I can't believe that anybody on here is criticising this guy's accent. He's not even studying languages here! I think he does a great job. I Wonder how many of his critics speak fluent, accent-free German. How many people on here would understand a broad Yorkshire or Scouse accent? Language is about communication. Has the guy communicated? Yes. Job done.

Day in the life of an Oxford student. 1. I go to the library. 2. I eat my lunch 3. I go to the library 4. I eat my tea/dinner. 5 I go to the library. I've been an Oxford resident for a while now. I used to be impressed with the academics. But having met so many, a lot of them are really boring people with no life or friends.
@anarkey2956
@anarkey2956 6 жыл бұрын
It's a good question. I'm not 100% sure I know the answer but I think alot of them are doing 'higher' honours. One of my housemates is doing a maths PhD and another a Masters, so I could probably find out. I think a large part is they have to do research and dissertations as opposed to traditional lectures, I know the science students do a lot of experiments and write papers and (try) to get published. So I'm guessing it's a level above the traditional university experience. Oxford is a v beautiful city that is worth a visit if you ever get the opportunity.
@patrickwalsh6873
@patrickwalsh6873 6 жыл бұрын
It's 20+ years ago now, but in my (History) time at Oxford, there were very, very few compulsory lectures. There were courses of lectures delivered, but they were optional. There were seminars too, and possibly more now than in my time. Generally though, you're on your own and it's assumed you are adult about your commitment. You meet your tutor once a week for about an hour, you are assigned a topic and a reading list as long as your arm. You go back to your tutor, read aloud your 2,000 words or whatever, and defend your thesis. If you can. Every week for eight weeks. That is the essence of the Oxford system - the weekly tutorial. Pressure of time, pressure of managing the work, pressure of performing to a high standard, pressure of realising that you're actually only quite average and in the company of some seriously bright people. I spent all my contact time there one-on-one, and as he says in the video, you're frequently dealing with people who are on your reading lists. The terms are short, at only eight weeks and you need to get an awful lot of the ground work done in the vacation, to do things right. I wish everyone could experience it.

@patrickwalsh6873 6 жыл бұрын
Hey there ! Well, I think some courses are four, but History BA is three years. Three years was plenty for me, and I was glad to move onto paid employment ! Oxford is insanely expensive. But yeah, there were always fabulous lectures and seminars on the menu and I went to a lot of them, often on topics that were totally unrelated to my studies. It was really a privilege. Good luck with all your studies !

Tuition fees depend on the course, and your country of origin, check out the fees page for the course you’re interested in. Living costs Oxford recommences £1000pcm so £48,000 in total.

My usual day as a student: - Wake up from the alarm around 8 AM. - Decide the lectures today are not that important and you can recap them later. - Sleep again. - Wake up around 12. - Breakfast & coffee. - PUBG/Overwatch until 17:00 - 18:00. - Think about the lectures missed, but decide there's no need to recap them. - Eat something. - PUBG/Overwatch until 21:00. - Beers in living room with mates that have been doing the exact same thing all day. - Watch 4-5 episodes of something I've already watched twice.

My American sister was attending University College at Oxford and my mom was over there visiting her, and while out for a walk one day she was approached by another American who was wondering on the grounds of which of Oxford's numerous colleges they were both currently standing. She asked my mom "Do you know which college this is?," to which my mom replied "University." Obviously irritated, the woman shot back with "Okay, do you know which UNIVERSITY this is?"

I visited a lot of UK universities when I was picking my university and have to say I was not impressed with oxbridge. It's a weird place where people seemed to be a bit pompous. After visiting the universities my top 5 are, Manchester, Warwick, Edinburgh, Lancaster and Durham for the UK. This is obviously just opinion but if anyone is applying to UK uni's I'd probably visit these ones. I ended up picking Manchester as it was my favorite overall.

I live in the USA and I’ve always felt a connection to Europe as a whole but especially England. It is my dream to attend Oxford in three years and move to England. I want to study history and archeology which i believe is the reason I have always felt a connection to Europe. I hope in three years I can attend Oxford and show that a kid from a small town in the US can make it to England and go to Oxford. Seeing someone who is from Germany make it to Oxford makes me believe I can do it as well.

Hi. I am 16 years of age, and ever since I was 14, I hold in my mind the beautiful prospect of getting to Oxford University. But, we are not financially stable to support my love for academia as of now. So I decided that I'll try applying for a post-graduate degree in the future (when I've saved enough to fund my studies). My question is, if I am to apply for a post-grad degree, which of my academic grades will Oxford look for? Will it be my grades in high school, or in my undergraduate grades? Most of my grades are As and B+s in junior high school. I'm planning to be a straight A student. I know that I'll be having hard time if they will base on my hs grades. I'm overthinking.
