I'm a medical student and I would strongly advise against it. What they don't show you in videos like these are the times of incredible stress, the length of this path, the debt, and the toxic culture surrounding medicine. You also won't have a personal life. Try holding onto a marriage or having any sort of relationship with your kids with a job like this. It's virtually impossible. Some surgery programs boast a 100% divorce rate during residency. Medicine as a whole is a long ways from having a culture revamp to make things more amenable for physicians. They genuinely don't care about their well-being and it's all profit driven for shareholders
@medtuff3 ай бұрын
@@smellypatel5272 feel like this is coming off a bit bias, your a med student and are prob next to other students who spread stuff like this but the truth is majority of careers give people a lot of stress and have to work long hours. though you may be right that it's a bit toxic it makes no sense to try to advise him against it without knowing him and his goals at all lol
@smellypatel52723 ай бұрын
@@medtuff I'm a non traditional student and I worked in a couple of different fields prior to pursuing medicine. None of them came close to the level of toxicity you experience in medicine. A neurosurgeon (in a team with an anesthesiogist) screwed me up royally in 2020 when I had an elective foot drop surgery. No bad feeling with the surgeon, but the anesthesiologist overdosed on Propofol and other sleep meds to the point I experienced MINS at the beginning of the surgery, nevertheless they continued with the surgery that lasted 4 hours. It did not help with my foot drop, the surgeon got paid heafty money from the insurance. The anesthesiologist excuse was that I told him, while already sedated on the operating table, that I was taking Percocet in the past. I don't believe he even looked at my medical history prior to the operation. In the middle of the surgery I experienced a short episode of STEMI, and after surgery - elevated troponin. It is a miracle, but they couldn't find any damage to my heart muscle, therefore they denied my lawsuit. That experience scared me so much, I would never go under the knife again, even if my life would depend on it. Please, be careful out there
