Real talk though, open source mostly forces asynchronous code reviews, making it take longer to accept code and thus merge conflicts might appear more often as the code evolves in a state a pull request might not have been built for. Is this just the inherent trade-off for more people to be able to work on it? Or do pull requests really do get often accepted as soon as possible (because I doubt it). Also, who maintains the automated tests to build upon the test suite for every feature that gets added? Do the people who contribute often write their own functionality tests that would get merged in as well? It just seems too easy for an open source project to become unorganized and full of long integration phases and code freezes.
