Thank you so much for this beautiful memory. I grew up in Lubec in the 1960s and lived downtown right across from where the boat ramp is now, although the house is no longer there. There used to be a car ferry to Campobello before the bridge was built and that's where the ferry came in. The American customs office was there, too, on the end of the street. As a little girl I used to sit on the sidewalk and watch all the cars lined up all along front street (Water Street) waiting their turn to go across to Campobello. Sometimes the people in the cars would come over and talk to me to pass the time. They made a movie called Sunrise at Campobello about Franklin Roosevelt and his family who owned a summer home on Campobello. I can remember a big fancy convertible waiting in line one day, and Mama sent me over with a piece of paper to get an autograph. I didn't know who he was, but Mama said it was Ralph Bellamy, who played President Roosevelt in the movie. I remember he was very nice and gave me his autograph. I still have the autograph after all these years. I can also remember when they built the bridge, it was quite an event, crowds of people were lined up all along the bridge. If I remember right, Mama said Mrs Roosevelt was there, but I didn't see her. But I remember her son did cut the ribbon. I could go on forever with all the wonderful memories I have of Lubec. I feel very lucky to have been able to grow up there at such a wonderful time. Thank you so much Sergey for putting this beautiful video out for everyone to see and appreciate my home town!

I remember you. Do you remember when the Seaboard factory burned?The boat ramp is there now,sitting on top of the ruins of that factory. I also remember the ferry to Campobello island.

I remember the car ferry. Mama took me and my brother on it once. My brother got seasick. Those were the good old days. Times were rough,but way better than today. I can still remember standing there,in line with my brother and mama, waiting for the government food.

This short film is lovely, with just the soundtrack of the birds, water, breezes, cars, distant laughter and small town noises. Makes the film 1,000 times more enjoyable and appreciated.

Great video. I lived in Lubec for 15 years. I am originally from American Sāmoa and grew up in a village called Leloaloa. Beautiful place. Lived in Hawai’i, California, New York, South Korea, Germany, Japan, then settled in Maine and now I am back in Hawai’i. All of these places are dear to me, but my two favorite places would be Leloaloa, American Sāmoa and Lubec, Maine. Much love to my friends in Maine. I will be back to visit for the 4th of July!!!

@Sergey Mishenev I lived right there in town. The inn and pub,across from Cahills (used to be tips restaurant. I know all the history. I was living there when the Seaboard Factory burned. I remember helping fight the fire at the movie hall. I remember when the post office burned. I remember when they paved Water street. I remember when they built, and dedicated the bridge to Campobello. All of it. I got my first job at Factory B.,which is now a motel. I'd love to be able to come down there and chat with the townspeople about all that. Those were the good old days. Imagine, An evening of Lubec History,told in first person singular. What a tourist magnet that would be.

There are ravens and crows in Lubec. They are friendly and entertaining. Bring dry cat food to feed them.

Mark, where exactly would you recommend to feed them? What part of town would it be easier to spot ravens at?
@markpreston69302 жыл бұрын
@ At the dock of the old sardine factory, which is a restaurant and hotel, and at the 'furthest east' marker. They also are at the cemetery next to Family Dollar.

Southern Maine has a lot of great places too. Lubec is very special though, I agree with that. Perhaps its remoteness is the key.
