is canon rf85mm good for macro photography?
@PhotographyLifeChannel13 күн бұрын
The RF 85mm f/2 Macro is a great lens for close-up photography, but note that its maximum magnification is 1:2 rather than 1:1. On a full-frame camera, this means you could fill the frame with something that’s about 72mm (2.8 inches) wide, rather than something that’s 36mm (1.4 inches) wide. So just make sure that’s enough for your work. You could also use extension tubes or other methods to get up to 1:1 magnification if necessary, but it would add some cost.

Good Video, BUT BY FAR the best humor in photography videos! And I don't mean the UFO-Joke - that was really good though - I mean all of those those subtile humorous remarks while the video was running. Great!

I'm brand new to photography and I've seen dozens of videos to help me prepare for astrophotography and NONE of them compare to how well made, planned out and informative as this one was. Thank you so much! I also have photopills and I have built a plan to go out to the sand dunes a couple hours away in about a month. I am so unbelievably excited to take my first astrophoto!

Thanks for the lovely and very informative video tutorial, Spencer! Some questions, from an amateur macro photographer, as I find my images are not always sharp: 1. I also use the Nikkor 105 mm macro lens you seem to be using in the video. As you say that you would use manual focus, do you set the switch on the lens to M/A instead of A? What about the VR switch ? Off or On? 2. On the camera (Nikon D500), should one set the lever on the side to AF or M? Thanks!
@PhotographyLifeChannel21 күн бұрын
Hi Nagesh, it doesn’t matter which one you set - whether on the camera or on the lens (or both!) switching to M will get you to manual focus. As for VR, I leave it on. It helps a little to stabilize the viewfinder even at extreme magnifications. And there’s no harm in doing so. I hope this helps!

where did you get the math for f8 is equal to f64??
@PhotographyLifeChannel25 күн бұрын
The diagonal of 8x10 film is about 313mm, and the diagonal of full-frame sensors is about 43mm. So the crop factor between them is about 7.3. An f-number of 64 divided by 7.3 gives you an f-number of 8.8. I guess saying f/9 in the video would have been more accurate, but either way, that’s how you get the same depth of field for a given composition on full-frame versus 8x10.

Hi :) i have a question and maybe you can help me, i would appreciate it very much. What do i do with the edited photos? i am confused about how do i store the raw images vs the edited images. Do i keep the in the same folder or i can do 2 different or what is the best workflow in your opinion? thank you very much!
@PhotographyLifeChannelАй бұрын
I understand why you’re confused! Lightroom doesn’t work how you think. It’s not like the file manager on your hard drive. In Lightroom, all your photos are basically edited - there’s no separate edited/unedited versions. You can create virtual copies if you want to have different variations of the same photo. But the question that you’re asking is unanswerable because that’s not how Lightroom works. (When you want any of your edits to appear outside of Lightroom, you need to right click > Export. This is something you will only do rarely, like when you’re about to publish the edited image online or send it to a print lab.)

Where is the Library? There are no videos on how to open/where is Library?

Does it matter whether you brighten before you image average in PS, or is it better to brighten the image after averaging? I tried both and it doesn't seem to make a big difference. I had thought brightening the RAW file and making any other basic exposure adjustments before exporting to PS would have been theoretically cleaner before the conversion to TIFF, but it doesn't seem to matter. Any advice would be appreciated.

I've just recently discovered Photography Life and subscribed. I really appreciate the information 'density' in your tutorials. So many others spend 30 minutes imparting very little. I have a request for a future topic that you touched on one of your landscape videos which is more about the focus stacking technique in landscape situations, please? Is rising heat 'shimmer' something you contend with in your daily life as a landscape photographer? Thanks again for your wonderful style, detail and generosity. I really am enjoying working through your play list and being inspired. Please can you also, if possible, consider in your tips people who are less mobile but would still like to take impressive shots . All the best in your pursuits.
@PhotographyLifeChannelАй бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! Regarding focus stacking, I try very hard to avoid it, because it’s easy to get annoying artifacts in the photo, with no good way to avoid it. If I must focus stack, I will only take 2-3 photos at the most, all at f/11 or f/16. My goal isn’t to use it to maximize detail but to deal with the occasional scene whose depth of field cannot otherwise be captured sufficiently. Regarding heat shimmer, it’s no issue except when shooting telephoto landscapes - 200mm at least, and usually 400mm or longer. I rarely, if ever, think about it as a landscape photographer. (Except in geothermal areas like Yellowstone or volcanic landscapes where there are pockets of superheated, super distorted air!) In any case, there is zero that the photographer can do about extreme heat shimmer anyway, except come back on another day.
