This job is not for everyone. When I was young until in my late 30's I always wanted to be a FA, but after that, I worked in hotels/Front Desk most of my life and still do.... the stories some Flight Attendants used to tell me, were unbelievable. I changed my mind completely about becoming one. First, you're stuck on the plane with passengers (some aren't that nice) until you reach your destination, then there is the turbulence, then you're always packing up, traveling from one place to another.....you'll hardly see your family, then you can only work 80 hours a month, which comes under the category of a part time job, really, so you have to have another job to make ends meet. Nowadays, it's even worse for Flight Attendants to deal with the public. they're being attacked by passenger left and right..... I work at the Front Desk, and deal with angry guests every day (on the ground), imagine, if it's in the air....there is no where to go....at least, at the hotel, you can walk away, but on the plane....you're stuck. I have a great deal of customer service and I speak 5 languages, I would love to be one, but now, I'm comfortable working for a five-star hotel since early 90's and I love it. I would've been a great Flight Attendant but in life, its' not always what we want, we get...we usually get what we don't want...
@cecilalee44642 жыл бұрын
I’m a flight attendant for delta and only working 80 hours is not true, I worked 100 hours this month. It has its up and downs but the good definitely outweighs bad.
@ntmn84442 жыл бұрын
It’s not true. As others have mentioned, depending on the airline you work for, you are capped at 120 hours or so, except Delta. They have no limit. Our job is not like a 9-5 job where you work 160 hours a month. When they say you can’t work more than x amount of hours, they’re referring to flight hours, but this job is hardly part time. The way our pay structure works is different, yet you can make a livable wage. A lot of flight attendants do have something on the side, but it’s up to the person. I work full time with my airline, and I find I don’t need to work on the side. With time your pay increases and it makes a huge difference! But again, it’s not like how when you go work a regular job. We get paid differently to other professions. Yes, this is a lifestyle, it’s not a job. You travel for work, you live out of your suitcase. Some layovers are short, others are long. If you’re not the adventurous type, this isn’t for you. Honestly, this isn’t a career for everyone. People think it’s cool to travel, and it is. I personally LOVE my job. My bad pax stories just make it fun for me. I always have something to tell people when they ask me. But it is work, you have to love travel for real, you really have to enjoy working with people. If not, you’re going to be very miserable and lonely.

L. Mays, What's the best part of being a purser?
@LMays-cu2hp Жыл бұрын
@@johndoe9362 One of the best aspects about being a Purser is letting your fellow Flights Attendants know that you are going to work with them. And in that same moment "they", my fellow Flight Attendants are the most important in creating a "great team" for the flights! Back when we were flying the 747-400s and I found myself having to lead a team of 14 to 16 coworkers, F/As, who some were senior to me and others were junior to me in seniority, but I always let them know that they, they, were the most important concern to me as a" team" first off in our initial briefings!!! Secondly, I would let my colleagues know that they, they were giving or utilizing the best of their skills and tools to the passengers!!! I had continued to always use those abilities when working with a team of Flight Attendants on the 777s back to the smaller in aircraft size to the 737s. It is letting your colleagues are the "best team" to work with!!!!

Interesting enough, but when I visit the USA, in terms of 'seeing the country' to which one of these Delta staff referred, I always travel on Amtrak, the government-owned national rail operator. Nothing better than enjoying the trip in a sleeper, having meals in the dining car, relaxing in the lounge car on the upper deck and seeing small-town North America glide by. So much more interesting than from an aluminium tin can, necessary as they can be to travel between nations. And when on any form of public transport, we are 'passengers' not that horrid word 'customers'.
@briangasser9733 жыл бұрын
An Amtrak sleeper is expensive, time consuming, and has difficulty keeping on schedule. If you are retired and have time, Amtrak seems an enjoyable means of travel. If you are traveling JFK to LAX for a long weekend or a business meeting, you need to fly.

Good interview, but I don't understand why they would interview newer flight attendants?!
@ntmn84442 жыл бұрын
Because they’re the ones who know what the experience will be like for someone coming brand new. I speak from experience. I work as a FA, and most senior people have absolutely NO idea what it’s like for juniors. My company has straight reserve, for example, and my senior friends would tell me to drop all my reserves to go live in Cancun for a month with them chilling at the beach. This was when I first started out. Not realistic. We can’t drop reserve days at my company. But they don’t know that because the last time they were reserve was 20+years ago. Their experience is just so different from juniors. In these legacy airlines, I know a few senior pilots and FAs who aren’t even flying. They don’t know what the situation is really like first hand right now. All in all, It’s definitely better to hear from newer FAs.
