For the next place how about Nakano at night, the area to the right of Sunshine dori has a ton of little winding streets and alleys with restaurants and people hanging out. Some great camera stores here too. From Nakano it's a straight 15-minute walk along the railroad/residential area (station to station that is) to Koenji which is also a great little place ! .Either that or maybe Kichijoji ?

Loved the intro :D This is something I like about Tokyo, people just walking not giving a crap about somebody taking photos (in general). Where in here, in my city, when I am standing somewhere and shooting, they tend to either bypass me or just wait until I finish so they don't accidentally walk into my scene.

Loved this video! It's so refreshing to see someone so humble walk us through the entirety of their process. Not only highlighting the great shots but all the things that made it difficult as well. It's really inspiring for us newer photographers to see what you do and the lengths you have to go through in order to do it. Fantastic photos as always, Ulysses. Keep it up and don't be so hard on yourself, just like you've taught me not to be.

Hey Ulysses, love the grind. Even though, you could have give up, you still make the video! Let me know if you want some help for the video (to film you). That my help to not look like a freak haha. I tried several times to do some vlogs but I found it very distracting to have to change hat from photography to video... And every time I'm filming, I can see all the shots I'm missing (because I'm filming) 😅 So, I always ends up setting up my DJI OSMO Action to do some boring POV street photography videos... By the way, my favorite pics from the video: 4:00, 7:00 and 9:00

I can imagine this can be really hard to concentrate at the process of taking pictures and at the same time recording a video this way on your own. I find difficult to do a street photography when i'm somehow distracted. So hats down to you Ulysses and thank you for sharing your process with us.

Baldur, nailed it with this comment. The process of candid photography alone is quite a challenge, filming a vid this way is quite impossible. So I'm really thankful for your support man thank you!

Cool video, really loved the last sequence of photos, that hard warm light is so good, and I have a thing for yellow-orange backgrounds. I want to go back to Tokyo so bad, I went there only for a week but I fell in love with the place, also we share the same kind of hot and humid weather in summer in Barcelona.

I loved the one at 9:10. The shadow of a man (you, obviously) taking a picture of a woman standing at a distance, looking down. Everything bathing in evening (even though in reality it's earlier) honey-lemon sunlight bursting through the black. Longing, wistfulness. As for where to go next, my personal favorite is Inokashira Koen in Kichijoji and also the residential blocks around it, in the direction of Mitaka station. It's insanely beautiful on a sunny day closer to the evening.

BBbbaaannggerrzz *airhorns* I liked you showed the struggle too. This isn't always a wonderful time here. Sometimes it's a slog but we make the best of it. You made the best of it. Next go to Yokohama. I went there a couple years ago just for a night cause of that massive hong kong themed arcade building. But never actually had the time to do street photography in the city proper. Always wish I had more time. Would be cool to see what you think of it.

great photos, i do wonder the photos in the 3:30 section about how much editing you do to get the pure blacks or just try to get it in camera ? very cool (not sure) editing choice showing the images almost sounds like turning a page in a photo book at least to me and just a creative idea when most (and myself) would use a shutter sound :) also feels scary to put the vlog camera to the side to shoot long time laps - I suppose it really depends on location, which place is safer than others
@UlyssesAokiPhoto
@UlyssesAokiPhoto 4 жыл бұрын
actually I didn't edit too much. The harsh summer daylight in Tokyo does it. Expose for the highlights, and that's pretty much it. I personally don't like crushing the blacks, it's an easy ticket to a photograph that "seems good". But was inevitable for this video...

You forgot to mention the best part about Shibuya: the smell! 🤣 Seriously though, you captured well the feeling of what it's like to spend time shooting in Shibuya. As for next locations, Shinjuku, Roppongi, and Ginza would be some of the obvious choices (though didn't you do a video in Ginza already a while back?) I prefer areas like Marunouchi and Ueno, and maybe other viewers would appreciate seeing one of the less well-known neighborhoods. Hit me up if you need a second shooter! ✌️
