a day in our life abroad: americans living in Italy *remotely* working

hope you guys enjoy this weekday day in our life living temporarily abroad in Italy. we’ve been in the country for nearly 2 months so far, and are just about to move on, so thought it would be fun to share with you a glimpse of what a typical day in our life here has been like. just some bits of life working remotely (on new york time 💀), temporarily homeschooling, and just getting a taste of what daily life might be like if we ever moved abroad long-term. we have seriously loved our time here but we honestly had/have no strict plans or expectations for this life other than to live it and soak up every moment of new experience. truly humbled by this life experience, and can’t wait to continue working on the language and come back again in the near future just that much better 💓

The real question is if Americans or Brits can work remotely in Italy permanently without getting involved in pointless time-wasting bureaucracy? Italy unfortunately isn't open to remote working (Italian companies and figetti bosses still have the "hawks watching over blue collars" old industrial style of working and they prefer it to remain this way. In Italy one can't argue with tradition. There is another country that's more evolved and that is the North of Italy. There are loads of jobs in technology and employers there are open to working remotely.

Yes this place was definitely bigger than our place in nyc haha. Travel in Italy in general has been so expensive…we prefer to stay out in suburbs to cut down on cost a little but still expensive. The place we’re staying now is much cheaper 😌
