A Day In The Life: Husqvarna Automower 105

Meet George, a Husqvarna Automower 105 named after George Harrison from The Beatles. The purpose of this video is to show how I solved the issue of having a stair separating two levels in my garden. Hopefully, this video can be helpful to some of you either looking for a solution to an existing problem you are facing regarding implementing a robotic lawn mower in your garden, or if you are planning or designing a new garden and are looking for ways to facilitate a robotic lawn mower.

How did you manage the guide wires under the concrete? Just there under the mat or lined in a plastic tube?

There has not been used concrete in this installment. The material you can see the Automower drives on at 0:30-0:42 is a sort of textile/mat made for outdoor use. The way I got the wires under the mat was that I first dug small trenches in the sand under the textile. In these trenches I laid a flexible plastic tube (the kind electricians use in walls to run electrical wires through). I then covered it up with sand and rolled out the textile/mat. So when I installed the Automower, I ran the boundary and guide wire through the tubes I had previously installed. It looks seamless and works great.

How did you solve it, if I may ask?

I solved the problem by making the Automower go up and down a small slope to access the two areas separated by the stairs. As you can see in the video (0:30-0:42), I used a mat which is designed to be used outdoors to give the Automower grip for going up and down the slope. Under the mat I have buried three cable ducts, containing two boundary wires and one guide wire. I haven't had any problems with the mower getting stuck in the corridor (everything is installed according to Husqvarna's installment instructions), and the Automower has not been slipping on the mat. I installed the mower three years ago and it has been hunky-dory from day one.
