We got invited to come check out USCG Station Oak Island, and man what a cool experience it was. I've never been to an active Coast Guard station before, so it was all new to me. They even let us run our 33’ Onslow Bay to the station! We got to tour the entire station, see all the vessels, run one of their boats, and ultimately learn what it's like to be in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Have you ever considered joining the Coast Guard? If so, learn more at www.gocoastgua...

I retired from the Coast Guard a few years ago and did 38 years. I was Aviation and loved those days. I visited this station for USCG business, and it is quite the unit.

I’m a retired Chief Warrant Officer from the Coast Guard. I was a search and rescue coordinator for Group Ft. Macon/ Sector NC 04-08. Great tour overall. Thanks for showcasing the hard work these folks do. Cheers

I served 8 years in the USCG and got out as a BM2 (Coxswain and Boarding Officer). Back then we had the 44 MLB, 41 UTB, and a variety of smaller rigid hull inflatables, whalers, and whatever else the service could scrape up at that time. For anyone thinking about joining, and this includes you, Qualified Captain, I can personally testify that it was the best thing I ever did as a young man. Absolutely zero regrets.

Growing up in Florida we saw these guys every day so we all knew what they did. I am really surprised at the attitude of general society regarding the Coat Guard. They have what is hands down the hardest law enforcement job in the country. Then after they are done catching smugglers and arresting criminals, they get to do maintenance on every bouy, marker, and light you see on the water, AND, they save thousands of lives at sea every year, AND they inspect millions of vessels for safety compliance.

Great behind the scenes look at our Coast Guard. I hope I never need them, but it is comforting to know that they are there, ready to respond.

Loved this video, I was in the USCG 1977 - 1981 and then the active reserves for several years. Life in the Guard is way different than it was back in my day. Heck, we didn't even have computers or gps.. crazy..

There is a USN supply station at Wilmington, plus the largest USMC base on the east coast nearby - no telling what it was. Also, there is a large civilian container and bulk freight port at Wilmington, escorted assets need not be only military.
