With a homestead and three children including a 2yo I have to be very diligent about how I do things so the house doesn’t fall apart daily. I have five things that I do daily that help so much to maintain a certain level of organization. 1- Make beds 2- Wash all dishes 3- Clean all counters and stovetop 4- Wash one load of laundry 5- Run the robot vacuum.

That’s a good list. Mine is very similar on my good days.

When I turned 40 I could no longer marathon clean my entire home in 1 day 🫡 I just had to be honest with myself that slow and steady wins the race and one small step each day was enough . Life is much more simple now and that is a good thing ❤ 🏡

Just read your post on a different page, which struck me to the core. I like many love to and enjoy the taste of meat, but if I had to butcher it, well it would never happen. In today's world perhaps we don't need to kill anymore. So many better ways to nurture ourselves with the knowledge we have. Perhaps we would stop killing each other and our planet too. Today was a sad day. Stuart and I got up at the crack of dawn to load our yearling steer into the trailer and make the small trip to the butcher. I cried. Then my kids cried. And I realized that two things can be true at the same time: we can be grateful for the provision, looking forward to the meat, and be thankful for the nourishment it will provide our family and ALSO be deeply sad because killing anything is hard, I love and care for my animals deeply, and I will miss his little spirit here on the farm. I’m trying to focus on being grateful today.

Your 'day in the life' video brings back a lot of memories of my own upbringing on a farm. Sadly our beloved farmhouse is no longer standing but I have many (mostly) good memories of those days with all our animals, thousands of cats (some exaggeration maybe) and good old fashion farm food. I miss those days. I would dearly love to live in the country again. Thank you.

@@theelliotthomestead Our farm was way up in the northern plains of Minnesota. My mother did most of her growing up there as well. Her dad was a farmer who emigrated from Sweden and ended up here in Minnesota. I live in a town now but the farm site isn't far so I drive there every so often just for memories sake. A little bittersweet but nice to think back. I miss farm life but love to watch your videos...and just remember.

Beautiful dandelion greens! When I was a child my Nonna (yes, she was from Italy) would come over and we would go out for a walk down one side and then back up the other side of our country road. She would use a long knife and circle the greens to cut them out of the ground. She would shake the soil off and toss them in the giant bowl I was holding. After the bowl was full we’d head home with a beautiful harvest. Using the garden hose to wash them off was easy to do outdoors. Next she would dress the greens with vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper. Glorious salad!🥬 Thank you for your video ❤

No two days are alike with all the moving pieces... so true - and no two families are alike! When I saw your kitchen shot toward the end of the video, I can't help but think how different it is now from when you first started renovating it! One thing at a time, one day at a time, one year at a time... Such an evident testimony through your videos on how a home (not house) is created ❤ Also, ever since I've learned from Clara' Kitchen about the dandelion salad back in the Great Depression era, I have never looked at them the same.
