That day was a proper scorcher! All the wildlife had the right idea in hiding away, unfortunately for us. Still, you got some good shots of everything we did see. Except those sneaky Kingfishers!

Hickling Broad! My dad made sure were were Swallows and Amazons/Coot Club kids, and so I'd say we have a soft spot for Hickling Broad, but it's more accurate to say my dad, and those books, set us up to have a soft spot for nature for life. I remember seeing barn owls and hearing bitterns from all sorts of hides and in all sorts of reserves across Norfolk and Suffolk. I saw my first ever chaffinch at Minsmere nature reserve when I was very young, before they were as widespread as they are now (now we have some in my local park, in the northern part of the UK!) It's been so long since we were there, but I'm almost certain I still recognize the hides along your walk. This is such a lovely reminder of memories that have stuck with me my whole life, and a fantastic chronicle of your time there. Thank you for sharing it with us all ♥

Hi Liam, you’re really blessed with some amazing wildlife sites in Norfolk. I look forward to the Lapwing video, they have always been a favourite bird of mine. I saw a single Lapwing this evening, walking round the local fields, a very pleasant surprise as they are thin on the ground here in the Chilterns, and this was the first I have seen in several years.

What a handsome bunch 😂 stock Doves & lapwings my two favourites. Looking forward to the lapwing video Liam and really enjoyed this one. I was lucky once to have a long weekend stay in a Martello Tower in Suffolk. The sun rises were fantastic but I always remember watching the lapwings doing acrobatics in flight together which I assumed was courtship. We could also see hares warming up in the early morning sun. So beautiful the coastline there and in Norfolk to . Great skies and light. ❤

Enjoyed your outing! I do the same in Oklahoma, both a birder and a naturalist. So many of your birds are similar to here but are a different species within that particular family.

Yet again another informative vid Liam. The common cranes and buzzards were particularly good. What I do need is a book on dragon fly’s, may fly’s etc. So is there a book that you would recommend.

Excellent video, Hickling is on my list of places to visit. And always good to see Graham's face lol! You dragonfly ID was spot on by the way, except for the 1st "ruddy darter" which was actually a Common Darter - the best way to tell the difference is the Common Darter has pale stripes down the legs and the Ruddy Darter has completely black legs :)

Yes, Canada Geese are fairly common here in the UK. Strangely though, ours seem to be quite passive and nowhere near as aggressive as the "cobra chickens" they're often portrayed to be in American wildlife videos.

Hi Liam, a traumatic wildlife experience today, going down the lane, my husband trod on the side of a slow worm, it look as though it was injured anyway - you never see slow worms in the middle of paths here. I felt so bad for it and moved it over to the verge, I think it was too far up for it to lose it’s tail. When I see things like this I always try to consider the benefits gained for another critter to find it - critters have to eat too! Same thing during the Summer here with Hobbies - the baby sparrows are really cute and then there is an exocet missile - they are so swift and deadly!

Another good vlog, Liam, from Hickling Broad, on a glorious day. Particularly liked the cranes and the buzzard. Did well to get on film, what you did, on a really hot day! Well done. Very impressed not wearing a cap, for I'd need to, on my bald head! Don't worry about having to buzz off, you'll hopefully buzz back real soon! You'll get film of adders and kingfishers in the future, I've every confidence! Finally, were very brave being so near the hornets! 👍

I always say stock doves are the ghosts of wood pigeons because they look like spooky, less alive versions lol Also I had the privilege of seeing a dragonfly laying her eggs this year. I wasn't sure what I was seeing at first, it was a very strange sight. She was laying in a shallow drainage stream, hovering maybe 30cm above the surface and dipping down with her tail into the water before lifting back up to her previous height. The action were as if she was on an elastic. We watched as she done perhaps 10 dips and then flew off.
@AShotOfWildlife Жыл бұрын
Haha, I dont think I have ever thought of stock doves as that but each to their own. Lucky you, its quite an interesting process and something I have been lucky enough to see and film this summer, but that footage hasnt made it into a video yet but I am sure it will some day. Thanks for watching!

I suspect from your description that it may have been a Damselfly - like a dragonfly but smaller, and brightly coloured ? (They also come in a bright "electric blue")

Oh gosh I really hate wasps (or anything that stings you) they keep chasing me or hovering around me. And coming into the house and going near me. I’ve never seen a crane bird before. Only herons z as if for me they are hard to spot. When ever I see a new animal I either get exited or a bit spooked. But Liam Handels any wildlife like a pro :)
