FMS released the FCX10 a couple weeks ago. Mine got sent around the world twice before I could do the review on it. After much fiddling, I'm not sure I can recommend this truck, but I'll let you watch my review, and then decide if this is a truck destined for your collection.

This seems ilke a great truck. Sure it may take some tinkering to keep it all working, but it's called a hooby for a reason! The fact that all these features are offered is impressive.

It is bizarro day when SBG is super critical (not a bad thing, one should be critical and honest) of the FCX10 and Crawler Canyon actually likes this RTR lol

It surprised me as well. I watched the Crawler Canyon one last night, and this one in the morning. Surprised that this video was so critical, considering the rave reviews for the Redcat Ascent, which seems less capable, and almost everything on the Ascent is just weird or wrong - and it needs several hundred Dollars of upgrades to make it anywhere close to half decent. Like, I'm fairly certain the link geometry on this is way more correct than on the Ascent, it the shocks look way better as well. I think they come at it from different perspectives though. It's not like Crawler Canyon is going to take the FCX10 out on a trail run. The FCX10 did quite well as a pure crawler, and it will be interesting to see what can be done to make it even more capable as a rock crawler. It will also be interesting to see what the after market will make for the FCX10. I quite want one. It's fairly cheap, especially considering it has stuff like locking and unlocking diffs and dig, straight out of the box. A light kit isn't particularly important to me, but the one in the FCX10 seems pretty full featured, and won't set you back another 110 bucks, like it would with a TRX4.

I know which one I trust. It’s the one that knows the Ascent is garbage.

If a shifted gear does not get the correct input from the servo, which here is probably damaged, then of course the gears will slip. The more functions, the more failures can be. For this part he is wright that there is a higher chance to get disappointed in the drive. But failure of a component can always be, even on a 2 channel rig or any other things. The not perfect scale looks he mentioned is for this channel a must to bring it up, but if this is a licensed truck, then Chevrolet probably seen it and gave a yes on it, so it should be a Chevrolet thing. For me, both sbg and crawler canyon did a a good review on the truck. Both of them are correct. Never go for only one review, cause there can be different cercomstances and uses happening. Btw. didn't the gear slip start after being in the water 🧐

Shame you had issues with yours. Only issue I noticed with mine was the slipper is too loose, otherwise its performed really well. I've mudded mine, rock crawled, ran it at the beach etc and all good. Ran it yesterday with my trusty brushless TRX4 and it did very well. Hopefully with time FMS will just keep getting better and better. Personally I think it's great other companies are giving the big boys a run for their money, as let's be honest, most are overpriced. 👍

I’m not really a fan of extra electronics in general, but 2 speed transmission and locking diffs i think is really good. Unlocking the diffs really helps to save on drivetrain wear and improve the turning circle. Makes the driving smoother when not crawling.

I'm rooting for FMS. 🥳 For them and for everyone buying one, I do hope yours is the only rotten apple. 😁 I love all those "bells and whistles" so much I'd buy one if I hadn't a trail truck already. (mine, of course, has a 2 speed trans and lockable diffs 🤩). I think they're profiting less than other big brands and I value that (of course it's also a way for them to win some market). Like you said Matt, competition is welcome and benefits the hobby. I think FMS has already conquered their place. I do wish they had "dressed" their rig more at their on style. Let's see where they'll go from here. I do hope they succeed, specially if they keep their prices. Greetings for both! :)

Here in Canada the FMS sells for 550$ and the TRX sells for 850$. So a 300$ difference for something that has lights and dig is a significant margin. I don't know why traxxas products have to be so much more expensive than other brands here in Canada. Redcat and arrma products are also significantly cheaper due to the traxxas pricing.
@philippegauvin4127
@philippegauvin4127 3 ай бұрын
Traxxas is just a huge price gouge here. There's no point in buying such overpriced toy grade cars and yet so many people own traxxas. Maybe its the way the average rc hobbyist that buys traxxas drives them but they're always broken non-functional cars that they spent so much money on just to eventually keep breaking. I see so many people mess with these beat up cars either its burnt esc (on stock gearing and motor??), seized bearings, etc. Upsetting to see.

