rescued an 1900 Sears treadle machine from the thrift store. She needs some love, but she has all her pieces and I can't wait until we've finished restoring her, so we can use her for sewing

I love the combination of the box pleat lining up with the bust darts and then the gathers to either side. I have to gather something down into a waist band today (really thin cotton lawn) and kind of want to do this combination now; it's like a mix of "clean" flat areas with poofy sections and it just looks so modern yet romantic at the same time.

I'm getting inverse ASMR watching you brush the knit - every hair on my body standing on end and cringing so badly I had to skip past it 🤣 The dress is just lovely both in style and the great fabric choice. Personally I tend to convert side zips to back zips (never mind the accuracy) because I find them more practical, but this looks great!

I didn't know you did so much to get your little sewing machine running again. Very well done, and I have a slight bit of envy. Pinning is pretty low on my list in terms of enjoying sewing. It did get a slight bump up once I saw Claude's method though. Great job on the dress, and I agree that all the pieces work well together.

This pattern of yours for a knitted dress looks awesome. Wish I had a knitting machine and that I learned more about computer coding so I could have been the one to come up first with a computer program which helps knitters design their own pattern. Then if most fashion houses start trying to sell all of us women skimpier above the waist dresses only in natural fibers to go with the way too many high heels they are often trying to sell to us women often in only a narrower set of sizing at higher prices too than for men then I would get to spend less instead for more fabric on my new dress too.

The problem I had long ago with 60s clothing was the close fitting underarms. I was in my teens then. You look fantastic.
@ClaudiaJasalavich
@ClaudiaJasalavich Жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree. I was in my early teens in the late 1960s. The tight underarm was especially present and annoying in dresses with long sleeves; the whole sleeve would be very close fitting. However, the dress shirt style blouses for my school uniform were not; they had a larger armseye with way more ease in the sleeves. When I was 13 my aunt taught me how to sew on a machine. She also showed me how to select and alter patterns to fit my body as I am tall with a long torso, long arms and very square shoulders. She used to make all of her own clothes. I still have the pattern for an A-line sundress that tied at the shoulders that she sewed for me and my younger sisters.

I used to be a product-oriented sewist. Then I tried hand sewing and realized I don't hate sewing, I hated my obnoxious 80's Singer machine...now I stab fabric so I don't stab people :) though I have come to enjoy my 1914 hand crank vibrating shuttle machine. I miss Gwen's Shenanigans, been a while since I've seen anything new from her. Very cute dress and hat, I'll have to try fluffing something out like that sometime.

Great job, the color and style really suit you. As a side note, I love that polka dot sweater you were wearing in the beginning SO much that I had to go back and find the episode when you knit it-oh, wait, it’s not there. Was the sweater a vintage find?😊

I really like the fact that you use your W&G for everything, with success. I have a hand crnaked W&G chain stitch machine, and currently I am not using it because I can't work out how to fix the tension issues that the machine has (helpful tips from anyone really appreciated). I wonder if you have had any trouble with the seams coming undone and completely unraveling? This seems to be something that people warn about, but the fact that you use it as an allrounder, gives me hope! Which stitch length do you mostly use? Kind regards from Ireland xx
