Sister what is the working hours for phd scholars in IISC... my supervisor from a state University is making me stay 9.30 am to 8 or 9 pm daily.... even if there is no work left for me... mentally and physically drain...

Hi James, This is really unfortunate, and I can imagine your situation. There are no fixed work timings at IISc and it varies from lab to lab. There are a few labs at IISc who are like yours while there are others which are more flexible. My answer to this is always to choose your mentors after good groundwork. Talk to past lab students and understand the working style of your advisor before joining them.

Well you have to endure the pain if you want to become a doctorate person... Myself I'm pursuing my phd in one of the national Institutes... My guide makes me to stay in the lab even if its 11 or 12am...be it on Monday or Sunday... At the end of the day when I see my progress of my work I really sacrifice everything just for that shear pleasure of finishing my work sooner gives me the boost in needed.. So phd is all about patience and progress my friend... All the best

Hi Abhijit! Depending on the expertise you develop during your PhD you can work in various groups in pharma RnD ranging from experimental labs to computational groups. Some examples include crystallisation, polymorph screening, analytical techniques, flow chemistry, development work for scale up, oncology oriented products, process analytical tools to observe reactions in real-time, Modelling groups for protein Modelling, drug-target interaction etc.