This rig is so much more enjoyable than any of the TRX's, trust. I have two TRX4's and a TRX6. The other drive option on this is exchanging dig for RWD, not FWD, lol! The body is actually so easy to get off. It's just a new design with a learning curve. I much prefer it. It really is so easy and solid when attached. No rattling at all. It's fully four-linked with SOA. That's a win. The driveshafts are counter-rotating, no torque twist. The electronics are so damn good, it is the first rig I'm not even considering changing electronics besides a servo when the time comes. It's a brushed rig that runs damn near like a Fusion, and quietly smooth if you grease it up, no bs. The shocks even feel better and smoother than a TRX, and they're 100mm. It also has a drag brake knob on the transmitter to adjust on the fly. You can change the lighting with a jst Y harness to rid of the blinkers and just have marker lights and running lights with the markers. This rig just outright destroys my TRX rigs out of the box compared to when they were stock, as well. And at a much cheaper price. I'll never buy another TRX rig. I have a new favorite trail rig for sure. The next ones from this platform will be amazing, as well, LC80, K10. Just wait n see. I'm telling y'all, don't sleep on this platform. And I have A LOT of 'em. Just saying. Great video, tho, and I respect people's opinions. Just spend some more time with it...

@scalebuildersguild awesome, my friend. I think you'll end up liking it a bit. Haven't had any issues with mine so far, and we are rough in our mountainous area 🤞 I definitely had to invest in the lock differential protectors for our terrain, tho. They're nice and beefy brass parts to cover them. The upgrade driveshafts are also really heavy.

Unlocking diffs is necessary when you have that much speed. I enjoy that much speed when on the trails when you want to goof around between obstacles. 2 speed is a lot of fun, and dig is very handy, so yeah....all the stuff is great on the trails. It does have a ton in common, and you can say copied from, the TRX4. I think there are a lot of improvements and value adds that you get with the FMS though, as long as durability is good. Whenever the unlocking diffs are mentioned, it's almost immediately a "copy of a TRX4". I'm just curious if there are ANY unlocking diffs out there that don't work like the TRX4. Maybe there's no other way to do it? I'd like to see another design.

I tend to like all the gimmicky crap., so all the extra functions are fun for me. Im with you on the wonky details of the body. I dont hate it, but they could have done better. I love it. Period. Replace the steering servo. Lots of functions for a lot less money. Micro servos are not under stress, being on/off only, so that's not a stress/fail point issue. Granted, if they end up failing, replacement is cheap but trim tweaking could be challenging. It's all part of the hobby. For the price of extra bodies you can make it a pickup or a blazer for cheap. The bottom line is that this is a great bang for your buck vehicle.

Only locking when absolutely needed - like a real 4x4.. I don’t care for the DIG though.. I’d like RWD/4WD option instead as pr. real life car.. It should help turning radius and off course drifting 😎..

I think it looks great. That is my favorite color even. I think it's a great deal for the features it has. I'll trade anyone a nearly new TRX6 G63 for one straight up right now. I like the extra features. I don't worry about the added complexity. I'm not depending on it to get me home. The reason they don't use straight axles and leaf springs for scale realism is because they suck in RC cars just like real ones. You gotta have giant tires for any true ground clearance. I am not the target audience for this channel though. I hate scale realism when it sacrifices performance. I want the best toy possible. Make it look like the trucks i drew and imagined as I kid if that makes it crawl and trail better. To fast?? Double that speed would be better. Again, toy. I want stupid toy fast speeds. Luckily they build them both ways. If this isn't for you that's fine. I appreciate FMS trying and putting out more than different bodies on really old platforms and BOLD NEW COLORS like some other companies with more x's in their name than any non adult novelty or content provider in history.

I think the idea of a 2 speed trans is great but could do without unlocking the diffs. I dont believe those servos will last because neither do the Traxxas. Does everybody know that the hounddog can run? In all seriousness, even though it's cheaper than a TRX-4 or a SCX10. I usually expect a product to function properly as designed out of the box and last more than the first day out.

Here's my take on it... I know you had a bunch of issues with yours, which undoubtedly sucks.However, it's a first run, so I would expect some issues. Hopefully, somebody from FMS reaches out to you and helps you either get this resolved or send you another truck. They should, as this one was a bit of a lemon. As far as the features go, I myself dig them (no pun intended!), and I think most people will too.

