A day in the life of an ESO | Medic in the Mines | Australian Paramedical College

In this video an Emergency Services Officer (ESO) from Billabong Gold Mine discusses what a typical day is like when you're a Medic in the mines.
Nathan and the medical team are responsible for medical care for 300-400 personnel on site. Their mine site includes a Medical Centre, 2 Ambulances and other response vehicles.
For Nathan, no two days are the same. He typically works 12 hour shifts and deals with injury management, drug and alcohol testing, temperature checks and more. Some days also involve dealing with major traumas and vehicle accidents.
An ESO is a popular career path for those who want to help people and provide medical care. It is an alternative to becoming a Paramedic as both jobs have similar technical skill sets.
Nathan completed a Cert III in Mines Rescue and then went on to complete the HLT51015 - Diploma of Paramedical Science at Australian Paramedical College.
