This is... I don't know. It's difficult to express why this irks me. There is just so much *wealth* evident in this lifestyle. Though I'm sure you are faithfully representing your experience, it inadvertently underscores academic elitism. "We took the students to dinner at Barcelona..." Meanwhile, the biology department at my university can barely afford to take the ecology students on a field trip. Most of the nation's students are living on instant noodles and fear of their loans coming due. Seems like Yale could really afford to "trim the fat" in its budget and invest in community education... That is, if it was really committed to limiting barriers to access.

@@CeceXie That doesn't make it any better. You have the ability to spend what I approximate to be $1500 in a single day, and yet it seems that you only actively worked about two or three hours. Based on this 'snapshot,' your salary far exceeds your deliverables. If you can afford this extremely privileged lifestyle on a Yale salary, it's necessary to question the university's priorities. Because this surely isn't "limiting barriers to access." It's constructing them.

@@CeceXie people respond negatively to videos like this because you’re rich and privileged, there’s nothing more to it. You don’t have to apologize for it and no one is asking you to… …But also realize that you open yourself up to a world of endemic angst when you post these things…when you show and tell your comfy job, with no motive or message… Of course it isn’t all rainbows and uNicorns, and we know you worked hard to get where you are…but this is what happens when we only show the highlights…your ”greatest hits” so to speak. And frankly, nobody wants to see this because it’s triggering, and reminds people of what they don’t have, where they aren’t in life, and how far away they are from reaching their aspirations. People are socially and emotionally dead and fueling themselves on content like this. It’s actually disgusting! We don’t realize that we are fueling our dissatisfaction by consuming content like this. Don’t be angry at us plebeians…the peasants can’t help it. Envy is as natural of an emotion as your need for validation is. It’s why I don’t blame you for posting this video. And sure you can chalk it up to jealousy or people lacking work ethic…but the envy, the anger, the ANGST…is rooted in something far deeper, and more existential than simply wanting what you have……… This culture of social media we engage in …that you get to mask as an innocent show and tell, is the opium of today’s society. …a constant feedback loop of empty, social posturing. None of these strangers are happy or proud of you. They only consume your Content to live vicariously through you. They are projecting their desires on you, Nothing more. You don’t know ANYONE explanation for what you have or the life you live….but don’t think you’re doing the world a favor or be shocked with negative reactions…when you open the door to people who do not know you or have your best interest at heart.

Coffee in NY is probably close to $6. I daresay lunch probably costs $15-$25, and dinner $30-$50 per person, depending on the selection. (Not to mention that they took the class out to dinner... I don't know if that came out of the university's pocketbook or not.) Lastly, for cocktails, that's probably a $10-$20 dollar charge for one drink alone. Conservatively, without accounting for the cost of transportation, that's $60 spent. A more reasonable calculation would place the day's spending at $80. So yeah. If this is "a day in the life," that's more than $400 spent weekly on only out-of-home dining.
