luticia yeah, I don't understand how you can be a "full-time student" (putting that in quotes because two hours worth of class every day is absolutely ridiculous) and only spend that little time in class. Where I'm from college classes start anywhere from 8 to 9 am and if you're doing a full time course you'll be in college until 5 at least (some classes will run until 8 pm but on those days you don't usually start until 11 or 12).
@luticia8 жыл бұрын
Amelie Roll Same here. Exactly the same. At least if you study something "serious". But there are also courses e.g. sociology *lool* that are more like a hobby which you do besides to something major in your life. *lool* In this case, you've got to go to university only twice a week and only for some couples of hours. This is such a joke. My sis studied that. She passed EVEN with major psychic problems, spending the whole days in bed and doing nothing besides opening a book the evening right before the exam. My studies were like yours. Daily, mostly 8 am to 6 and sometimes like yours also till 8 pm. But this is sick,too, because you night isn't over. There's still some work for uni that you've got to do.

THE NBHD I hear Ivy admissions is extremely random as in they don't pick people based on having good grades AND volunteering. They reject so many amazing people. I think they might look at one factor that they want everyone to have in common with each incoming class or something? They need some selective thing to pick a few thousand out of tens of thousands, and it's hard when everyone is just as equally amazing and skilled.

I literally cannot believe the number of people freaking out about how expensive the Ivy League is. People: Unless your parents are millionaires, YOU DO NOT PAY ANYTHING EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO THE STICKER PRICE. The people who have money do, and they subsidize the people who don't. (Not to mention, these universities have endowments equal to the annual GDP of many small countries, and that fills in the gaps.) If your parents have legitimately middle-class incomes, it's almost always a free ride, or close to it. European universities might be cheaper on paper...but in reality, for people without trust funds, they're just not. At all. (Also, if you're so hung up on the cost, these graduates make more money over their lifetimes than European or state school grads, so it's even better bargain than a straight tuition comparison would suggest. But money isn't everything. If you're going for the best education for your money, point blank, this would be it. And no, I didn't go to an Ivy League school. I'm just not stupid enough to look at the listed tuition and assume "OMG that must be what everyone pays!!!1!1")

For me, the issue isn't that she is majoring in history, it's that I find it weird that somebody would choose to pay $200,000 to end up with a history degree. I don't know which state she's from, but if she were from a place like Wisconsin, North Carolina or Texas, she could get the exactly same thing for around $40,000. Yale is the place to go for a graduate degree since lots of companies and law firms will only hire students who possess JDs and MBAs from a top 15 grad school.

I get that it's an Ivy League university, with great quality of studies and all. However, it's ridiculous the amount of money that they have to pay. Not only in this one, but in general, in all their good universities. In my opinion, good education should be free for all people to attend, or at least affordable, without having to take loans to pay for it. I was a big fan of the "college" tradition, growing up, maybe because I had watched all those films. At the end, though, I feel I was lucky that I was born in a European country. Great universities with less money.
