From what I remember from my high school years, it was always like that, when we saw someone sitting alone, we'd invite them to our table bc in a sense we'd have the thought that WE wouldn't like to be eating alone in a cafeteria full of kids eyeing you bc you're alone. (I'm French btw)

But in my high school when we see people eating by themselves there's juste a small time of wondering if whether they're lonely or want to be alone and then we don't even think about it anymore. At least it's how I think most people see this where I live

Kind of related, but not really, we have double pan glass in our cafeteria, and the outside layer broke over the summer break. (I think it was because of a stress fracture, but it might have been because someone or thing hit it, but probably not?) Anyways, so this window has been broke since the early summer months, I thought they’re have it fixed by the beginning of the school year, but no. Apparently some duct tape and wood will do

"learn from the French" I didn't think French school is a good exemple, in French class are rude, teachers are rude, students are rudes.... We start at 8 AM and finish 5/6 PM it's veryyyyy long, the big part of teachers doesn't care about us they just talk during 1 hour and let us alone. The school system is not adapted to everyone and a lot of great people fail because of it. French school is rude and not a model or something like this...

As a Frenchman, all I can say is that this guy is definitely from a wealthy family and obviously he went to high school in a wealthy area of Aix en Provence (which is also a rich city). If he went to my old high school in a "Zep" (priority education zone, which is a good word for poor neighborhood) in my poor suburban city of Paris, he wouldn't meet so many nice kids and certainly not such good infrastructure. The only place similar to what I knew was the "CDI" (library).
