When I first moved to sf many years ago an engineer told me about you - who would’ve thought I’d be watching your day in the life many years later! This guys a legend. Great video

It's okay that you do for 9-10hours of work for the hefty pay, huge stocks and generous perks you get. But do you have a life ? Do you have a family ? Do you spend time with them ?

It's just strange!! You know I'm currently a student who's preparing for his upcoming interviews. I knew that principal sde is like the top level position you can achieve as an engineer. But after watching all these day in a life video I thought nah being an SWE at a good company will be enough for me as life is also about doing things you like other than work as I'm also a guy who has multiple hobbies (working out, playing guitar and recently I was thinking of starting doing videography and basketball). I thought principal SDEs won't get time for that and they're those super busy people who only focus on work all day. But after watching your video and seeing you saying that working out is a big part of your routine and seeing you learning tattooing and playing piano I realised that it's all about being focused and dedicated instead of saying that it's not for me. Thanks for this video. One of the most needed videos for me.

thought the same thing when I found out a principal engineer spends < 20% coding on the job. I think this guy's mostly trying to self promote himself. Too bad he doesn't get laid.

Everything seems scary before you understand it. Complexity can be broken down into pieces. I feel the same way when I watch surgery or a pilot sitting at the controls of a commercial jet. Seems extremely complex and scary, but I'm sure once you learn it, things fall into place and then it's a matter of practice and effort. Just get started!
