*apologies in advance for the slight rant/ info dump* Hi, I am a first year studying medical radiation science (radiography) at the moment. I love studying it, I think it's really interesting so far but recently I have been going through a spiral of 'what if' thoughts, the scariest thought being 'what if i get all this HECS debt, spend all this time studying and then 5 or so years into my actual career I start to hate it and suffer from burnout?' obviously this might seem far fetched, but it is truly a paralysing fear for me and I honestly don't know how to get over it or alleiviate it. I worry about getting a job and then after some years wanting to retrain and then having to rely on support from my parents to keep me afloat. I worry about dissapointing the people around me who already view me as so successful. I know theres not much you can do and you don't really know me, but do you have any sort of advice or thoughts for me? Thankyou for your videos💜
@misscindy_diaries13 күн бұрын
@@emilyruth1401 Hi Emily, thank you for sharing your honest feelings 😊 I can totally empathise with the feeling of making the wrong career decision. I am not sure if I can give you the best advice but i’ll try my best! I would tell my younger self to try connecting with different people who may be in the field you are interested in and shadow them for a day if possible (or ask them about their role) to get a feel of the job. I think if i have done this I would have gotten a better idea of whether a career is suited for me or not. It is quite cliche to say but you just have to give it go and that’s when you know what you like and don’t like. It is a financial burden when you do end up having to switch careers down the line but personally I know myself way better now because I tried different jobs. 😊 Hope that helps! Let me know if you gave any further questions!

Hey, I know this video is a year old, but I am currently studying radiography and I love it but I keep having thoughts of the possibility of OT for me. Do you know if I can get a masters degree in OT and start working as an OT with a bachelors of radiography/ medical radiation science?

Hey, im new to your channel and have subscribed! I’m currently in year 10, and I have recognised you were a OT. I literally was so dedicated to be a OT but after watching your channel it has sort of changed my mind. I don’t know what to do with my career, I’m so lost (yes I know I’m in year 10 and should not be thinking much of it now!). I wanted to do OT because I was very intrested in a job that offered a salary of 70-90k yearly but I don’t think that’s the case with OT? I have been considering speech therapy too! Can you please give me suggestions on what to do and what your recommendations for a career would be! I would love suggestions as it would help me for my subject selections so I know my prerequisites for uni!
@misscindy_diariesАй бұрын
Hi thank you for subscribing! It’s great that you are doing your research early! 😊 I would recommend to choose a degree not just based on the salary but looking at whether it can provide you with the skills and knowledge for a job you might be interested in. I initially chose OT because I am passionate about health and mental health but i realized that when it comes to my 9-5 job, i wanted a better work life balance and where i personally won’t feel so drained because it matches my personality and skills. I would suggest going to career fairs or Expos if there are ones in your area. This allows you to talk to different working professionals and it can help you get an idea of whether OT is what you want to do. Wishing you the best of luck!

Being a support worker while studying a healthcare degree made me hate people! The burn out is real, and my mental health is starting to decline. I find aged and disabled people very ungrateful, petty and emotionally demanding. I have realised OT is definitely not for me as I hear other OT’s say how much they regret their degree. I see others getting to work from home, no stress and good pay doing a job that’s far less acedemic degrees like tech or finance. I notice these degree are less people involved too which would explain why the people doing jobs in those industries seem more relaxed, have better work benefits, and stable. I am considering doing a business degree where I can ultimately work from home.
@misscindy_diaries2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing Carly! I’m sorry to hear that you have experienced burn out while working as a support worker. Healthcare is definitely not for everyone. If your job is affecting your mental health in healthcare or not, it’s better to find something else. Yes i agree, usually tech and finance roles have better flexibility. It’s sad to see that most healthcare jobs don’t have that and OTs are overworked and get paid based on how many patients/clients they see. Anyways, Good luck with your next venture! Which area of business are you interested in?

Hi Cindy, Great video! I'm in my late 20s and I can definitely agree with and relate to a lot of the points that you mentioned. When I was younger, my dream was to be a professional soccer player and I often compared myself to the top soccer players and put them on a pedestal as I thought they lived the 'perfect life' of playing in a top European league earning lots of money. I only realised later in life that most soccer players don't earn a lot of money and like most of us, they don't have the 'perfect' life as they also have other matters to deal with including family, mental health and so forth. Even though I told myself that I am not a failure for not achieving my dream, I also learnt not to compare myself to them and focus on working on my own abilities as a person. The dating scene has definitely changed as I see a lot of people, especially the younger ones, use dating apps such as Tinder, Hinge etc. to find a potential partner. There's definitely more emphasis around building a profile in those apps as people can easily be matched or rejected with a single swipe. Nowadays, even though I am single, I am still focused on achieving my dream of playing Division 1 soccer in 2024, despite experiencing some setbacks last month. I do experience feelings of loneliness from time to time but I also like to plan for some solo outings for myself as I have a list of places that I want to go to and also food places that I want to try as well. As a fellow Sydneysider, I hope you stay cool as it was definitely a scorcher when I went out to Eastwood today.

@@misscindy_diaries what you said to miss about OT are similar to the reasons I'm looking to leave IT - doing something meaningful, making an impact on people, being passionate, working in a practical environment and not just being at a computer. IT is a very good industry to be in especially these days. I have a very stable job, can WFH as much or as little as I like, career progression, good team and great pay ($63/hr). I may be crazy to leave but ultimately, it doesn't fill my cup or soul in any way and I am craving a more meaningful work, have the desire to help and connection with people (I'm also an introvert!).
