Day in the life of an Oxford student. 1. I go to the library. 2. I eat my lunch 3. I go to the library 4. I eat my tea/dinner. 5 I go to the library. I've been an Oxford resident for a while now. I used to be impressed with the academics. But having met so many, a lot of them are really boring people with no life or friends.
@anarkey29567 жыл бұрын
It's a good question. I'm not 100% sure I know the answer but I think alot of them are doing 'higher' honours. One of my housemates is doing a maths PhD and another a Masters, so I could probably find out. I think a large part is they have to do research and dissertations as opposed to traditional lectures, I know the science students do a lot of experiments and write papers and (try) to get published. So I'm guessing it's a level above the traditional university experience. Oxford is a v beautiful city that is worth a visit if you ever get the opportunity.
@patrickwalsh68737 жыл бұрын
It's 20+ years ago now, but in my (History) time at Oxford, there were very, very few compulsory lectures. There were courses of lectures delivered, but they were optional. There were seminars too, and possibly more now than in my time. Generally though, you're on your own and it's assumed you are adult about your commitment. You meet your tutor once a week for about an hour, you are assigned a topic and a reading list as long as your arm. You go back to your tutor, read aloud your 2,000 words or whatever, and defend your thesis. If you can. Every week for eight weeks. That is the essence of the Oxford system - the weekly tutorial. Pressure of time, pressure of managing the work, pressure of performing to a high standard, pressure of realising that you're actually only quite average and in the company of some seriously bright people. I spent all my contact time there one-on-one, and as he says in the video, you're frequently dealing with people who are on your reading lists. The terms are short, at only eight weeks and you need to get an awful lot of the ground work done in the vacation, to do things right. I wish everyone could experience it.
@patrickwalsh68737 жыл бұрын
Hey there ! Well, I think some courses are four, but History BA is three years. Three years was plenty for me, and I was glad to move onto paid employment ! Oxford is insanely expensive. But yeah, there were always fabulous lectures and seminars on the menu and I went to a lot of them, often on topics that were totally unrelated to my studies. It was really a privilege. Good luck with all your studies !

Iam from India.. I loved this video and your life style at Oxford.. Library,books Wow it's actually a heaven. Brother my fear is affordability. Iam not that rich. Is there any scholarship available at Oxford for Indians?
@safrenrecords6 жыл бұрын
Deepak Rajeev unfortunately no there isn't any academic scholarships for minorities at Oxford such as most upscale private institutions in the states like Yale/Harvard/Stanford/Georgetown/MIT but even so to qualify for scholarships at those schools you would still need to be a citizen

Would you please make a video on how much did it cost studying at oxford for 4 years( including tution fees, food living cost) ?
@tommyk12105 жыл бұрын
Tuition fees depend on the course, and your country of origin, check out the fees page for the course you’re interested in. Living costs Oxford recommences £1000pcm so £48,000 in total.
@swand13835 жыл бұрын
Tom Kent where on earth did you get £48,000 from? It doesn’t cost £1000 per month unless you’re awful with money and tuition is the same for every course
@tommyk12105 жыл бұрын
swan D those figures are from the university itself and from my experience of living here for 3 years are pretty accurate. www.ox.ac.uk/students/fees-funding/living-costs?wssl=1
@tommyk12105 жыл бұрын
swan D Additionally, tuition is not the same for every course if you’re non U.K./EU

personally, I think you are completely incredibly wonderful! Congratulations on the PPE. Thank you for the work on the Journal; how do I subscribe? Given Brexit, will you be (should you be so inclined) to continue your education at Oxford in 2019/2020? You wowed me. Thank you for that.
