My life in Tamale, Ghana is a mix of western and local living. This is a day of running errands and figuring out where to get things. A bit of daily life in Ghana.
The center of Tamale is fairly compact so once I arrive in town it's all pretty easy, sort of. I explain in the video. You'll see. The mix of western and African lifestyles is a defining characteristic of my expat life in Ghana.

Really enjoyed this video. It sort of reminded me of Umuahia in Eastern Nigeria although I was there some 60 years ago. The roads are wider and the cars are fancier and move faster but the hustle and bustle of the markets, the colourful traditional clothes and the friendly people took me right back. Thanks for that.

So cool! A lot of people mention how Northern Ghana has a lot in common with Nigeria. Tamale is at a very exciting mix between modern and traditional worlds. Sometimes I wish they had a little more modern, but I don't want them to lose the culture and traditions that make this place special. Really glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.

But it's a dry heat 😁. Really, it's not that bad most of the time. To avoid the worst heat, avoid coming in March/April. However, rainy season is very comfortable temperature-wise, about July-October. The rest of the time is kinda hot but tolerable. I love Tamale and highly recommend a visit. @@ThisGalTravels And you've been able to adapt this quickly? Or have you lived for about a decade
@ThisGalTravels
@ThisGalTravels 5 ай бұрын
@@aureliusmarkus9139 definitely not a decade. Seriously, Ghanaians are very friendly and accepting and it's easy to get along here. The level of comfort you see here happened in just a month or two. You do need to let go of some western ideas of how things should be done. I've been traveling for so long that was pretty easy for me. Early on there were occasional frustrations, but they were minor. In Ghana there is so much less stress it is easy to accept a more relaxed life. But it's really the people here that make it great. I will note that this is actually my third time in Ghana, but I don't think that would have made a big difference to my adaptation time. As I said, the people are very welcoming and it's easy to make friends. If you visit, you'll see what I mean. Ghana will welcome you, too.

Malarone tablets?? Is Standby treatment the best way to go or is it best to take the pills as a prophylactic Side effects??
@ThisGalTravels
@ThisGalTravels 7 ай бұрын
Good question. I'm not fond of the side effects of any of the preventative medicines, especially since I'm here long term, so I don't take them. Now that I've had malaria, it's not that scary. It's just like a bad flu. If I were going to be far away from medical care for an extended period, I might consider a prophylactic. But here in Tamale I can get tested at the pharmacy, results in 30 minutes and drugs to cure it. There can be complications and it can turn deadly (just like the flu), but that rarely happens to healthy people with strong immune systems.
@ParkourFrederik
@ParkourFrederik 7 ай бұрын
@@ThisGalTravels Alright Yes, I'm going there for two months (Accra) in the dry season, and I don't see why I should take the preventative medicine. If I feel nauseous/ feverous I will immediately head to the hospital to check and see. I have consulted my doctor and he says I should take the malarone pills. That's why I'm conflicted .. Thanks for the answer
@ThisGalTravels
@ThisGalTravels 7 ай бұрын
@@ParkourFrederik Yeah, you've got to make your own call. One thing I found out is that even things you don't think of as malaria symptoms, like diarrhea, can be a symptom. I learned this from locals. The trick is not to shrug off feeling icky. The earlier you detect and treat it, the milder the symptoms. Also, you can get a couple of test kits to take home with you. That way, if you have any suspicions you can check for yourself before heading to the doctor. I do have a video from when I got malaria, if you're interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2W7o6epnbF1ftk

Why do you want to lie? Look at your slave mentality. Are you the only person who has been living in the US? Everyone knows that, living in the US is more stressful than living in Ghana with all the peace we enjoy. Because she is very real, see how she is enjoying in even Tamale far away from Accra and Kumasi as the big cities in Ghana. Renew your mind about Ghana or Africa to be objective and allow her to enjoy Ghana...🇬🇭 Go Gal, don't mind him. Ghana loves you.
