I was a middle school math teacher, and after seeing how many kids have emotional problems, I am considering working on a school counseling degree, so it's helpful to see what that's like. I feel like i will help more by being a counselor... honestly trying to teach a class of middle schoolers is just babysitting most of the students and hoping a few kids learned something through the madness 😢

I'm studying school psych and I grew up in Bloomington. It's unlike any other part of Indiana and I'm so proud to be a Hoosier. If you ever need recommendations for restaurants or have a question about community resources (there are a lot), feel free to ask. Love the video! I feel like I'm really getting to know more about what the job actually looks like from state to state.

Hi Amanda! I find this video to be very helpful! I’m still not sure if I want to be a school psychologist but I feel like I would like it I’m kind of shy and I think I’m worried that I won’t do good but I do have a question, what would you recommend I go into when I try to pursue when I start my school psych journey?
@Amandaschoolpsych2 ай бұрын
@@katearserio2917 hey there! So sorry I some how didn’t see this until now. I love that you are considering school psychology! My recommendation for undergrad would be to major in psychology and take classes in different areas to see what really sticks out to you! You could also try taking courses in education or special education to see how you feel about it 🤗

Just coming across this video. I’m contemplating whether I want to get my masters in school psych. However I’m just scared that this career is very limiting being that it’s so specific. Do you have any advice or input ?
@Amandaschoolpsych2 ай бұрын
@@Shanellekyla88 hello! I feel this a lot at times! I have felt disappointed that our expertise and mental health qualifications can feel unappreciated outside of the school setting. In the state I currently live in, we aren’t really considered .. anything.. outside of school which breaks my heart. So if you aren’t called to the school setting it can be limiting to the school setting. However, those who are interested in researching or getting a doctorate can have more flexibility

Hi! I deciding on on being a school social worker, I'm a caseworker right now at n outreach and tracking program and work at a group home once a week as well. What would you say is the main difference between the school social worker and school psychologist? (I plan on working with younger grades)
@Amandaschoolpsych3 ай бұрын
Hey! So sorry I just am seeing this! It very much will depend on the state you practice in. In a lot of states social workers take on more of the counseling and crisis aspects, and then they also often are the experts on connecting families to resources in the community. Whereas a lot of states school psychologists work mostly in special education! So sometimes social workers will be the provider more for general education and school psychs more for special education students, evaluating for disabilities, and writing comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation reports. My preference is also to work in crisis and mental health’s support for general education along with special education. I’ll have to dive deeper into this in a video sometime but that’s my short generalized response (:

Hello, my name is Andon, I want to be a school psychologist when I grow up and I am wondering if you would have time to coach a sport because it is my dream to be a school psychologist/wrestling coach?
@Swirlzberry Жыл бұрын
I would believe so. As many school sports are after school hours, you most likely will be able to since you’d interact with your students during the school day. Then after school you can teach wrestling at the school
