hi! this may seem like a weird question but how’s your work culture? do you get to interact with other coworkers/people throughout the day or is it a pretty independent job?
@urfriendamanda2 жыл бұрын
love this question! company culture is so important and something that I value as a new professional. due to covid, lots of the employees that were usually in-person are now remote, so I only get to interact physically with a few coworkers, the rest are all through video calls. my job in general is quite collaborative but my team is all over the place throughout the US so even though I am by myself in the lab for now I have a great support system remotely!

Hi! I am currently a QA chemistry working for a year but am considering going into Cosmetic Chemistry! I have my bachelors in just Chemistry. Most positions I see require experience in formulation or a background in cosmetics, do you think this is a major preference?- I was also looking at maybe doing my masters in cosmetic but wondering if that will make huge difference in moving up in the field?

Hi! I have reached out to a couple makeup chemists, and haven't heard back, so my search continues lol. Im looking to create a liquid binder to help press my broken eyeshadows. The popular one at the moment is the Fixy spray... But it literally consists of two products. The ingredients are isopropyl alcohol and cyclomethicone. I don't want to ruin any shadows if possible so figured I'd come to you to ask your opinion! ❤️ Do you think using alcohol and cyclomethicone is a good option, or isopropyl Myristate? Or am I crazy and should use something else? Annnnd last question... Any idea on the ratio I should use? I plan on filling up at least a 2 ounce bottle with whatever mixture I decide to use. Any help would be amazing!! ❤️

@urfriendamanda2 жыл бұрын
Exciting!! Gayathri's right I attend the University of Cincinnati's MS in cosmetic science which is an online program. The University of Toledo has an undergrad in Cosmetic Science and Formulation and Design which I graduated from and I know that both Rutgers and Fairleigh Dickinson University has master's programs for cosmetic science! Hope this helps!
@jieunhong39742 жыл бұрын
@@urfriendamanda thanks for the reply! Some follow-up questions I have : How do you get a job if you are not done with the master's program? Is that because you did cosmetic science as your major during undergrad? I'm just trying to see if I can get a cosmetic chemist job during the University of Cincinnati master program even if I don't have a cosmetic science bachelor's degree. Do you think there are a good amount of jobs out there as a cosmetic chemist in Northern California VS southern California? Can you recommend companies in North Cali? (I did my undergrad major as Molecular Environmental Biology a few years ago and also am an international student who needs work visa sponsorship from the cosmetic company if I happen to work at one. I'm Korean and would like to work in beauty industry of Korean and USA, becoming a connecting bridge.)
@jieunhong39742 жыл бұрын
@@urfriendamanda two more questions to ask if you don't mind answering them : how much does the University of Cincinnati MS in cosmetic science program focus on color cosmetics such as formulating liquid foundation / complexion products, lipsticks, eyeshadows, hair dye, colorful eyeliner, some colorful mascara or eyebrow products, etc? I know there's color cosmetic elective, but that was about it. I am more interesting in creating color makeup products more than skin care products. Is there a way I can work at a job that focuses on making color products after I finish this ms program or have you seen a case likewise? (Please understand me bombarding you with questions : literally, you are the only person to ask about these)
@urfriendamanda2 жыл бұрын
@@jieunhong3974 These are all amazing questions! You don't need a master's degree to become a cosmetic chemists, I think that most chemists (regardless if you majored in cosmetic science or not) get a job right out of undergrad and end up doing just fine. The UC program is designed for those who are already working and is quite refutable so if anything just starting the program could increase your changes of landing a great job! There are plenty of cosmetic related jobs in California as a whole but I think that most of them are in SoCal since there is a greater cluster of companies here. I'd be happy to dm you on insta with some companies/ contacts I know in the NorCal area! I haven't taken any color cosmetic classes at UC but I think you're right that there is only an elective course. I think you might also be able to do your capstone project on color if you'd like as well. The program should be able to benefit you when you look for a job regardless if it's a color position or skincare. Feel free to dm me with any more questions and I hope this helps!

Hi, so are cosmetic chemists always paid well in general? And I've being finding it hard to decide what to major in , chemistry,pharmacy..... I heard studying chemistry can be very hard .
@urfriendamanda2 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on what you consider "well"! Different states/ major cities have different salary averages for cosmetic chemists so I am lucky to be in an area that offers a little bit higher of a salary than the rest of the US. For entry level I think that the average in the US is around 50-65k which is a really wide range but it is more relative to cost of living. Studying chemistry/chemE is most common for cosmetic chemists but I think pharmacy is a great option as well (i earned a BS in pharmaceutical sciences) especially if chemistry is a harder subject for you! Ofc the best major in my opinion is Cosmetic Science and Formulation Design from UToledo because that teaches you so much about cosmetic formulation and gets you well prepared for a career in the cosmetic industry!
