Do occupational therapist assistants have to get vaccinated against COVID to find employment? I'm asking because I'm thinking about going back to school to become one but I'm unsure because of the COVID requirements. Thanks 🙏

Hi Lauren, According to the NSW health guidelines the mandatory vaccination doesn't apply anymore since 30 November 2022 www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/vaccination/requirements-for-workers. However please check with potential employers if you do end up working or volunteering. :)

How are you able to become a pediatric OT? I want to specifically become a pediatric OT and wondering if there’s a different pathway I need to take than just becoming a regular OT

Hi Kaylie, Good question! There's no prerequisite for becoming a paediatric OT but having some experience working with children can help with the interviewing process. In the last year of my uni degree, I got to choose electives so I picked the paediatrics elective. This helped me gain more knowledge about paediatrics and then I did a fieldwork placement at a rural school. Outside of uni, I tried to get some work experience by working casually at a playground centre and then did support work for children with autism. I hope that helps! :)

If you’re in the US you need a degree/certificate. It’s a 20 month program so not too bad.
