Hello, and my sincerest apologies for an out-of-band question. May I please request your guidance as to which lens to buy to photograph pregnancy (personal use)? I own a Nikon ZF with a 28-75 f2.8 kit lens and I've had rather soft photos. I want to capture our journey and I want to invest in a prime. I'm confused between 35, 50 or 85 f1.8 S series lens. I am from India where apartments are small and light maybe dim due to clustered homes. I tried using your lens reviews but 50 and 85 mm f1.2 s both are at a tie score :) Thank you and I'm sorry for directly asking for a recommendation. :)

HE'S BACK!!! Yay! This channel was one of my favorites when I started getting into photography. "When the *light* and *subject* have _unified_ emotions, your photograpy will be GRAND" - a quote from one of your videos that I wrote down and keep in my camera bag

Great stuff Spencer, good to see more content coming out on KZbin. Photography Life is the absolute best publication, not full of commercial stuff just great, informative, interesting articles and the best reviews. Your new format reviews for lenses is awesome with full testing with coma examples, lab and real-time imaging, the lot. Thanks to all the team for such a quality enterprise.

Hi, please do make more videos. You are unique I watch plenty about photography, but I really like your approach on teaching. Thank you so much for your time. 😆 when you use 8x10 you should cover it with Heavy black Cloth or you wont see ash....t . That's how you see the focus. . and the Photo of the sand . is Stock photo . Nasim Mansurov used it to talk about Lense Calibration . Be Serious Kid . i used that 8x10 in the 70s with my Dad . New aGeneration Don't use it . Cz they Need 25 years of Darkroom experience. 👍

Pay attention to the timelapse in the second half of the video, of course I use a dark cloth when composing.

I've just recently discovered Photography Life and subscribed. I really appreciate the information 'density' in your tutorials. So many others spend 30 minutes imparting very little. I have a request for a future topic that you touched on one of your landscape videos which is more about the focus stacking technique in landscape situations, please? Is rising heat 'shimmer' something you contend with in your daily life as a landscape photographer? Thanks again for your wonderful style, detail and generosity. I really am enjoying working through your play list and being inspired. Please can you also, if possible, consider in your tips people who are less mobile but would still like to take impressive shots . All the best in your pursuits.

Thank you for the kind words! Regarding focus stacking, I try very hard to avoid it, because it’s easy to get annoying artifacts in the photo, with no good way to avoid it. If I must focus stack, I will only take 2-3 photos at the most, all at f/11 or f/16. My goal isn’t to use it to maximize detail but to deal with the occasional scene whose depth of field cannot otherwise be captured sufficiently. Regarding heat shimmer, it’s no issue except when shooting telephoto landscapes - 200mm at least, and usually 400mm or longer. I rarely, if ever, think about it as a landscape photographer. (Except in geothermal areas like Yellowstone or volcanic landscapes where there are pockets of superheated, super distorted air!) In any case, there is zero that the photographer can do about extreme heat shimmer anyway, except come back on another day.

You did an awesome job showing the secret life of a landscape photographer, Spencer! It's cool to see that film camera in action too. And those are some amazing locations...It's so beautiful out there, it's incredible that it's not crowded.

Much appreciated! I’m glad it’s one of those parks that is still pretty quiet. Although when I was there, I still saw some of the “dumb tourist plague” - at least one guy flying a drone illegally, and someone driving their car off-road in the area I was photographing at the end of the video.

Wow, seeing my name pop up in your video was such an exciting surprise! 😊 I must say your website has truly taught me a lot about landscape photography, wildlife photography, and optics. Indeed, you've significantly helped improve my skills. I also visited California's Death Valley last month with my family, and the seasonal lake at Badwater Basin was much larger than shown in the video, almost extending to the feet of the parking lot - the scenery there was truly spectacular. Keep up the amazing work - you've got a very happy supporter here cheering you on! 🎉

Thank you, that means a lot! Glad you got to see the lake as well. It grew quite a lot when it rained at the start of the year - I saw that some people even kayaked in it. Pretty cool stuff!

I don't know if we need more gear reviews, your written ones are already the best in the business, but videos like these and your tutorials are really valuable. You guys are full of knowledge and your content is always well-produced, I'd love to see more of it.

Thanks Nick, that means a lot! I agree, I’m not sure that we’ll get into video reviews given the time we already spend per written review. Maybe one day. But for now, the KZbin channel is more for tutorials and entertainment.
