In regards to the biking outfit, could startching it make the fabric stiffer? I´ve heard that it´s used for knit bags, but I´m not sure about the limits of this technique. Mabye felting could help?

You should be able to safely lubricate plastic parts with plain candle wax if you think it will help. Very cute knitting toy, thanks for trying it so I don’t have to!

I’ve heard silicone spray and white lithium grease, depending on the parts that need lubrication.

Interesting, I'm knitting a 1980s pattern that looks remarkably similar to your mystery knit. Same stitch pattern, similar shape. If you don't find the original pattern that you're after I wonder if this one is similar enough to see what you're going for.

I feel eternally lucky that I found my first knitting machine (A Brother KX-350) at a thrift store that cleans out people's homes as a service. It was only 60 USD. Imagine my surprise when I went online to see that they often retail for 250-350 USD... used.

I would have loved receiving this. It may be sticking because it looks like it was dropped on the handle. If you felt so inclined you could take it apart and see what's going on. Maybe add some grease to the moving parts.

The 1890s bicycle project - I would stop with the dying and return all that yarn to stash. YOu can unravel it when you have a use for it.

Oh my goodness! I received this as a Christmas gift as a child, I haven’t thought about it in decades…I wasn’t 100% certain until you opened the instruction booklet and I saw the “fluffy bee” and of course the sound of the cranking after you started knitting with it! What a lovely jog for my old brain Oh the miles and miles of tubes I created…wonderful memories, thank you so much for doing this video

Thank you for sharing. It's always helpful to know that there are other makers in the same situation of having so many wips that have just insulted us and broken our hearts and we've had to like put them in time out for several years.

I have 2 Addi knitting machines, one small and one large - they work the same way as this but more stitches per round. There's also Sentro knitting machines but I've never used one of those myself

I have one of these from the late 90s (it was a Barbie branded one) and I've used it to make a ton of stuff over the years. They're very basic projects, but a couple of the things I love making with it are kid's scarves, headbands, and little knitted snowballs (for indoor snowball fights). I've always had issues using their little tensioner arm, and I use the hand that's holding the base of the machine steady to give some tension while I work. Now I'm off to eBay to find a copy of that book so I can try out some other things!

You may not need to make the tension so tight with the thicker yarn. Try undoing one of the tension twists.

As sad as it is, my thought is to start over on the bicycle outfit. In my opinion, it would be more disappointing to invest more time into it and it still not turn out, than starting over completely.🫠

This is not a CSM (circular sock machine), this IS a CKM,(circular knitting machine). Both are extremely different. Toy or not, it's a circular knitting machine.

The part that is kind of catching, you could look and see if anything may be loose or a piece of yarn may have got trapped. WD40 has been around for a long time, I would try that at the stalling part. 70's toys had lots of screws holding them together, unlike now days it's glue. Have fun

Do you have the date of the first edition of Vogue Knitting? I quickly searched the British Library Catalogue but there's just so many things that come up! I just googled "british library catalogue" and that sent me to the search page. I looked up Vogue knitting and it looked like it's at the Yorkshire site and would need to be requested - which is a whole thing on it's own but I wasn't sure if it was correct.

I was thinking of getting one of these for my niece since its 16 pins and the tubes will fit her Barbies. I tried teaching her to knit on my Sentro 48 but it overwhelmed her. The KnitMagic will be a better choice

ermagerd I have this very same machine (somewhere, lol) but I didn't use it much as I didn't like the projects in the booklet; P is for Panel (flat). and there should be a hole for the needle to fit into somewhere on the top surface I expect the catching may be a result of the machine being dropped? since the crank has parts missing off it (mine is basically in mint condition) to hold the machine down, try putting your forearm on the left side top and your hand on the right side top (so the motion of the working part won't be affected)

Knitting machines are an exact meeting point between my love of fiber crafts and my hate of repetitive tedium. I'm eager to get equipped and see how I enjoy crafting ambitious projects with the help of machines to take much of the workload for me.

I had this. My mom almost certainly bought it used since I had it in the early 1980's. I made the bee and I still have it. I also made the doll dress. I think it broke because it's not around anymore and we never threw out anything that worked.

when you said the number 7 and these mathmatical wonders. it made me think of the pleiades a star cluster know as the seven sisters. i know it means something. just what i dont know. i would imagine a weaver and knitter etc would probably already know or be very close to knowing. when i was in high school we had an astronomy thing it was a dome shaped lace where the stars looked like they were in the sky at night. i cant remember what the building is called.
