Best advice is to attend one of the programs that train you in cardiac devices like ATI in Greenville SC or PreMD in Boston…they have close to 100% placement post completion with one of the major cardiac device companies…Medtronic, Abbott, Boston Scientific, or Biotronik…I worked with graduates of both programs and its a virtual guarantee to a job in this exciting ancillary field of healthcare

Dr London- Thank you for your wisdom and humanity. I grew up in a medical family; my father was a surgeon- an “old school MD” who always still had his black bag by the door, ready to make a house call if needed. My comments, to reiterate you points, in response to this great video: - “knowledge” can be almost worthless without the “wisdom” to know how and when to apply it - the “art of medicine” is as critical to success as the “science of medicine” - nothing can replace “examining your patient” - their body, mind & spirit Keep up the great videos. And thanks for taking the time to create this content!

I know this isn't the same thing you do, but growing up on a cattle farm, I saw my father save the life of dozens of baby calfs, by interventions that weren't double blind studied. We didn't often have time to go to the library and find a book on what to do when you see situation A in the barn, we just reacted and tried everything we could to nurse them to health. We all have to be open to trying different techniques when what we're doing isn't working. I appreciate your insight and informative video.

I had the luck of having my life saved by an incredible surgeon in Nova Scotia, Canada. Dr. Krista de Boer is my Rockstar... Her expertise, dedication and her compassion is second to none in my book. It Amazed me how sweet and upbeat she was and NEVER once did I feel rushed when taking up her valuable time with my questions and conversation. For three weeks she checked on me every single day in the early morning. She even came in to double check on me late one evening before she was going away for a weekend. I quite literally owe her my life.

My partner had one of the best, in my opinion, cardiac surgeons in Nova Scotia Canada. He looked at Patrick, listen to his words and often included me with the visit as well. He saved Patrick’s life twice unfortunately he succumbed two Christmases ago to COVID related ARDS. Dr Keir Stewart was remarkable always with Patrick. Dr Stewart took the time not only to help him but also to get to know him as a person and a patient.

Dr. London, great channel. I am a vascular surgeon only a few states away from you serving a very similar patient population. One of my favorite aspects about your channel is when you include your family. Did you ever think to do a video discussing how you manage your personal family life with a busy practice, managing call, etc. all while being a good father? I appreciate the medical aspect of your videos for obvious reasons but would you care to expand on the personal side? I think this is something a lot of surgeons, especially in our line of work, struggle with. Thank you and again, great channel.

I appreciate you taking the time to watch my content and I love this comment. Initially I focused on the health and wellness topics because everyone can relate, but I would be happy to share more of my life. Show some more day in the life content with friends and family. The short answer is it isn't easy to balance work and personal life. There aren't enough hours in the day and sacrifices are made but I focus on what is most important to me and do my best to make time for it. Again, thank you for your comment and question.

My wife is a veterinary surgeon, small animal. Thing with the roughly 1800 veterinary surgeons in the US is they have to do all surgeries. Unfortunately this means when they are on call / ER they can, and do, get everything. It's always fascinating for me to see how surgeons of all types go about their mornings. She has a similar routine of setting herself up for the day. She starts very similar to you. She starts with hydration and delays coffee a bit, then sits down and journals and does a mindful guided meditation, then coffee, just one cup. We spend a few moments together and then she leaves for the day. She recently moved into another practice and we moved away from Atlanta. She did a lot of trauma / ER in Atlanta. Since we're getting a little older she wanted to get away from the on call lifestyle and more into a scheduled referral only type of practice. You never know when a dog will show up because a neighbor tried, and failed, to chop its head off with an axe... yeah, it's sometimes crazy. That dog lived by the way. Anyway, thanks for what you do and sharing your routine. Very interesting to see.

I had a bypass just about two years ago. The assessment by a transplant cardiologist for possible stenting (part of kidney transplant workup)revealed that it was not an option. He did not fool around - once he made the assessment they started taking down the room and before I was really coherent, I had an appointment with the surgeon. Scared the hell out of me, but at every step the care team was excellent. Not just the white coats (ARNPs, PAs, doctors) but the nurses. Was it fun? No. Did it suck as much as I feared? Not even close. I recovered well and was back at work in two months, and living a relatively normal life. I lost a lot of fitness and the beta blockers keep me from working out the way I would like, but I can do darned near anything else I want. This is a short summary of my experience, of course - but every bit of the care was excellent.

Hospital medicine is rife with bureaucracy, overextended nurses, and greed. The intensivist might have made better decisions if he had time. The hospitalists at my facility are so overworked it’s ridiculous. 20 patients a day to see, manage, chart, communicate with families and nurses…not very practical. They did exactly what they’re supposed. Stopped heart meds(diuretics included) and started pumping me full of fluids. I told him my body is not going to like this. Did I mention one of my heart issues is CHF? Give you one guess what happened within 3 days. He gave me the whole we treat numbers in the icu and there’s protocol. My cardiologist had to come in and kick some butt(figuratively, lol). I was livid.
