A Day in the Life of a Columbia Law Student

We got a low-key law school vlog today. I wanted to do a day in the life video that felt representative of how things are going at Columbia Law School. It's more vibey because, to be honest, most of my days are just reading and trying to prepare for cold calls and class. Hopefully, this gives a good idea of what law school is like so it's not just all the fun snapshots that you see on social media. I tried to film a law school day that had my typical amount of classes, a normal commute in New York City, and thought of including a networking event or something (because those are always going on) but I kept it real and skipped the event because it wasn't mandatory and I have to preserve my energy for the things I really care about. @@juchoi9639 I got a 173 and applied pretty early (since I was a reapplicant so I had my materials mostly ready). I didn’t have a legal internship before law school

I’ve loved living in NY so far. The seasons have been great and the people have been wonderful. It is so shocking when I go back to CA tho and see how different it is 😂 like being able to see over buildings and way more palm trees

Hoping to do it this summer as people start planning their own moves so I can do apartment tour and moving tips together 🥰 I need to clean it up some to film LOL it’s isn’t in awful shape but with finals it hasn’t been a top priority

And as for studying on campus not really. I need to find more places to study because the law school never has enough room and they’re going to be doing a bunch of construction 🤡🤡 so going to try and explore more of the other grad schools to find places to study and for now I just study at home

What specific field of law you’re studying?

Your first year is mostly foundational courses so I haven’t really gotten into any specialized study yet. I did take some constitutional law electives and a critical legal studies elective. I’m hoping to continue taking more LGBTQ+ and gender law classes along with intellectual property courses.

Hi, thank you for your vlog! How long does your commute typically take?

Only about 20 mins. Maybe 30 if I’m waiting on the train or there is a delay for some reason. It’s not bad tho because part of my commute is walking to the subway past a lot of trees and the other part is just walking across campus. I personally enjoy it 🥰 but I know some people want to be able to roll out of bed to class which is super real

LOL I will make an entire video about my second semester once it’s done so I have a full picture and don’t have to worry but as soon as I told 2Ls and 3Ls I had them they all immediately knew their reputation. And yes I will be president of first generation professionals and in the secular society board (separation of church and state club). I likely won’t do any journals and plan on doing some experiential learning opportunities instead

What do you use to record your videos?

When I’m at home I use my DSLR which is a Sony. But for vlogs like this it’s usually just my iPhone and I have the video settings in either 30 fps or 60 fps

It’s just minute oats and then you can use whatever you like in them. I’m so lazy so I just microwave them with water and then add in whatever I have on hand. I like using frozen berries tho because it helps cool down the oats faster to eat.

Hi I'm from India and I'm in 10th standard ( high school). I want to get admission in Columbia law school I'm deciding this 2 years before my 12th graduation. I want a scholarship, how can I get it and what would be the process for an Indian student? How much GPA do I really need to get admission, fees and so on..

Hey! I’m actually not really familiar with the process for international students because I do believe there can be some differences. But I imagine just getting the best grades you can and test scores will help the most. Especially for scholarship.
