Very nice video. Thanks for sharing your concerns and thoughts through your evening wind-down and morning briefing. It would have been nice to see some of the final pictures. Especially when you discussed using rear shutter to show end result. But keep the videos coming. A shoot setup is hectic enough without trying to do a KZbin video. Thanks for taking time to share with us the scenes throughout the day. 👍

The Canon EL-1 Speedlite and the ST-E3-RT ver2 allow for first and second curtain sync selection. You can have the EL-1 hotshoe mounted and optically trigger everything else. The Canon R3 has second curtain sync as an option in the menu.

@@QuantzPhoto It's funny, after I wrote that I thought the Profoto A1/A1X/A10 do second curtain sync and is a transmitter for the B1's, as does the Air TTL Remote. I have a couple of B1's but no A1 and was thinking of getting one for on camera fill and the transmitter functionality.

@@QuantzPhoto I found it very interesting. I'm always amazed at all the gear I have to take when I do a shoot, but that's even more difficult when you are going to be so far from your home base so you need to think of everything. I shoot Fuji (XT3) and starting watching your channel when you starting using the Canon R5 as I'm interested in investing in the R5 and several RF lenses. It was interesting that you were using the GFX because I've also thought of buying the GFX 100s instead of the R5 since I do love the Fuji system. I just don't think in the end it is a versatile as the R5. So I'm seeing a lot of stuff of interest on your channel (and like the cameo's by your little dog).

This just comes in so conveniently. I am just panning out my finals for my apprenticeship. The Plan is to take some long exposure portraits of basketball players in action and also use a flash to freeze them on the second shutter. I also use an R5 so likely will have a similiar approach, but will have to do some testing, too. Keep up the good work James. It is truly inspiring.

If you’re trying to find/access the rear/front curtain sync without your profoto remote mounted to the hot shoe, then that’s your issue right there. Canon won’t give you access to something irrelevant to what it (the camera) thinks it’s doing, with no remote/trigger mounted an powered on the camera sees no need for you to access flash sync. I’d try just mounting your trigger, turn it on, and then canon will give you access. It’s in the first set of red menus, but I don’t know which page, you’ll have to dig a little to find it. Hope this helps.
@QuantzPhoto

Thanks for sharing the Nitty-Gritty behind the scenes, sure hope you can get an assistant soon. I am real interested in the behind the scene making of a drag and pop shoot. I've done some in camera second curtain work and now trying to do similar look with PS. In your intro you have an example in red uniform and there is a commercial photographer named Matt Hernandez from Paduka Kentucky has done similarly. l would love to watch the actual shooting or even pay for tutorial as I plan to offer that as some of my senior sport theme photos here in Sebastian, Fl. I did my anesthesia training in Columbia at Palmetto Health Center ( Richland Memorial Hospital ) in the 70.s A bunch of us would go to a restaurant near lake Murry called the "Whale Tail" for all you can eat shrimp.. Thanks for putting this together. I really appreciate the ideas on handling on-site shoots. BTW, have you figured out that your Profoto Air-remote has a setting for second-curtain synch? I've been using Canon for years and never bother with the in-camera menus for managing the flash/strobes. I used to shoot a lot of events and drag the shutter so I could pick up some ambient light with a slow shutter speed and it was always too much of a pain to sort through camera menus when it was right there on the strobe. After getting some new strobes with radio remotes that handle TTL, I was glad to find that capability right in the remote. Much faster (for me) that way.

Great...realistic...content. I hope your client watches this and sees everything that goes on behind the scenes. As for the rear curtain sync, I am just an enthusiast and my flashes are Canon, but it is buried on the R5, Camera 2/External Speedlite control/Flash Function Settings. But, I suspect that is what you found with the Sunpack, so the issue may be that Profoto doesn't create this menu?
