A Day in the Forest with Maine Coons Buster & Luna!

So nice to see the dynamic feline duo enjoying a day in the great outdoors , with their dad. Buster and Luna are both intrepid feline explorers, and so entertaining to see having a fun trek in the forest. Buster is quite the character off leash, but always checks up on Luna, during their forest walk. Always a treat to watch the both of them communing with nature. What a nice treat for Luna. She looks so sleek. She gets to get out & about for awhile & relax a little smelling this & that. I noticed she scratched at a few trees ( marking territory? ) which I have not noticed Buster ever doing. Maybe I just missed him doing that. I did notice him checking in on her occasionally to see how she was getting along.

I wish my cats had trees like that to scratch! That had to feel good. My cats do like the cardboard scratchers but not the sisal ones. Though some cats do, they just totally shred them. 😂 So love seeing Luna enjoying her day. It's actually probably a good thing you need to keep her on her leash, imagine having to keep an eye on both of them running free. Though it looked like Buster was enjoying taking liberties with it. Thanks for the video. I can't remember if you've taken Dexter out. I know you've taken both Freya and Ada out. Takes lots of training to do, but thankfully you have such beautiful areas to take them to. It wasn't until watching the live video that I realized I haven't watched any of the videos before the birth of Luna's first litter. You mentioned taking Buster to a castle amongst other places. My friend, you deserve so much more subscribers! Beautiful videos and what a beautiful place you live and dwell in! And yes, admittedly, I am a little bit jealous of you 😅 I love how Buster takes the treat and hardly even chews, just swallows! 🤣 Luna seems to be getting a bit more comfortable in the Great Outdoors, although still sometimes refusing the treat. Buster is being such a very good companion, though! I love how they interact and how Buster is being supportive of Luna! ​@@Maine_Coon_Adventures It's a GREAT job, which I rolled into after I retired from the military. okay, a quick summary of my post-military career: As a combat recon communications specialist, I loved the deployments, traveling to different countries, and being out in the field "setting up shop" for long periods of time, with nothing but myself and my supplies 😊 There were (very) exciting & dangerous times, but also times of extreme serene silence in the nights, almost bordering on spiritual enlightenment, as I sat alone under the stars with nothing but my thoughts. It's absolutely amazing how an environment so dangerous can also be so very beautiful... Those down times really helped me cope with some of the less nice parts of being a soldier. I think, in a way, this is also why I like your videos so much! Being out there, in nature, is in and of itself very rewarding. Especially if you can share like you do, with your best little friends! 👍 So, due to my tasks, I was already used to long term observations. And coincidentally, Ethology actually has quite a few of the same disciplines, minus the armed combat 😅 For those that don't know, in a nutshell, Ethology is the study of wild animals in their natural habitat, with a focus on behavioral patterns. We usually work both in the field, as well as in an office / laboratory. My time is split between about 60% outdoors and 40% indoors. It's a very nice balance. When I left the military in 2004, I went on to study at University for 4 years, ultimately specializing in Predation (the biological act of preying and killing), with a main focus on Obligate Carnivores, and specifically Apex Felines (top of the food chain cats, such as Jaguars, Lions, Tigers, and Leopards). I just love cats, big and small, so for me that was an easy choice 😉 Anyway, after my studies, I went on to do a lot of in the field projects, observing & documenting. I also volunteered working at a plethora of animal shelters and veterinarians, so I gained some proper insight in predators in captivity / domesticated. It is always good to have different perspectives, especially when you predominantly study behavior. That way you can make better judgements about how, what, and why an animal does certain things in the wild, as apposed to "at home" 😊 I have been doing that for many years now, and hopefully for many more. I think I am VERY lucky that I was able to have TWO dream jobs, both in the military and as an Ethologist 👍

We've taken in many cats over the years, mostly strays or cast-offs but also some semi-ferals. What's always amazed me is that as wary as most of them are when outside, only a few would ever look up toward the trees or sky for threats, this despite the fact that we do have many hunting hawks and some species of eagles and owls in the area. Luna seems to be one of those that does look upward occasionally to check things out.

Luna and Buster in the woods is neat, he seems more motivated and moving around then when he is by his self! Luna motivates him to keep going! you were having a heck of a time with Luna’s leach with the brush. the carrier you have looks like the one we bought, top crate for pets that detaches from the carriage, so you can roll or carry the cats around.great video

Yes, I used to let her walk freely before. But that was when she was in the forest more frequently. If I start to take her out more often then she can probably walk freely with a GPS again soon!

This breed of cat is so very smart! Luna is very beautiful as Buster is so handsome. As someone who is house bound I love these walks with you! Lovely video! My daughter has seven rescue cats however they are indoor cats but she has train them very well. They know what furniture they are allowed on, when it is breakfast or dinner and where they will get their meal, they also don’t try and steal each others food. Morning, good to see Luna with Buster out in the forest. Your original 2 babies. Luna is a beautiful cat. She looked pretty confident out in the forest today. I had to laugh when they got on 2 different downed trees. Especially when they were headed in 2 different directions. But I knew you would get them back together again. By the way, I've been thoroughly enjoying your livestreams. But, I always enjoy all of your videos. You really have a talent of producing great videos of all the cats and babies. I first joined you after Luna had her first litter and have been with you since then. How old is Luna now? They grow up so fast, don't they? My Lizzie May, the coonie we have now, is 21 months old this month. Seems hard to believe. She's still a bit of a wild woman but wouldn't have her any other way. She's also very loving and sweet.
