Very liberal upper middle class high school. In the stone age there were no computers and most text books were state property but some still wrote in them. Class dress was regulated for girls but with the exception of long hair boys could work pretty much anything except shorts and they had to have socks on with the shoes. Girls had to wear dresses and the battle is always about the length above the knee. Kids were not allowed into classrooms until fifteen minutes before first period so there was very little slack time to stand around and shoot the breeze. Classes were disciplined and the teachers their best to control the students. No hall public displays of affection of any kind were allowed. 10 minutes between classes each of which was 50 minutes long per hour usually with four or five plus physical education which was a graded class. Usually 25 to 35 minutes for lunch. Taken only in the cafeteria. Cost was $.50. I think it’s about $2.50 today. At least in our area kids don’t have books any longer as everything is on computer and they use laptops. School districts issued laptops to the students at no cost. Everything is computerized, even assignments and communication. There’s a lot of variation from school system to school system these days with a block classes differ from day today and much more relaxed atmosphere. My kids were lucky in that they got to sleep in longer as high school (the three levels of schools are staggered one hour apart for starting times beginning at 7:45 in the morning) classes did not begin until 9 o’clock but ended at four. the only constant is that teachers still don’t get paid enough especially considering that many have masters degrees which is a requirement in our county. Discipline seems to be somewhat lax but the kids are more agreeable. I would suppose if there were severe problems the kids would be made to leave and go to another school. Parents are allowed way too much direct interference in schools especially when it comes to subject matter and it always seems to be the most ignorant or ultra conservative parents that interfere. And most states the state Board of Education sets standards and the different districts to meet those standards in their own matter with the exception of attendance hours per semester which are minimum. The worst part of public schools is they don’t teach kids how to be adults much less get them started on any sort of skill training besides computers. In the final analysis they are vast differences between school districts that are funded mostly by local taxes and so they are very good ones and there are very very bad ones for me the kids not really have much of a chance to do anything except try to get through it from one day to the next.

Oh this video hits. Combining my favorite place on earth with a filmed that moved me to tears and stayed with me for weeks. Just before pandemic I did an 11-day solo mountain bike adventure ride through that entire area riding mostly trails and dirt roads, and staying in rifugios each night. The trip started and ended in Bressanone via Cortina, Sottoguda, Arraba, Seceda, etc. It was probably the best 11 days of my life. Planning another one for next year and CANNOT WAIT.
