A Dangerous Meeting - Mercyful Fate [Bass Playthrough by Becky Baldwin]

This is a deceptive bassline that can show the true skills of a player. It starts off sounding very simple, with a steady groove on the open E string, broken up by a few melodic motifs. But much like the other songs in the ‪@MercyfulFateOfficial‬ catalogue, there is a lot more to it once you look and listen more closely. We have bar lengths changing throughout, melodic details appearing in different areas of verses, huge tempo changes and a rapid tremolo of E that needs to be kept consistent. And I know I'm not alone in saying this - sometimes the basslines that seem the most simple require the most concentration. Just the steady syncopated groove on the low E needs care and attention to sound consistent and correct in it's dynamics and note length every time, while keeping locked in with the other members. So this is a great one to try, at any level of playing.

Uh oh, is there another tour coming? 🔥 Becky, if you’re reading this I am from southern Ontario (Canada), I worked overtime, fell asleep with food on the stove, woke up to my “dinner” in flames on my stove, put out the fire, opened all the windows; apologized to the landlord but I had a train to catch! I left shortly after 05:45, got to Toronto on time on take the next train to Montreal, walked up the Mount Royal stairs, caught the bus to Laval, and made it to the venue 30 mins before doors opened without a ticket and had no idea you were the bassist…. Best show I have seen on a tour since I saw Slayer/Pantera/Morbid Angel/static-X back in the early 2000’s. Next time do a show in Toronto so I don’t almost cremate myself!

Nice. You have an interesting plucking technique how you keep your ring finger extended and sometimes actually on top of your middle finger. I haven't seen that before. Enjoyed the video.
