I just have to appreciate a person like this that is studying from literally waking up until going to sleep, staying focused 24/7. As a person with ADHD, it would be a dream to have a ability to do similar but well, it izz what izz.

SAME, i can concentrate for 3 hours but if i see anything thats not related about studies i distract myself in seconds..
@highviewbarbell Жыл бұрын
Just use that to your advantage! I'd love to major in pure Math but I'm doing Engineering Physics, because it's the ADHD degree. Super math heavy, but you learn so much applied physics you can bounce around all the time in what you're studying

That ability is not exactly regular, I'd say very few are able to do it, unless it's something one finds interesting. I imagine it also requires a bit of a "support network", to be able to feel relaxed between days.
@charliemacke72098 ай бұрын
Do not underestimate yourself, ADHD doesn't give you the inability to do this, it just means you have to do this differently. Especially if it is something you are passionate for, ADHD will not be able to stop you, just might take you a little longer

Cambridge is great! I was in the first M.Phil. Linguistics class (1978); we had to write 3 research papers and a thesis, but there were no exams. (I was at Clare College and remember those long walks around a slightly rainy town.)

Thank you for sharing Ellie, I appreciate that and your existence, it's beautiful to see people like you do what you do and use their ability to learn and study to blossom into something beautiful. My jaw dropped when you said past papers didn't have mark schemes, I laughed when you said it was to make it hard! The sunrises and sunsets, I dream of having a view of one, let alone both! Thank you for sharing, good luck, God bless

In 1992, no computer( only in programming club, MSdos gwBasic or pascal and Fortran), no mobile, wake up coffee, with mathematics.

? This sounds 1972 to me, not 1992. At least in the Netherlands. And even in the study, 1972-1976, my brother used computers in his study maths (Leiden , netherlands). I cannot give his PHD title due to privacy rules... but this phd could ONLY be done with (self programmed ) computers.

Hi Ellie! I got an offer from Part III math for 2023 MT entry and I'm really interested in exoplanets. I guess I should've applied to places like IoA as well but back then I didn't know much about Cambridge... Just wondering, do you know about the chances of getting into a PhD program in astrophysics after Part III, either at Cambridge or elsewhere? That would be really helpful!
@EllieSleightholm Жыл бұрын
Congratulations!! During Part III there are talks about phd applications which was one of the helpful parts of studying at a university where you want to do your PhD! I’m not sure on the acceptance rate but I do know that studying Part III is one of the best things you can do to ensure a PhD at Cambridge! 😄

Hi Ellie! I'm a freshman at University and I'm studying Computer Science, not math, but I still have to do a lot of Math. First semester I did very well, but now that I'm in second I don't have motivation to study and I'm not being efficient enough when it comes to study I think I could spend even three hours without learning anything and that's frustrating me. Have this ever happened to you? What would you suggest me to do? (Also English is my second language so I'm sorry if I wrote wrong some things)

Wow, what sort of hours were you doing each day? Also, were you working 7-days a week?
@EllieSleightholm2 жыл бұрын
It massively varied day to day! In this video I started work at 7am and finished around 9:30/10pm before going to bed - roughly a 15 hour study day including food and rest breaks :) other days I wouldn't be as productive and would spend my evenings resting. As it got closer to my exams I was consistently waking up around 6/7am and working throughout the day - whether the work during the day was productive depended on how focused I felt that day. I was often told by my friends that I study way too hard which might be true😂 and yes, I was working 7 days a week unless I was unwell or had a seizure. I can create a video explaining how hard I revised each day if that would help? :)

Do You Really Think I Care About NUMBERS. All you Need for computing is GCSE Maths and For Electronics is A'Level Maths. YOU, ALL YOU CAN DO IS: MEMORISE AND REPEAT THE ANSWER TO A QUESTION. IF ITS A QUESTION, YOU HAVEN'T SEEN BEFORE. YOU CANT DO IT. YOUR CAMBRIDGE ARM CPU: THATS EQUIVALENT TO AN 8086