Ilike the complexity, in my trx4 i use all the functions and i use it as a speed car with 4s lipo also. I like all the functions from the FMS i would use all these functions in crawling trailing or speeding. I never liked the simple single speed transmission trail trucks. From the first time i saw the TRX4 with all these functions, lockincked and unlocked diffs, 4wd and awd and the portal axles, instantly i loved it and i said to my self i want it as it is. I would use the dig function just to do burnouts with the front wheels and in crawling situation and i would put a 4000 kv motor with 4s lipo to do speed runs and i would use the dig function to do drifting for example. I don't use my trx4 for crawling only and the same usage i would do with the FMS. Of course single speed trail trucks are not useless but i want to do everything i can do with these trucks and this extra complexity gives me extra fun at least for me.

I absolutely love my High Trail Ranger but paid more for it up front and have that amount again into upgrades. So far I'm really enjoying my FCX10 and figure I can fix and upgrade quite a bit before I get close to how much I've spent on the Traxxas. And I'm also a fan of more competition.

I think over criticism was applied. I recall when traxxas had their release, it was in the middle of the pandemic. It was hard to get, and the price was higher than it is now - so I wound up buying the sport. I think this makes an opportunity for those that wanted one but their ship had sailed..

i think your feedback is justified, an over complicated rig is never a good thing unless youre a hardcore enthusiast who is very meticulous and likes functions and details but not everyone is that and seeing what people put their crawlers and trialtrucks through these days i doubt its a good idea to implement to many things that can easily fail or get out of balance from some spirited use, its definitely a cool rig none the less but theres just to many points that can break.

I think it's great to have so many options, not that I want so many options for most of my rigs. That being said, I am sure there is the perfect application for this chassis. Big miss thought from them, front wheel drive? Should have been rear wheel drive if either were offered. And to do ALL of them for significantly less than Traxxas and Arrma.

I just ordered one (before watching your video) and it has not arrived yet. As you know it's probably an issue with adjusting the cables/servos. I think it would have been better if you had turned the truck upside down and pulled on the levers on the diff as you actuated the lock function. That way you could have shown any newbie (or not mechanically inclined) viewers how to deal with something like that out on the trail. That may have solved the open diff issue and allow to get home with locked diffs. Still FMS should keep an eye out on quality control beforehand. Also seen some videos where the clutch wasn't adjusted correctly.

My FMS FCX18 was amazing value but sounds similar to this. Decent design, good features, good value - but finnicky parts or set up. I blew a rear pinion gear 20 minutes into the first run on my LC80. I'd reckon that this model will have some very common failure points that once remedied will make it a great truck eventually. I'm most upset that the wheel base and width of it make it completely incompatible with other bodies and parts though.

All the bells and whistles are nice, but dig really isn't needed on a trail truck like that. Locking diffs though, those can be good to have and use. The scale might be slightly off, the mirrors might be very wrong, and it might be a clone-ish of something else, but it's also a really good way for more people to get into the hobby (I think). for 399 you get everything that a much more expensive rig has and you can enjoy all the cool stuff that the bigger custom crawlers have. I wanted to build a VS4-10 Phoenix forever but didn't have the confidence with how complicated everything was, but this gives something that's easier to start from. It's not for everyone, but I'm really REALLY enjoying it so far. It's fun to drive, it looks good, and FMS has been killing it the last couple of years (looking at multiple FCX24 builds...). This was also their first swing at doing something like this, so they can only get better from here. I'm going to choose to be optimistic while I still go get a 4WS Capra for my RPCR build :P

"How many servos does our 1/10 entry need?" "All the servos." For myself simple is better but to each their own. If they invested that much time into a new chassis design it would have been nice to see them have their own take on it, that's how designs can bring innovation to the table.

It seems to be falling into Cadillac territory, but like you said.. some people like that sort of thing. If you're all about crawlers, then this is probably really awesome to some. That high speed gear might be for mud slinging? I only have a couple basic crawlers (1 currently running), but I don't need all those doo-dads and dip switches either. Just a winch that works for those tough spots.

I just had mine out for a good amount of time for the first time I’m impressed for the price it needs new tires & metal beadlocks which are coming & Injora just came out with metal axles so got those also. I’m wondering if cutting the top & making it a convertible with removable rear shell would help it look better but I must say when you get it it’s not bad at all I’ve already did the mod of cutting the rear body tabs at the second line so only the front locks & the rear is held almost entirely by the magnets also for a big truck it’s not very quick to tip over & that’s stock can’t wait for my parts to come for it. Glad ya got it it’s definitely one of the top trail trucks regardless of price.
