Great video! What’s a rough estimate someone might expect to pay to have a plumber install one of these?

We are not allowed to use ferncos underground in Washington, completely shielded couplings are required, which I think work best anyway

Could you leave the first valve in place and place a secondary valve to protect the basement unit. The primary valve would protect the entire home and the secondary valve protects the basement unit from the upper units.

Did you ever try put a piece of pipe on street side the ack water valve and fill with water to see if it will leak seep? I installed a lot back water valves, a service a bunch but a never done a water test. I am in Brazil now and I bought 2 back water valves and I did 3 different water test and all leaked .

Back Water valve also called Backflow in the US
@Kennymolotov
@Kennymolotov 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Aaron, same here, in the code book it calls it a back flow valve somewhere. But most plumbers prefer to call it backwater valve instead...not sure why.

I have a Duplex that has a basement. When it rains heavily I am getting sewage (toilet paper etc) coming up thru a flow drain. It can run out the gargae door so as not to flood the basement but I am at wits end as what to do. Plumbers tell me to call the sewer company but they say every thing is fine. what should i do.

Can someone link that clay pipe cutting tool? I've just used a grinder, but that thing looks nice.
@Kennymolotov

Taylor it’s called a snap cutter, we use it a lot on cast iron, and some plumbers don’t use it with clay. Just a heads up.

@@Kennymolotov if my main sewer line is 6”, I assume that I should install a 6” valve, correct? 6” valves seem hard to find
@Kennymolotov
@Kennymolotov 2 жыл бұрын
Yup John that’s correct. But where are you located? And is this a house you live in? In Toronto, unless you live in a building with many units, a 6” main is very rare. If your pipe is clay, it’s outside diameter is very large, but the inside diameter (the size of the actual hole) is 4” for example.
@johnkim1656
@johnkim1656 2 жыл бұрын
@@Kennymolotov its a 3 unit building in NJ. One big problem is that the roof rain gutters drains into the back of the building and flows to the front through the 6” PVC sewer line. The check valve is installed in the front of the building. So if the check valve is blocked, then any rainwater will flow up to the basement! I got 2 ft of water this week! You discussed this in your video but i haven’t thought of a good solution yet! One idea is to redirect all rain gutters to the front (lot of work!)
@Kennymolotov
@Kennymolotov 2 жыл бұрын
So two option from what I understand. 1) redirect all rain gutters like you suggested, or 2) like I tried to explain in the video, don’t protect the main line, only protect the plumbing fixtures in the basement. Because, even if you redirect the rain gutters, if the valve activates (without anyone being aware of it) and your neighbours upstairs still run their water, it all will end up in the basement anyways because the valve is shut! So instead by protecting the fixtures in the basement the basement pipes can fill up all they want and all the fixtures in the basement will be protected (in theory). I hope this makes sense. I assume an inspector here in Toronto would make you do both option to be honest. But please take this with a grain of salt and ask around. I’m not sure what the codes are in NJ, this is not intended to be advice but speculation.

Is there such thing as a permanently installed, switch activated, sewar auger? Like, as soon as you get a clog, just flip the switch and it cleans everything out. If not please feel free to invent it and make millions of dollars. Just give me one for free and we'll call it even Stephen. 😉
