100% relatable. I work at an ace in Florida. It’s hard to tell a customer that “we do not have any in the back” but it’s kinda funny because we don’t have a back.

I've been working at ace for about 6-7 months now, its a pretty easy job. The only kind of difficult things are, about 95% of the people that come in the store ask where items are at as soon as they step foot in the store (it gets pretty annoying, because most of the time if the customer took 10 seconds to look they would find it). Also customers expect you to know where and what every item is.

If you can use a cash register then you can learn the paint program in a day, it really does most of the work. Be prepared to learn about caulks and adhesives, wood stains for interior and exterior and also deck stains, cement, plaster drywall compound. Spackle versus wood putty. =Rollers and roller frames, paint brushes nylon and 100% bristle. One of my favorite KZbin channels is Paint Life/ Idaho painter. Another is reality renovation. See Jane drill is pretty good too. Most of all start your own projects that require products from the paint department. And most of all do not get overwhelmed but feel confident that there's so much there to satisfy your hunger to learn. And know that when you do plan to position in the paint department that your customers problem projects have so many variables that it seems like every one of them is different even if they're similar. When a customer asks you if this is the right product, never fair, the back label initiates with what the product is to be used for followed by preparation application and clean up. It is here also where you will learn to sell other items they will need when they use the product, like PPE, mineral spirits, drop cloth. Customers appreciate this as long as you're not condescending of course. It's an opportunity to point out safety precautions that they may not otherwise read when they get the product home.Ace. the helpful hardware place

I enjoy working in hardware. Rude customers don't bother me. I HATE working the cash registers. This store opened last September and it's the first spring for the store. It's getting really busy competing with d and b supply. And only having 1 person at the front who isn't computer savvy... good store but I'm moving on. Not my style
