thank you for this video! I feel like many language learners can relate to the struggles you were experiencing... honestly for me it is very encouraging because as a real normal person learning and studying languages I can relate to you more than some polyglots who just seem like super genius which can be at times inspirational and at other times discouraging when you are feeling down about your progress. stay strong you are doing very well. and In boca al Lupo! So when I watched your video, I felt understood and I just wanted to tell you that it is a natural process of language learning, you should be proud of yourself. You are learning a whole different language! Andiamo avanti, Shea! Sei una grande ispirazione! Love u.

I remember when I went to Italy... I spoke in Spanish and they spoke in Italian and we understood each other all right 🙈 it's kinda fun to watch without reading the subtitles and see how much I can understand. Congrats on making these videos, I don't doubt they'll help a lot with your confidence on oral expression.

This video was very helpful for me. I am currently living with a host family in italy and have been here for 3 months. I didn’t know a single word when i got here and now I am able to understand most things but when it comes to me having to talk and say things it’s very hard and i get anxious to mess up. It was reassuring to hear you say that speaking is very hard. Best of luck with you italian!

Shea, don't sweat it. Any amount that practice speaking in any format (making at video only in Italian, talking with your tutor on iTalkie, or with language partners on Tandem) will help you. It's like your workout. You push yourself and you feel sore. The next time you will be stronger and have more endurance. You're doing great. Continua così. Ciao.

I feel the same way when it comes to speaking, I understand a lot of people even though I feel like I can't speak as I want, so no matter what language is, everything is a long journey, and I wholeheartedly believe that many learners are the same page because it is so frustrating to know that you understand them but you feel overwhelmed not to speak as one wants. However, you are on the right track, just keep up the wonderful job, and then time will tell. So thank you ever so much, Shea, for sharing this amazing video. I needed something like that.

This video really resonated with me Shea. Especially the part about feeling stuck and frustrated. I have been actively studying French for about two years and I often can't form sentences simply because I don't know the correct word. I had an iTalki lesson with my French tutor yesterday so this video was right on time! I don't understand how I forget everything in French as soon as it is time for my lesson! My tutor deserves a medal for her patience! LOL Thank you for being a realistic, authentic language learning KZbinr.

I can relate to you so much with understanding spoken Italian but having a mental block when trying to speak. I read the book altre parole and the author writes exactly about this. You are doing so well! Don’t feel discouraged. My tutor just says to me it’s just about picking up more vocab now and putting in the hours. We can converse but we are expecting to converse in Italian intelligently like university graduates yet we still only have learnt grammar for school aged children. It all takes time. Maybe take a few days off Italian to reset yourself. 💕🇮🇹🌟

It's hard!". Quindi non mollare, sei già bravissima!

I understand your frustration and that's a good sign as to what you need to work on. If you know what you want to say and don't know how to say it, then that's where your area of focus is, so don't study harder, study smarter! When I was in AP French my senior year after skipping 2 levels I had the same type of brain fatigue since at that level, nothing's in English anymore. I loved the language and culture, but it was tiring! I also believe that it doesn't matter how many years of a language you learn, you're still going to encounter language barriers. I've been studying German as my fourth language for the last 4 years and I got my certificate that says I'm at B1 a few months before I got here. After moving to German as an Au Pair 2 months ago, I still have problems with the language because my host dad speaks fast and slurs his words together to the point where I can't understand every word. My Au Pair kids don't speak clearly and in a baby-like tone (even though they're only 4). I had difficulties understanding them to the point where the parents were translating their "kid german" into clearly comprehensible German. It gets better when you're there and immersed in it because after a while they say something and I don't even need to translate. I'm like "ok got it". I know this is a really long comment, but if it helps, I wrote a blog post sharing my challenges in language learning. www.languageandpeople.org/blog/the-hardest-parts-of-mastering-a-language

Hey Shea! I can really see the frustration on your face during the whole video. But as a person who speaks 5 languages, I could only recommend this to you. First, to improve your speaking, you need immerse yourself with active listening. READING NOT REALLY HELPING! The language they use in writing is different in speaking. Just listen to conversations, or cut out some clips from Netflix or KZbin and then copy their conversational style. I'm learning Spanish now, and I also do that. Its a lot of work to do, but it really helps when I talk to Spanish speaking people. Monologue also won't help a lot, but conversation do! Final thing, speaking isnt necessary! We can see many introverts who don't talk a lot. Put yourself in their shoes when it comes to learning new language. So NEVER GIVE UP!!! GOOD LUCK

The (not so) fun part of the Italian business language is that people have this wicked tendency to use foreign words instead of our native ones to make things sounds cool/exotic. So instead of "riunione", mangers use "meeting". Or "kickoff meeting" instead of "riunione d'apertura". And so on... It's saddening for various reason. First and foremost, most of the managers usually don't know how words are spelled or pronounced (lol). Secondly, we are degrading our own language as if it's not worth it. Unfortunately that's a common trend in both the work and the media enviroment. Anyway, keep up the good work. Honestly speaking, after 2 yrs of learning I think you're way ahead of where you're supposed to be. If you feel stuck in "speaking", well, that's always the hardest part to get. And if you're willing to keep learning you'll feel forever dissatisfied with the point you've reached ... at least, that's what I've been experiencing since moving to a USA controlled company where I'm required to speak English on a daily basis

What a nice video! Thanks to the author of the channel for this fascinating video! It is interesting to see how people live in other countries! It is very important to know foreign languages on such trips. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!
