Omg the young girl talking about her grandad 😢. She has such a positive outlook. She should become a nurse or work in aged care.

Rule #1 when training- never forget where you came from. Its easy to forget that most people on their first day are seeing everything for the first time. From attitudes to procedures - its overwhelming. Being complacent and assuming they know more than nothing can be the difference between someone staying in the role or leaving. Always be the best possible example of the role you can be with empathy.

The beautiful young lady who cared for her grandfather is a breath of fresh air. You don’t see that that too much in the US. Too wrapped up in social media and themselves. Our elderly are treasures and should be treated as such.

When I had a lumpectomy and also, lymph nodes removed, it was done on an out-pt. basis, and I was sent home the same day. If someone sat me on a bed, it didn't stop me from laying down. I was at home on self-care. Tylenol-3, if needed, for pain.

I just spent 14 hours stuck on a trolley in A+E due to lung disease. I was brought in after being unable to breathe, I was seen by a Doctor pretty quick, but then I was left on a trolley in a cubicle for 13 hours. Nobody checked on me, I had to get off the trolley and find my own way to the toilet and back, no nurse checked in on me during the whole time I was there, I had no food or water. I was totally neglected. I know they were busy but fucksake they didn't even bother to ask if I needed a drink of water in 13 hours. Not impressed.

My aunt entered a private hospital to have her breast removed, paid top dollar out of pocket expenses over and above her private insurance. The woman in her small ward dying of bowel cancer smelt so bad it made my aunt retch uncontrollably, full of stitches post op, etc and she asked if they would move her into the corridor while they cleaned up the dying patient so she could rest from the retching and pain. They sat her on a bed in the last far away room in the corridor and left her there for 3 hours, never came back to lay her down. When someone heard her calling and crying in pain, they told her off for making a noise and being ‘entitled’. The next day her husband started complaining about the treatment she was handed and the matron and hospital manager came to her room to apologise for the nursing treatment. Not good enough! That nurse went out of her way to isolate her and cause her pain and suffering.

i understand the frustration, it is rlly frustrating when your waiting for ages abs it feels like your just pushed to the side. i remember being in all night for them to give me some crutches and sent home. but on the other hand we have to realise they are human too, it’s very stressful, and we don’t always see the behind the scenes and what’s going on everywhere else in the hospital, without sounds harsh, sometimes there’s more important issues at hand. but i do understand your fustration, don’t take this comment as a dig at you, i just think sometimes as patients we forget what goes on behind the scenes what what else might be going on.

Good morning dear soul. My daughter has Autoimmune. They take excellent care of her in Canada. She's actually seeing the rheumatologist this week I believe. I am from South Africa. What you hear is not nearly as bad as it is. I am sickly as well. Things are grave. Her husband doesn't accept me. Giselle is not allowed to have any contact with me. But we speak when he's at work.

Having been in A/E twice, both times it’s stunning just how many people are there, you have to think ‘ what the heck has everybody been doing’😵‍💫. It feels like the world and his wife has turned up. Crazy.not the least surprised those on trolleys are sometimes left for a long time. My A/E is so small the only place to put you ,if your on a trolley but sitting up and taking notice ( I’d bust my knee ligament) I sat and watch the trolleys being moved about like a game, interesting, they did come back to me when they’d time checking. It’s good grumbling they’re doing their best with she’d loads of people . Don’t forget When a real! Seriously injured or sick person arrives on blue lights they OF COURSE must be seen to FIRST , I’m just glad it wasn’t me. Just hope your not there at night at weekend when all the drunks roll in🙄😳, they should put a holding station outside with camp beds in and put them in there till they sober up and finish being sick, save ,in some cases , the violence too. )

Looking at the seniors in the A & E, we could do with a Geriatric Hospital where staff specialise in elderly care. They look so lost and lonely a lot of the time. We are getting more and more seniors as the baby boomers have reached 65 and older. When my mother died it was a big shock to my father when he had to cook and do the house work, which my mother always did. The only thing my Dad could make when my mum was alive was a pot of Tea.

The elderly couple grousing about the apparent delay in being seen fail to realize there are trauma patients they don’t see coming in. The waiting room might be nearly empty but the staff could very well be swamped. In another context they would be a mated pair of Karens.
